We were visiting family in Atlanta and wanted to go to brunch. One of the family mentioned she'd been to the Corner Cafe for brunch once before. We decided to try it out. It was a Friday around noon and the restaurant was crowded; we had made a reservation. Two of us got the Veggie Omelette and my partner got the Fried Chicken and Waffles. I rarely give 2 star ratings, but two of us left most of our omelette. It was that bad. See the pictures - the egg was razor thin and completely tasteless - the veggies were not sautéed - they were hard, especially the broccoli, and most fell out of the omelette when I went to cut it!! The little bit of cheese in the omelette was not melted. I was so surprised and disappointed. I can only remember leaving an omelette uneaten once before. The only redeeming part of our breakfast were the grits - they were good. My partner had gotten the Fried Chicken and Waffles. The chicken was good - tasty and juicy, but the interior part of the waffle wasn't completely baked - it was soggy. It detracted from the piece of fried chicken sitting atop - so she didn't eat the waffle. So if you want a bright and nice diner style food situation, this will be an option. They have the basics, steak and eggs and bacon and french toast and things like that. It's a really well-rounded option. You'll get there and you'll notice that it is free to park so giving the city that it's in. This is a good thing! The parking lot is the biggest but it just depends on what time you go. If you go during breakfast time or right at the start of brunch, good luck LOL. If you go during a high traffic time, you may have to wait. The last time I went, the weight was about 30 minutes but they got us in in 15. You will just stand around but it's not like you're going to be cramped up because there is a little bit of waiting space. Not a lot! But a little. When you walk in they have a whole bakery set up, so if you wanted to buy just some bakery items you could do that. You could probably do that and walk out and not even have to worry about ordering if you just want it. Some bread. But it looks nice and clean and plenty of options as far as the bakery goes. All the way to have to entertained it with us was really friendly. They came and dropped off banana muffins and chocolate chip muffins to the table. Kept our water cups full and the coffee flowing. They were really cool and gave us time to look over the venue to make sure we knew where we wanted and they gave us suggestions as well. They actually knew their stuff and were very descriptive when it came to describing the menu which made it very easy to pick. Steak and eggs - on a specific meal plan so I'm not going to go wild so I just stuck with the basic steak and eggs. The steak was cooked well done and you actually were able to cut it with a butter knife. The eggs I got Sunny side up, you can't really mess that up unless you cook it too hard. But they were cooked very well. It had fried onion straws on it, so I gave it a little extra uniqueness to the dish. Which fried onions are good so that was no issue at all. Overall, this is a pretty good spot. It's nothing major or nothing flashy but if you just want some nice solid food, that isn't going to charge you $30 for steak and eggs, this will be a good spot to consider. I hate to say this but for me, Corner Cafe used to be worthy of a 5-star bougie Brunch compliment, but my most recent visit last weekend pits it squarely at the 4-star category for me. This was because of a combination of ambiance, service, and food prep. I'll start at the bottom. We ordered the Eggs Benedict and the "poached eggs" on top were unfortunately cooked all the way through. We could have considered sending them back to re-assessment, but honestly our server came by so infrequently there was hardly an opportunity. Perhaps she had too many tables. On the food front, my only additional comment is that I think they microwaved the bacon. We asked for it to be extra crispy, and if came out like a (potentially) microwave-zapped saw dusted crumbly board. We also ordered the famous Chicken & Waffles, but having had many extraordinary chicken and waffles lately, I can say that these were solid. I'd order them again, however, to me, the waffle was no more special than an Aunt Jemima store-bought waffle. I'd love to see them revamp this classic dish. As alluded to throughout, the service was not very attentive and the overall spammed nature of the restaurant make the ambiance feel chaotic. Over 25 minutes to have 2 simple sandwiches served to us. I ordered my BLT with extra bacon for a $3 up charge and I could barely find 3 slices. A starter basket of mini muffins, nice ambiance, friendly service, and a happy birthday pastry! Overall our experience was solid. The omelette, mango smoothie, French press coffee, and chicken and waffles were standouts. The crab Benedict, side of bacon, and fresh toast earned three stars, with some generosity added in. The crab Benedict was missing some flavor, the French toast was dry and did not have the promised white chocolate, and the bacon tasted almost like jerky (To be fair, our waitress did tell us, if the restaurant had a special it would be the chicken and waffles). Arriving on a Sunday just before 10 am, there was about a 15 minute wait for a table of 3. The cafe shares space with a bread company which was a perfect wait