The few times there were minor issues (missing button, a stain that needed extra care to clean , etc.), they would always let me know and they' took care of it. Went to this place based on the outstanding Yelp reviews and was extremely disappointed. Dropped off a moderately soiled light grey blazer with a small brown stain by the sleeve and a ring around the neck. At drop off, I was careful to note both stains and they were marked. Unfortunately it was all an act. Not only was neither stain removed, the blazer smells musty and is tinged light brown compared to a matching piece that I typically pair with the blazer. Instead of coming back clean, it seems my blazer came back dirtier than it started. Was hoping this would be a good value but lesson learned. I immediately pointed out the persistent sleeve stain at pickup and they asked if I wanted them to try again. The woman there implied it was a difficult to treat stain and not all stains could be removed with dry cleaning. Since I needed the item soon, I declined (but also I didn't have much faith in them after initial high hopes). For the record - I have no idea what the brown stain was but it came off easily with a tiny dab of water that I tried after declining to have the cleaners 'try again'. read more

I am quite disappointed with Soap Box. First time customer. Pros - efficient and great communication process - friendly - less expensive Cons - unpleasant scent - lacking quality of dry cleaning I was excited about this place with so many stellar reviews. Dropped off many of my expensive items. I felt that maybe their process may be more rigorous or whatever they use may have been pretty harsh on my items. Most of them are new items I had bought. Once very soft items came back now feeling like harshly treated with a certain scent that I am not enjoying. One dress ruined, color changed abs material itself damaged. Dry cleaning has always been good. Additionally, John always gives Fair and good advice on things, they might not specialize in cleaning, in the case of my satin drapes and wedding dress. I've gotten quotes of $25 a dress for example where as I've paid $30 for four pieces of clothing (2 dresses, a shirt and a sweater). Highly recommend. I used soapbox cleaners when I had to dry clean like 100 items and they were super simple to use and very efficient! I scheduled the pick up and they came on time and picked everything up. They put each item into their system and I could see it moving along in the dry cleaning process. Then they delivered all my items and each belt or loose piece connected to the jacket/item that it was supposed to go with. Nothing was lost at all and the whole thing was a breeze. I only had two minor issues with the service. For one silk blouse, I did receive it back with a tiny mark (maybe from the cleaning product?) I haven't tried to get it out yet but hopefully it comes out. Second, when they delivered me items they ended up coming an hour early without finding out if it was ok and I ended up having to rush down while I was in the middle of something to get the delivery. However, both these issues were not a huge deal and their reasonable prices, efficient system, and ease of their services more than make up for these. I would highly recommend them. read more

The washer and dryers in my apartment building take quarters and trying to search for quarters during COVID was making it very difficult. I had used a large competitor in the past, but was left very dissatisfied and I was desperate. I saw the amount of positive reviews and so, I sent in a request for pick up. Someone contacted me w/in a couple of hours. The process went rather smoothly. The pick up was easy to schedule and they returned my laundry within 2 days. I accidentally left a bottle of bleach with my laundry bag (because I was going to wash it at a laundromat), so they texted me to let me know that they had found it in my bag but that they would not be able to use it (totally understood) They used the card on file and the return process also went well. They are the less expensive option per pound that I've researched in my area and they are convenient and did a great job with my laundry. read more

It is run by a young couple who has brought some technical know how to the business by texting when your garments are ready and keeping a credit card on file for seamless pick up and drop off. They are the sweetest kids on the planet (I am old) and have endeavor to learn the names of one of their clients.I feel like I'm seeing a friend when I go pick up my laundry! Soap Box does a nice job on shirts and dry cleaning, they're not incredibly expensive and they're right near my house. But I won't use them any more. In my opinion, they don't seem to care about the health of their staff and customers. Masks are crucial for public health in a pandemic. As required by of businesses, Soap Box has a sign that says masks are required indoors. Not the large, official SFDPH sign. It's kind of hard to see, but it's a sign. But Soap Box ignores its own rules. One of the employees, a tall, lanky kid, wasn't wearing a mask over his nose. So I stood in the doorway and asked the nice, masked Taiwanese woman behind the counter to find my order. "Come in", she said. I told her I didn't feel comfortable with the tall, lanky, unmasked kid not covering his nose, and asked him to please do so. He pulled his mask over his nose, looking at me like I was made of cat feces. I asked if he worked there. Forgetting about the cat feces, he looked at me as though I were made of fermented pig feces and walked into the back. And I'll bet he pulled his mask down as soon as I left. I asked for the owner. The told me he doesn't come around much. Maybe Wednesdays around 1:00. I wonder if the tall, lanky, unmasked kid wears his mask properly when the owner is around. I wonder if the owner cares. COVID is just a hoax, an assault on our freedoms, right? Nobody gets sick, right? It's just like the flu, right? Why burden the employees? Well, to this customer, employee attitudes matter. I have one more item at Soap Box. When I collect it I will find another cleaners. If Soap Box doesn't bother to take care of my health, why would they bother to take care with my laundry? read more

