He then went ahead and switched to English on purpose (to belittle me because he assumed I didn't speak English) he raised his voice so loud so that the ENTIRE PLACE could hear him in English, he put his hand in the air and pointed at the door and said "IF YOU DONT LIKE IT GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!" As a grown woman I have NEVER been yelled that loudly in my life! ( I genuinely feel bad for the women in that mans life, it was waaay to easy for him to default to scream at a women like that). And the short man who was cleaning laughed at me when this happened. Rude men work here!!! All the people in there paused and stared. It was beyond belittling and not a business I will EVER support again. I am part of many Lower Haight communities and have taken the time to tell everyone about this devastating situation this man/business put me in. AND ON WOMENS MONTH! But if you must, I recommend The Hayes Laundry or Fiesta Laundry, who has parking and charges you exactly the price to see displayed. Laundromat is CLEAN, all surfaces wiped down at least four times while we were doing multiple loads of laundry. All but the detergent dispenser with individual boxes of Tide and the like were quarters-only; the washers and dryers accept both coins and credit cards, convenient! It took a few times to swipe my card at the correct angle but I got it. Dryers were HOT so $0.25 for 5 minutes went far. All our clothes were dry in 25 minutes, maybe 30 for heavy towels and jeans. Free parking out back, easy to load up and drive off. Pressed for time? They offer wash & fold. I'll be back soon to do heavy items like my duvet and comforter where these machines do a better and faster job than the three sad machines in my building. I was doing laundry and the man that works there to clean out the lint out of the dryers was so rude to me and disrespectful I asked him not to clean it out in front of me or if he can just wait and he started cussing me out calling me names in Spanish he would not let me talk he was speaking over me and he called the manager before I got a chance to and said that there was a crazy lady screaming at him I was having a lot of allergic reaction to the lint dust and he had a mask on and was telling me to shut up he called me the b word multiple times I even left my dog's bed in the dryer because I was having so much anxiety needed to get out of there I don't think anybody should have to go through what I went through at this laundromat I'm sure I'm not the only person that he's been rude to and has done this in front of I give these people one star only I even called the manager and could get through to him. Oak Street Laundry is a letdown. The dryers barely work, even after multiple cycles, clothes are still damp. For the prices they charge, you'd expect the machines to actually do their job. I get that laundry in San Francisco can be frustrating, and this kind of service is essential, but the least they could do is ensure the equipment is maintained and functional. Put my stuff in the dryer this morning at Oak Street Laundry. Came back an hour later to find that at least half of my clothes were stolen, along with the laundry bag I carried them in (which was also in the dryer). Asked the attendants if they could call the manager so I could view the camera footage. The attendants informed me that the manager refused and I would need to file a police report. I have learned a valuable lesson about never leaving clothes at a laundromat unattended again. This particular site has a ton of homeless people hanging out just outside, and sometimes wandering in. The staff here seems to do absolutely nothing in terms of security. I hope they continue to lose business until they start taking people's property seriously. Will not be returning. read more

I came to Oak Street Laundry for the first time today and had a great experience. I purchased a $3 Money Card using the automated machine inside the laundromat by debit card and added value easily. On a Monday evening during shelter-in-place, the laundromat was clean and not at all packed. There was no attendant on duty but the machines were straightforward to figure out and use. I parked right in front of the laundromat and like other Yelpers mentioned--didn't pay for parking (though the numerous Tow-Away signs were a bit intimidating at first). I used two commercial Speed Queen washers to do three weeks' worth of laundry ($3.35 per load ~35mins) and then one Speed Queen commercial dryer ($0.35 per 7 min; you add time incrementally by inserting and then removing the card as far as I could tell/did). Usually I do laundry at work but since Shelter-in-Place happened I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was here at Oak Street Laundry! read more

My card was just charged 90$ for 6 machines. At $15 each. The machines varied from $10.20 to $3.75 to $7.00. This is insane! I cannot believe that this is happening. If my account hadn't prompted me about my account being overcharged I wouldn't have had a clue. In addition to this overcharging crap. Who do I call to resolve this? Update: this laundromat has now been completely updated with all new machines and flooring. You can pay for the new machines using an app on your phone, and the app tells you how much time is left on each machine and alerts you when they are finished -- how cool is that? Free and easy parking in the lot, and Jesus is back making sure everything is working, so all is right with the world. read more

