Friendly staff, amazing turn around time for alterations. Unfortunately, all my dry cleaning came back smelling very bad. Every piece had a weird BO smell to it. Apparently this can happen when the dry cleaner doesn't clean the filters regularly so dirty solvent is run through the fabric leaving other people's grime in your fabric. Leave It To The Professionals! In the past, you've had the notion to save time and FYI "Do It Yourself". You've driven to the store, purchased a pair of slacks, then brought them home. Hemming up slacks seems like a simple task. It would be a shame if you spent time locating the pair of slacks, bringing them home, trying to hem them your self (to save money) then not seeing the results you had in mind. let me start off by clarifying that the alterations they do here are great and the actual dry cleaning is very good. My issues were are with the organization of the shop. When my beloved dry cleaner on Taraval closed after over 20 years of sparkling service I was forced to find another person to entrust with my dry cleaning. I read the reviews, did some searches, and decided to give Sandy Cleaners a try. In fact I gave half dozen tries. I had read that there was issues with finding garments when picking up which made me a little nervous, but we were pressed for time and decided to drop off our son's junior prom Tuxedo. It had just come from the tailor and all it needed was to be pressed. Easy Peasy. Despite my trepidations round one went just fine. Visits two - five were for basic dry cleaning needs. I did notice they were a bit unorganized because when we arrived our garments were never together they had to search several racks for them. Not exactly what we're used to. The last visit was the clincher. This time it was senior prom. Same tuxedo, but this time it needed to be cleaned as did his shirt. All I can say is thank goodness it was my husband who did the pick up and not me! It took almost THIRTY minutes, yes thirty minutes to find the jacket, pants and shirt. They were all separate and in different locations throughout the shop! That was enough for me. My search continues. read more

I want to give Sandy's a good rating for their friendliness and promptness. Dry cleaning of sweaters is about the best recommendation I can make on their behalf. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience. The replacement of a lining in my suit trousers wasn't top notch for around $70.00 including cleaning and pressing. I can't remember the exact price but I thought it was worth it at the time assuming the work is excellent. Replacing lining in trousers is a lot of work. Also, as part of the same order, Sandy's lost a black shirt that they sent out for washing and pressing while I received someone else's shirt. To date, we haven't been reimbursed for the missing item but I trust they will figure something out. Speaking of "Sandy," I had the best experience with a cleaners and tailor when Asia Cleaners on California near 6th Avenue was in business. Sandy and her husband ran a professional shop and all my clothes and alterations were handled superbly. They retired about 2 years ago. I also tried Peninou's French Laundry and Cleaners in Laurel Heights for my best clothing. I've had mixed results but would still recommend it for the most important items in your wardrobe. It's hard to live up to these standards but, I, too, want to find an excellent, reliable, and consistent cleaners. I'm looking for cleaners and tailors who understand women's business clothing needs: Cleaned and pressed shirts that are not wrinkled at the collars (I hate that!) and creases on the trousers where you don't want them. Apologies for ranting on this review for Sandy's. I'm giving them 3 stars because I think they do satisfy a clientele and are a local business in West Portal. This review is for dry cleaning services only. I've been bringing my dry clean only clothes to Sandy Cleaners for over three years now. I am happy with the quality and the service here, and I've yet to have a mishap with my clothes (knock on wood). Sandy does the cleaning on the premises. I seem to have the worst luck with dry cleaners in the City. The places that act only as a middleman and send articles out have lost my clothes. The other one with a plant on the premises caused chemical burns on a great overcoat of mine and refused to accept responsibility for the problem. Off the rack clothing doesn't fit me, so 90% of my stuff is either made to measure or has been altered to fit me. Thus, it's a pain (and costly) to get clothing replaced. Sandy Cleaners was a recommendation from a friend who grew up in nearby St. Francis Wood. My guess is that its proximity means Sandy Cleaners is more competent at dealing with better quality clothing. read more

Exceeded my expectations! It was a zipper replacement that had a special zipper pull on a jacket. When I dropped it off, it was determined that the pull couldn't be carried over onto the new zipper. When I picked it up today, 2 days after I dropped it off and less than $25 later, they were able to carryover the zipper pull. Will use them for all of our dry cleaning/alterations needs. read more

I give it four stars because I'm afraid if I give five, I'll find a better place tomorrow. THE ONLY PLACE IN THE BAY THAT I'VE FOUND TO DO MY HUSBAND'S PANTS WITH HEAVY STARCH!! We're from Texas, ya'll! So, of course, we grew up with the fact that when our mothers sent clothes to the cleaners to be starched, they came back with the ability to stand on their own. So, that's the way he likes his pants. It took four different tries in Daly City and San Francisco to get it right. Sandy Cleaners is pretty cheap for the most part and she usually remembers my name, so that's a big plus in a city this large! ooh!! plus, the place is not that hard to get to!! I go on weekends to pick up and drop off if I can. I park out front and I'm never in for more than 5 minutes. The only bad thing about the location is when I go after work, I have to deal with the traffice on 19th. But, not bad enough to deter me from going. read more

Recommended - We've successfully dry cleaned a suit, a few men's shirts and even a 'fancy' dress here without issue. The service is professional and dry cleaning is done on site. Everything has been ready on time. The prices are on the high side, but this is West Portal after all. Access via MUNI and parking is easy. read more