to feeds our eyes while we waited. Otherwise, you can also leave while you wait for the text message for the table. We started on their complimentary muffins in the flavors of banana bread and chocolate chip. They were a little dry and could have been better if served warm but it was still a sweet way to start the meal. I got their CC "Cuban" Panini Sandwich which was not my favorite Cuban I've had but it was still solid. The sandwich plus the leek potato soup was a great combination since the soup was so creamy and rich. My friend's Roasted Rosemary Lamb Sandwich was deliciously juice and flavorful. A simple improvement could have been toasting the bun first. My mom enjoyed her Jumbo Lump Crab Cake Benedict which was served on circular cut outs of plain bread, which were a little to small compared to using the traditional English muffins. Overall, I had a pleasant experience in this locally owned shop. The staff were kind from beginning to end and it was a comfortable and homey environment to be in. The Cafe is a bright, comfortable environment, and I love the classic European design of the front of the restaurant, with its wood tones, beams, and panelings. We received solid customer service. My husband and I arrived on a Sunday late morning and ordered the Lump Crab Cake Benedict and Pancakes with eggs and cheese grits. We grabbed a cheese pocket and a cinnamon donut muffin because we couldn't resist grabbing a few desserts to enjoy later. The crab cake was a bit salty, and I did not love the discs that served as the foundation for the benedict. However, the potatoes were crispy and flavorful. My husband's pancakes were a highlight, as they were fluffy and tasty even before syrup was added. The pastries were so good! The cheese pocket was so rich and flaky, and the sweet cheese was so smooth. We also loved the muffin, which really tasted like a cake donut rolled in cinnamon and sugar. It was about 11 so we were excited that a place was still serving breakfast because we wanted some pancakes. We get sat down and our menus are all lunch items! We ask our waiter why we don't have breakfast menus, and it turns out that breakfast is only served all day on the weekends! But, other than this little bump everything else was fine. Food came out pretty fast. Atmosphere: I really liked the stone floor, it was a nice little detail. The windows all around gave for some natural lighting, and ways to see everyone else moving about! Everything is nice about this café. One feels the light atmosphere and even the gloomy weather didn't detract from it. The menu has all kinds of temptations on it, especially Nutella on various items. I've got to admit that I'm a bit tired of the Nutella trend but it's still delicious to most. The bakery is top notch. A plethora of great breads & cakes. Cakes made to order as well. The list star? Our service was terrible. The server was new but that wasn't the whole problem. It took close to an hour for our food to arrive. It may have been because our server hadn't put the order in but I doubt it because our food arrived pretty quickly once we'd asked what the delay was. Great place for breakfast. Delicious omelettes and other egg dishes. Their chicken sausage deserves an award. Spacious, so generally no problem getting a seat. Unfortunately, there is no counter just tables and when it's not crowded the atmosphere tends to sag a little. On the other end of the spectrum when it's crowded the service suffers and you may go for thirty minutes without seeing the person who waited on you. Came here because Apple Maps has shown 4.7 star rating and cool pictures of some breakfast food. However, the place is not any close to pictures and high ratings First, the atmosphere inside was disappointing, didn't match those photos, but we still trusted those 4.7 star and decided to give it a try. Menu: We could not find the items from Apple Maps/Open Table for this place in the menu and a waiter said "oh, it's old menu, nothing is available, everything has changed". We ordered Avocado toast and Belgian Waffles. It wasn't complete disaster, we could eat it but definitely not even a 4 star, there is no any reason to return. Avocado toast: smashed avocado was good, but the bread could be nicer (especially for a specialized bakery) Belgian waffles with berries: half of the blackberry were rotten that could be seen by changed colors (not black, but pale red). We proceeded to the hist station where I had to give my number for seating. After 10 mins, we were told that our seats were ready. I really wanted to like this place because I stepped out of my comfort zone to give another "fancy" breakfast spot a chance over waffle house / ihop and was ultimately disappointed. The food is so expensive almost every dish on the menu is around $20 and the portion sizes are so small. My sister ordered a breakfast sandwich, which was tasty but the bread was so thin the tomato on it was thicker than both slices. I had the cheese omelet. It was just a plain, simple, greasy little cheese omelet that came with the same paper thin toast and plain grits. The food was bland and cold. My sad omelette plate was $18 and it didn't even come with a breakfast meat I had to add it on the side for $6. I would have been happier going to wafflehouse or even making breakfast at home but it was a special occasion and I wanted to have a nice meal with my sister.