Parking: the signs say you have to pay ABC Parking by phone but the owner/staff at the laundromat said it's fine, so we did not pay. Machines: they have large, "big load," commercial washers that are great for washing blankets and bed quilts. Much cheaper to wash yourself than to bring to a dry cleaner. Cleanliness: could be cleaner - the floor is pretty gross, but the machines were fine and clean. Seating while you wait: yes. There are 3 benches surrounding a table near the front of the laundromat where you can sit and wait for your laundry to finish. WiFi: yes! LAUNDROMAT is the name and laundromat in all lower caps is the password. At least when I was there today it was. You can pay for your laundry with cash, quarters or credit card, all to be put into a card that works in all of the machines. You have to buy a $3 card as a deposit, but as long as you return the card you will get your deposit back. I'm going to keep my card for now as I'm sure I'll be back, so hopefully I don't lose it! There are so many machines here that even though there are many out of order there are plenty of machines to go around. I've come here exclusively for the past 6 months, because they have the best driers here that have never burnt any of my delicate items (plush blankets and robes). Good prices and quality machines. I saw another review mention a couch which I never found - but they did have wooden benches with a TV and magazines. I was worried they would gouge on buying soap there but it was very reasonable. I'd give 5 stars except for their wifi their sign says "See Attendant" and it's hard to find the attendant- why not just write the password on the sign? (UPDATE - I did ask the attendant and they just said there was no password - it's open. Maybe that should be on the sign?) I enjoyed the arcade, except after I beat the high score it didn't let me write my initials...which is my whole reason for beating the high score. read more

Not all laundromats are created equal and I gotta say I got pretty lucky my first few years in San Francisco when I had laundry in my building/in unit washer dryer. This place though has been clean and I've never had any problems with my clothes after coming here. Prices vary a lot depending on the machine - I generally use the ones that open from the top and not from the front - cost about $3.20/ wash which is pretty fair and holds a decent size load. The dryers are also of good quality here- can't tell you the number of times I've used dryers where it doesn't actually dry clothes after the set amount of time. I use the ones near the back that cost $.35 for 7 minutes (so .05 a minute) - and I've found even sometimes with my normal loads I won't have to have to do a typical 45 -50 minutes of drying, I've gotten by on 35-42 minutes!! (Depends on load size) Also you need to get a money card to use the machines where (say goodbye to begging your local grocers for quarter rolls) - however those machines do only accept bills so come ready!! read more

And I don't like the idea of an add-value card itself (with a $5 minimum add-value interval) as you're guaranteed to leave having given money for unused services. Been to this laundromat many times over the years, never a complaint. It's clean, a lot of machines (though not all function all the time) and theres always a friendly attendant. The machines work well, you have your choice of old-fashioned top-loaders or fancier front-loaders or jumbo-sized front-loaders, though you pay for the upgrades. Plenty of carts for moving your laundry. They use a card system, so hang onto that card after you finish your laundry, it's reusable, but the card costs money to purchase/replace. Laundry takes about 30 minutes wash and the dryer can be set in 7 minute increments, however much you need, usually also about 30 minutes. A load works out to approx. $5 There is a little waiting area with a table, magazines, there are vending machines, ample trash/compost/recycling cans and a television that glitches out every 30 seconds. Its on Divis nearby lots of cafes and stuff if you want to pop in and out while your clothes are washed. I believe they also have a drop-off program if you want to let them do your dirty work. read more

I've had my share of traumatic laundromat experiences, but Oak Street Laundry, which appears to be formally known as Launderland, is the best laundromat I've ever been to. I walked in on a Saturday morning and was greeted by the attendant who promptly showed me how to load money onto a laundry card and broke some bills for me since the card machine only takes $1s and $5s. The card requires a $3 deposit which will be returned to you along with the balance of your card if you don't want to hold onto it for future trips. This place is huge so there were tons of empty machines and plenty of room to sit and hang out while you wait. (Or go get a coffee on Divisadero, there were 3 attendants working so I never felt my laundry was in danger of being stolen!) Free WiFi, pacman, and vending machines, and none of that depressing laundromat vibe. If you're anywhere in lower haight and willing to pay a little extra for a much more pleasant experience, Oak Street Laundry is well worth the trek. read more

One of the best laundromats I've used. It's a large space, clean, well lit, and maintained. They add new machines now and again. They quickly identify and fix the old ones that break. They respond to problems and questions quickly and respectfully (use their refund forms). The prices are better than in my building, so I come down the street to them instead. The machines only take their electronic card that you can buy one time for $3 and reload onsite through a machine using cash or credit cards with no extra fees. And they have free WiFi. read more

This really is "as good as it gets" - and I say that having laundry in my building. When my clothes are overtaking everything else, they get packed into the oversize duffel and get carted down here. Free parking, wi-fi, and a convenient location make for an easy laundry experience. No, it's likely not the cheapest around, but their front loaders hold more than one might think, and the dryers are tops. They have standard top loaders, front double, triple, quadruple and two monster machines at the south (Oak St) end of the place that you'll have to try to fill. Their machines don't require a ton of detergent either, and the place is clean, even though there's always folks doing laundry. Some might like to use quarters but the card system is simple, and can be loaded with your atm card if you don't have cash, and you can receive the balance and card's value back if needed. read more

