I had a floor-length dress shortened. I was pleased with how quickly and well it was done.

I had been going to this dry cleaner for awhile. However they recently changed ownership; they lost a pair of pants I dropped off with them, which was disappointing. read more

This is an excellent shop. The people are thorough and take great pride in their work. Elaine may be the best seamstress in the City. If you are designing a piece, she goes beyond and can see the "engineering" and aesthetic problems before you do. It's wonderful to still have shops that take pride in their work. Elaine is a superb artist. -Eva read more

New owners are problematic. So much so that after 20 years I am no longer a customer.

Nice neighborhood machine wash. Good commercial washers: Large is $9 and regular is $6 a load. read more

Update March 07: Funny, George and I are friends and we differ in our opinion on this!! Oh, and look: the other FIVE STAR review is by questionmark heads with less than 10 reviews... Good luck trusting those, people... Update 8/26/06: My esthetician ALSO SAYS they "LOST" a $500 coat of hers about a year ago... wtf? Then, about a month ago, she saw the same jacket inside the laundrette from outside. Do they just make it a practice to 'lose/steal' clothing on a regular basis? What is going on? it's all very bizarre. Unless you're willing to part with your clothing on occasion, I would STEER CLEAR of this place for sure! Original Review: Me: Hi there, I'm here to pick up a few shirts.. Mean Clerk Lady (MCL): You have reciept? Me: I'm sorry,, no, but it's about 2 dozen shirts (and thinking to myself, we are also here ALL the time...)- I think I see them... MCL: No receipt? Me: I'm sorry, but It's under "S"... MCL: Oh, we don't have them. Me: We brought them in about a week and a half ago... I don't understand... MCL: We lost them! Me: Huh? Really? But we just brought them in... wait.. hold on... back there..... look.. it is THOSE shirts, right BEHIND you... can you check those? MCL: NOT YOURS! Me: Uh, I think they are... MCL: WE LOST THEM! Me: Please check.... I'm pretty sure those are ours. (At this point, I'm pretty upset) MCL huffs off and steps six feet away to check...... she says, S_____? Me: YES, that's our last name. MCL: NEXT TIME, BRING CLAIM CHECK! As if there will ever BE a "Next Time". DO NOT go here. They mark on your shirts with Sharpie (PERMANENTLY) and they do not understand WHY people get pissed off about this. If you ask them not to, they nod their heads and do it anyway. As if I need all of our clothes defaced while they launder them. No thanks. read more

I've been going to Kent Cleaners on 3rd/Balboa forever, but when I moved to 8th, I decided to try this place. My old roommate had taken some clothes there and liked it. They wrote on all my husband's dress shirts in Sharpie marker, the shirts were very limp and did not look pressed, and the hangers looked kind of rusty, although there was not actually rust on them. They only accept cash or check, and the woman seemed very put out that I came in to pick up my items. My husband was soo pissed that they wrote on all his shirts. This was maybe 8 months ago, and of course, the ink is permanent and has not come out. We're back at Kent. Even though they're pricey, they do an amazing job and are very professional. They even walk my items out to the car and hang them on the hook for me! read more

This is my go-to dry cleaning shop. The women that work there are so nice and they always handle my dry-cleaned clothing well. I've also gotten jeans and dresses hemmed here as well. Additionally I always end up leaving with some candy which is a huge plus. This is cheap, fast dry-cleaning! read more

I've gone here once based on the reviews I read and the fact that it's just around the corner from my apartment. I got all the clothes returned that I dropped off (nothing lost) and none had pen marks on them. I gave them a three though because I don't like how they only take cash or check. Places need to take credit cards these days, so I probably won't go back if I can find another good dry cleaners in my area that takes credit card. read more

Owner Elaine Lee is a cleaning genius. I have been going to her since I moved to San Francisco (and now I live on the opposite side of Golden Gate Park) it's well worth the extra trip for me. She has gotten butter, oil and balsamic vinegar stains out of my Prada nylon jacket every time it happens (no one else has ever been able to do that). My jeans come back as if they were brand new (I don't like tacky worn out clothes) so she keeps them from fading and wearing. She's also very adept at alterations. If you want to see her you have to go in the mornings or very late in the afternoon. read more

Love Love this place. Elaine is a fantastic seamstress and has an excellent eye for details. Everyone who works at the shop is sweet and wonderful. I use them for all my drycleaning, sheets and laundry. I always feel welcome. A neighborhood gem! read more

I don't understand Mia's review above- I've never had a problem with the Corner Laundrette and they've always been really nice to me. I used to get my dry cleaning done for free before I moved here at my aunt and uncle's dry cleaners (how I miss those days) - and even when I was getting stuff done for free I never tried to pick up anything without a claim check/ticket. You ALWAYS keep that and use it when you want to pick up your clothes. The only negative thing I can think of to say is that they aren't open really really early when I have to walk by on my way to the pre-dawn bus. But hey, that's another problem I have to face later. I recommend the CL. read more

I cannot say enough about Elaine and her staff! They even wait a few minutes for me to make it before closing up at 7:00 p.m. and know my order without a ticket if I forgot it. They're amazing. As with most places, I think you'd be more satisfied handling your whites at home, but for everything else the wash and fold is great. Dry cleaning and/or shirt wash and press is very reasonably priced and quick return if in by 10A. Elaine shortened the sleeves on some of my dress shirts, repaired a pair of suit pants and hemmed a Chuppah cloth for a wedding I was working on with a friend. The upstairs apartment next to her shop recently burned, but luckily didn't cause damage in the cleaners. It would be a shame to lose such a personable, neighborhood, family owned business like this! read more