In the theme of saving money on the Fall/Winter wardrobe 2008, I was in search of a convenient dry cleaner. I thought I would give Sandy's a try. I like the location of this cleaners. It is in a less busy section of the avenue. In the morning, when you need to drop off your clothing, you can find a parking place. The coffee and breakfast places up the avenue creates alot of traffic. I was not certain that the grease stains would be removed from my light camel 3/4 length jacket pantsuit, miracles of miracles, my suit was saved. It cost $18.00, but that saves me from having to buy another suit in this color. I don't have many non-black suits so it mattered. I hope I stay clean this season. On 8/7/2015 I said : "$8.50 to dry clean one sport-coat. $36 to tailor (shorten the sleeves on the coat, and shorten the length on the slacks) a suit. I'm not saying this is a good or bad price, just sharing what they charged me." Today, 1/21/2017, I say the pros of this place are that if you really want them to get your clothes cleaned or altered fast (within a few days) they'll do it. The con about this place is that if you just want to get your clothes pressed (ironed), they'll charge you just about the same as if you wanted to get it cleaned. The other con is that they miss spots very often even though they mark them with red tape when you drop off the clothes. So I recommend you check your clothes before you leave there with your "clean" clothes if you had a particular spot or stain in mind that you were aware of. read more

They do a pretty good job with the heavy starch on hubby's shirt. Got my sweater hoodie dry cleaned here and I was afraid they'd shrink it, but my fear was unfounded. The owners are nice and seem reliable. We used to go to Mimi's but Sandy Cleaners' prices are much more reasonable and I like the fact that I can usually find parking in the area and they fold your sweaters into clear plastic pouches not safety pinned to hangers. $14 for 5 shirts and one sweater. read more

Sandy? Not Sandy's? I always thought it was my mom's accent. "Sandy" is super sweet and fobulous, like bubble tea, and handles shirts, dresses, & skirts with tender loving care. I worry about her son, though. I think she makes him work there on school holidays. She's good but not worth trekking over to West Portal for unless you're picking up shoes from Mr. Tip Top or secretly grocery shopping at your parents' house nearby. I think their dry cleaning is good, but the service is slow. They tell you the day your dry cleaning/laundry is to be done and then you go in and they are tracking down all your pieces. They don't package your order together so there is no way you can quickly go pick up the order in a couple of minutes. If you are in a hurry or want to be efficient with your time doing errands, then I would look for another place. read more

DON'T USE THESE GUYS!!! I took in a couple of silk blouses for cleaning. When I came to pick them up (at the scheduled day/time), they couldn't find them and told me I to come back (no offer to deliver them off when they found them). When I did come back, they show me a GIANT rip on the sleeve of one of the blouses (which they inspected when I brought it in) and tell me it was that way when I dropped it off!!! I told them the blouse was NOT ripped when it was dropped off , but they refused to accept any responsibility. And they even made me pay for cleaning of the other blouse!!!! I will NEVER use them again and strongly suggest no one else does either. There are simply too many good dry cleaners with great service. read more

It's difficult to be positive about most dry cleaners since I feel most of them are way over priced and really don't care about your clothes. My experience at Sandy's Cleaners,however, has been different. They really do seem to care about doing a good job and getting your clothes finished when promised. Whether I stop by when the open at 7:30AM or arrive right before they close, they are always friendly, interested in making sure they are clear on what you want done, and when you want your cleaning or laundry completed. Even special requests liking bagging items separately are met without hesitation. I came to Sandy's more than a year ago after feeling that another cleaner on West Portal was getting too expensive and not really doing a good job---I'm glad I made the switch. read more

Had yet another wonderful experience having a gown altered by Sandy. Note that this review is for their alterations, as I have yet to use their dry cleaning service. They are meticulous and expertly fitted my evening gown, and even had me come in for 3 separate fittings just to get the fit/length right. I paid under $50 for this service, which was a steal. I've had other cocktail dresses shortened, etc, with them that turned out great as well. I will definitely trust her to my other garments in the future should they require alteration. read more

I've been a Sandy's customer for more than 7 years and frankly, having tried a number of other cleaners on West Portal, I think they do a great job. I have used Sylvia there for alterations, albeit not too complicated alterations (simple hems, waistline alterations, zipper replacements) and have been very satisfied. Tip, when dealing with Sylvia, speak clearly and be sure that she writes down measurements and you should not have a problem. Sandy's owners really care about customer satisfaction. They have gone over and above the norm to be sure that my clothes were done perfectly. I once had a problem and after that day, they have been careful and have taken the time, per my request, to measure knits pants, etc. so they come back the same length and size. They have also, removed buttons before cleaning and then sewed them back on after cleaning to avoid damage. I have to say, they do a really good job and they have a great attitude no matter when I am in the store. read more

I'm a fan only because it's difficult to find another dry cleaner that is relatively reliable and reasonable. But I totally agree with Nancy L.'s review. Happened today to me as the owner couldn't track down one piece of my order. Had me wait at the counter with no apology nor explanation. Went back and forth looking at both main racks and still nothing. It would have been nice if she gave me an explanation rather than let me guess. Another customer came in after me and had to wait until my mystery was solved. Fortunately they found the missing piece, but I had to keep an eye on the meter as that is the only available parking nearby. You can get free street parking around the corner in the side streets, but lots of people are aware of this as well so it's limited. read more