PROS: - great attendants who are friendly and actually seem to care about customer service. - Love that you can load up the coin card and don't have to deal with tons of quarters - PARKING LOT! - Open great hours - Vintage arcade machine with all the greats - TV that's usually tuned to something fun to watch while doing laundry - good group of fellow laundry folks, no creepers or hobos or other questionable things - clean! - has bathroom - snack machine - and places to walk to CONS: - very minor con, but they are missing the size between single load and giant load machine. Wish they had a few double loads. As for the person who said laundry got stolen - that is a risk at any laundromat. I'd say anyone who leaves their clothes unattended at ANY laundromat in the city runs this risk. It's just urban living basics, but I would say given the fact the attendants actually take care of the facility it's probably less likely here than at other laundromats in the city. read more

Laundry is easily my least favorite chore and this mat makes it so manageable. Clean, reasonably priced, wi-fi, TV, couches, full-time on-the-floor attendant, and no quarters required. It's also located by many shops and restaurants, so if you feel trusting enough, which I do here, it's easy to pass time near by while tackling several loads at once. How does this place have such high reviews?? I came here because I wanted to do late night laundry, and my normal laundromat was closed. This place reeked of cigarettes and mold, and definitely felt seedy (I felt uncomfortable being here alone or leaving any of my things unattended). The whole place was just run down and dingy. There was parking which was the one plus, but I did not feel safe here and ended up sitting in my car and locking the doors waiting for my clothes to finish (when I normally like to pull out my laptop, read, etc in the laundromat). read more

Laundry is actually very painless and I am in and out in an hour! - Always machines available. - Always parking in the private parking lot in front. - Add money with a credit/debit to a laundry card. No need for quarters! - Clean and the attendant is always on the premise, friendly, and super helpful - Power dryers! I can dry all my clothes in 21 minutes. HANDS-DOWN....one of my absolute favorite laundrymats in the whole U.S. (and I couldn't be more serious). I'm an old Chicago-New York City punk rock gal and finding an affordable, comfortable, reliable laundry spot in a big city is a serious priority (kinda like finding a great deli or a great slice of pizza...but I digress). I'd had bad luck with a number of spots in SF before discovering this amazing oasis. The water is good and hot -- my clothes always come out clean and fresh and the dryers have great heat. The price is totally right for my budget -- and I seriously dig the laundry-cash cards for the machines instead of having to fuss with change. There's even a machine there where you can use your debit/credit card to directly deduct wash money into the laundry-cash card. And if you ever need to break a $20 or a $10 the owner and manager(s) in the office are always a great help. Other things I absolutely love about this place are the upbeat, friendly and helpful attitudes of the owner and manager(s), the cleanliness of the laundrymat, the multiple benches for seating, the ease of having a large parking lot connected to it and a gas station around the corner. Having a Wells Fargo ATM outside around the corner doesn't hurt either and it's not a far hike to grab some java at the cafe up the street or a quick sandwich. There's loads of machines -- in the 2 years I've gone there, I've never ever had to wait for machines -- and I'm a weekender who's usually there in pretty high traffic time. I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the fact that the owner has fun taste in the kind of video entertainment he provides on the wall mounted TV. I've had many a smile and giggle watching old episodes of Star Trek, The Monkees, Lost in Space and classic Soul Train performances. And of course, when the 49ers and Giants are playing the set is always tuned in (and they play plenty of other sports, as well). I know I'm not alone in saying how frackin' awesome it is to have things that distract one's tired mind from the tedious chore of doing weekend laundry, but this place makes it so much more enjoyable. I love how there's two entrances, too. There's something wonderful about having cross-ventilation and big glass windows with natural light instead of being closed into some kind of small, steamy, dark box of boredom. Tl;dr -- Awesome laundromat with great machines and you can pay with a pre-loaded card! Pros: - Takes credit card -- yes, you have to pay a deposit for a card that you can then load with $ from your credit card. However, they do 100% give that deposit back (and whatever $ is remaining on your card). I know this because I went up to one of the employees and asked for my deposit back after moving apartments recently. They checked the value left on the cards and gave me the exact amount back. They even used one of their bills to get change in quarters since they didn't have exact change with the bills they had in back. - Free wi-fi -- ask for the password :) - High quality washer/dryers -- the one time a dryer malfunctioned on me and my clothes didn't dry, I told an employee about the issue.