The staff at Corner Launderette are great. I've waited once, and only once, for them to open in the morning for a drop off on my way downtown to work. The fact that they are open until 7pm is a huge bonus as well as I'm never home in time for pick ups. There's something to be said about a shop like this where they know their customers by name as well. Super friendly, fast service - what else could you ask for? read more

I've been bringing clothes here for years and they've always been super nice, have done a fine job, and their prices are good. I find it really hard to imagine them stealing people's stuff or treating customers like crap, as described in another review. read more

I don't like writing negative reviews but here it goes. With the number of laundry apps (Rinse, Washio, the list goes on) in SF, I thought it would be nice to support a local business for my laundry. Unfortunately, Corner Launderette makes it difficult for customers to support them in a way that is convenient. Be warned, they don't disclose that they are cash only until after you give them your business. When I came to pick up my laundry for the first time, she leaving me with no choice but to go to an ATM and pay 10% of the cost of doing my laundry for an ATM fee. Her attitude was matter of fact and her apology (only after I paid in cash and expressed my disappointment) was hollow. There is no reason to be a cash only business with the technology available to small businesses today, unless you're running a shady tax evasion scheme. No thanks, I'll go elsewhere, bye Felicia. read more

This is a 100% reliable and top rate laundry. But what is even more awesome is Elaine's tailoring. She has the eye for Pret a Porte, and her alterations are PERFECT!!! She really has an eye for a good fit, and she always knows what is in style. I highly recommend trusting Elaine and her team with your finest clothing...she is a tops!!!! read more

Elaine is a genius of a seamstress!! My daughter came from Amsterdam with my 45 yr. old wedding dress so poorly altered that I thought we would have to buy a new one a week before the wedding. Elaine created a PERFECT garment that drew admiration from our guests. She is always responsive and delivers on time. Regarding the cleaning dimension. I have never had a problem claiming my items nor has anyone overcharged. I find this cleaning shop fine.. for alterations Elaine is the BEST. S.K. SAN FRancisco read more

When we first moved to SF we were used to doing our laundry every week in the basement of our loft's building. But time is money, so we decided to try laundry service. It actually doesn't cost us that much more than the coin-operated self-serve laundromats and BONUS! everything is neatly folded for us when we pick it up. Laundry, alterations, dry cleaning, they do it all and they do it fast. Same-day turnaround if you get your laundry in before 10 am. We have always had excellent service from the ladies at Corner Launderette. My husband and I have gotten to know the owner, Elaine, who routinely asks how my mom is doing. Elaine even altered my wedding dress! We can't imagine taking our laundry anywhere else. read more

Neighborhood gem. We've been gong to Elaine for over 20 years for dry cleaning, alterations, mending and pillow making. They are like extended family! Highly recommend. read more

This is my neighborhood shop, yo! Dry cleaning, hemming and everything. It's very reasonable and the people there are SO nice and totally remember your name! read more

I'm surprised by Mia's comments as I've always had excellent service here and find it hard to believe that they would steal anyone's clothing. Having come to Corner Launderette for years, my husband and I have established a great relationship with the owner Elaine who is always nice and friendly. As credit cards are not accepted, we're able to come back to pay our bill at a later time in the event we don't have enough cash or checkbook when we pick up our dry cleaning. Reasonable prices and great service from our neighborhood Corner Launderette! read more

Not happy. Cash only, not so nice, and very slow to return your clothing despite promises for it to be done on time.

I have been a customer for over 20 years and love the people here. They have done many alterations for our family over the years and Elaine has an eye for a good fit. They are reasonable and fair. Yes, she is cash only but I don't mind....I would rather deal with nice people like at the Corner Launderette than an impersonal chain. read more

My wife and I have been going to the Corner Launderette for more than 10 years without a problem. They take excellent care of our *all* our clothes (ranging from Gap khakis to Brioni suits). I should also say that I don't have a problem with the pen marks (my last name) on the manufacturer's tag sewn to the collar of my dress shirts. I mean, come on now, who looks on the inside of someone's collar!?!?! They are extremely honest and diligent. What is more, Elaine has a sharp mind that remembers everything. She can even tell me when we picked up a specific pair of black pants (that we couldn't find because they got migrated to the back of the closet). So, if you don't have a ticket and they don't have your stuff, then you probably didn't bring it to them. read more

Hi Y'all, Since moving to the city, and finding my building has no laundry room, I've tried a few coin ops but have found this place to be pretty cost effective. I may pay $5-10 more each time I do laundry, but it saves me hours, an arduous trip to the laundromat, and all the clothes are super dry and perfectly folded. They've been charging me 95 cents a pound. The ladies are super nice, but not always honest. One time they overcharged me more than $10. As a poor college student, that doesn't fly so well. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU WEIGH THE CLOTHES WHEN YOU DROP THEM OFF "TO ESTIMATE THE PRICE." AND WRITE THE WEIGHT DOWN ON YOUR TAG. YOU'LL BE SURPRISED HOW YOUR DAMP LAUNDRY SOMEHOW WEIGHS MORE WHEN DRIED AND FOLDED. If there is ever a question on the price when you pick-up. I recommend that you have them re-weigh the clothing. I really don't mean to be a jerk, but I don't like to be jerked around like this. Since having them weigh my clothes before hand. I've never had a problem. However... they absolutely ruined a beautiful microfleece blanket, it was so soft but they burned it in the dryer and now it's so rough! Bottom line: Weigh your laundry. These ladies are great for routine laundry, but don't give them anything that's precious or could be damaged in the dryer! read more