After ignoring a pile of work laundry from pre Covid times, my girlfriends amazingly stained dress pushed us into action finding a local dry cleaner closer to home than work. Soap Box made no promises they could remove a combination of wine and asphalt from a red dress, and we had realistic expectations going into this attempt at a dress recuse, but boy did they overdeliver. I used Soap Box cleaners once or twice when I lived in the neighborhood and even though I've since moved and it had been a few years, I decided to use them again. I don't remember too much about the previous times but I assume it was good since I decided to return. I had to dry clean a couple of comforters. One of them was "dry clean only" but I decided to wash/dry it at home and it was not a good idea so it wasn't in the best shape. Soap Box Cleaners did a great job with both and they honestly look as good as new. I also appreciate their transparent pricing (all listed on their website) and efficient communication system (you can track the status of your items online and they text you when things are ready; they also had me in their system despite it being a few years based on my phone number so I didn't need to give them all the details again). Their prices are probably in the middle/average of what I've seen in SF ($40 for a comforter for example). I have found a few places for slightly less but they generally are a little less convenient (cash only or not as great as communicating or not being as thorough) and I have also seen places charge more, especially in SOMA and the Financial District. I also appreciate that they use a non-scented soap that doesn't make your stuff smell funny but still does a great job cleaning (you can bring them your own detergent if you prefer but I think what they use is perfectly fine). read more

This place used to really great, but it seems to have gone downhill since the pandemic. They've raised their price, which is fine, but the quality of service is now lacking. My first red flag should have been when they missed the pick up window I scheduled and then tried push it to the following day. I spent $144 for 2 large bags of laundry and one ikea sized plastic bag. My clothes looked like they were folded by a couple of different people because they were folded in different ways. I ended up refolding half of it. Also I had to go through and sort it. Pillow cases were mixed in with clothes 2 towels were together and then wash clothes were mixed in with clothes and napkins. I'm also pretty sure they didn't follow my instructions for cold wash and tumble dry for my linen sheets. It used to take 1-2 days day for turn around, but this time they picked up Weds and dropped of Sat. Maybe they are so busy now they can't be quick. Whatever's going on...this was definitely the last time I'll be using Soap Box. I just read about another place nearby that charges way less and is quicker. read more

Due to the 4 star reviews I brought in around 15 pounds of wash and fold to be cleaned. The cleaning was mediocre at best but that's not my complaint. Once I got home I realized that all my items were returned except for 2 very expensive supreme t-shirts. When I called to see if there was a mixup and that my t-shirts were missing, I was told the clothes were weighed and not counted and that I might be mistaken that they were in the batch in the first place. Well SoapBoxCleaners, I am positive because my wife specifically asked my if I was sure I wanted to include my Supreme t-shirts with the wash and fold. Please note this is an actual 5-star review for Soap Box Cleaners, not one of the many fakes you'll find if you read reviews for say, Rinse, which proved the most contemptible, unreliable cleaners we ever had the misfortune of contacting. More about that later, Soap Box deserves the floor now. To sum, the entire experience, while not perfect, was infinitely better than our experience with any other cleaning service, notably Rinse and especially Simplewash. I say this because Soap Box used hypoallergenic soap and the clothes we received back smelled fresh and clean, unlike the other two aforementioned companies from which we received back odiferous piles that we were left that smelled like they hadn't been dried properly and left to mildew. Most importantly, the pick up and drop off were by the same, personable individual who left us feeling like we'd scored a bargain. Rinse, on the other hand, well, just read the reviews. Notice how many poor customer service experiences were recorded, then note the odd 4- and 5-star reviews raving about their services. We didn't read before making a reservation with them thinking we couldn't do better than Rinse given our first, excellent experience with their pick up and drop off service despite receiving mildewy clothes back of which it seemed several undergarments and sets of socks were missing. When their "valet" called up to say she arrived, this vile woman not only rudely told us to bring the clothes down when asked about what we do but exactly one-minute later (according to my phone) pulled away from the curb (we watched her do this after running downstairs with our bundles) and sent a text apologizing for missing us. One solitary minute, no kidding. When we related our experience Rinse offered us $30 on our account despite being told to delete our account since I couldn't do so myself after trying repeatedly over two days to change my password so I could access and delete the account myself. Guess what? Two days later, despite being told to no longer contact us and why, we received another text advert that they would be in our area. I finally figured out how to mark messages as Spam and blocked them for life. Not matter if offered a year of free cleaning from Rinse, I would not trade our experience with Soap Box and expect to give them all future business. Our bill came to just under $100 including the $15 discount we received for being first time customers. I made sure to follow up with Rinse to advise them of our experience, of the money their company threw out the window that Soap Box so capably caught, and to keep their $30 and spend it on customer service training and getting better hours for pick up and delivery. All in all, I guess any experience would be 5-stars compared to the nightmare of Rinse. That we happily paid for cleaning that took 3 days to turn around was so worth it. From pick up to delivery, I hope you try Soap Box and have the same great experience we did. Please do not be fooled by Simplewash or Rinse about 24 hour turnaround service. It's not worth it not to prepare ahead of time accordingly and wait the 72-hours for genuine cleaning at an affordable rate. Good luck! read more
