I think CB is gross. The chicken is always weird. And it's too expensive here. But if you need lunch in the loop and you are with a decent amound of people, you may have luck finding a table here. That is the only reason I am writing this. There is a fair amount of seating here. Otherwise, the food sucks, it's overpriced, blah blah blah. But it's CB, so I'm sure that is the case at any of them (I don't frequent these types of places much). SO for groups, not bad, especially if you aren't that hungry. Otherwise, pass. **Update** Change to three stars bc Swiss Oatmeal is delicious. Super good. I'm not sure when I discovered it, but I've become quite a regular at this location because of it. It's a chain, so the food is decent in a standard sort of way. But this place never gets my order right AND I always end up waiting at least 5-10 minutes for coffee and a pastry. How difficult is it to make a cafe au lait and bag a cookie? Apparently pretty difficult b/c I always have to explain what a cafe au lait is and how to make it. Got to the final straw today--purchased a cafe au lait, waited a long time, then had to rush out to get to work. Get to work and take off the lid to my coffee--it's black. I spoke clearly, confirmed my order with the coffee person (I refuse to call them a barista), and noted that my reciept said "cafe au lait"--so its in their computers. I was really only stopping here b/c I'm trying to finish a coffee club card. But, though I'm loathe to do so, I'm going to toss the card and never go back. read more

Corner Bakery Café is confused. It cannot decide whether it wants to be a restaurant with waiter service, or whether it wants to be a fast food outlet. It leaves the diner -- namely, me -- a little confused as well. How do you get what you want or need with your meal? You order your meal standing at a counter. On an early Sunday morning, I was very happy to order the Anaheim Scrambler and a medium coffee. You pay, and you get an empty paper cup and a card with a number on it. You display the card at whichever table you choose and someone delivers your meal along with real metal silverware. That's the waiter service. The table had salt and pepper, but nothing else -- no condiments, no sweeteners, nothing. I looked at the very plain potatoes and knew they'd need something to add flavor. The man who delivered my food walked by and I said, do you have any hot sauce? He said, tabasco okay? I said yes, and he returned quickly with tabasco sauce and ketchup. Regarding the meal -- the eggs were absolutely delicious. Just great. I got some potatoes with them that were cooked well, but flavorless. I also got two slices of plain toasted bread, I think it was whole grain. Nobody asked me what kind of bread I wanted, so I assume this is what normally comes with the Anaheim scrambler. I went to the counter and asked, if there any jam for the toast? The employee indicated a counter at the far side of the restaurant, and there I found butter, jam, coffee, creamers, and condiments. That's the self-serve fast-food part of the restaurant. I was very happy with the breakfast's flavor and quantity, although I do think it was kind of pricey. I'm not crazy about the organization of the place, though. But now that I know more about how it's run, I can enjoy my meal more. I just wish that counter service staff wouldn't assume that customers have been there a million times before and know all the ins and outs of how this confused place is organized. read more

When you're stuck in the Daley center, it certainly isn't the McDonald's across the street. And I might've liked lunch a lot better if it wasn't $8 with tap water. Half a veggie panini (felt more "grilled cheese" than "panini"--but yes, I see the grill marks on it) and a cup of veggie lentil soup. Handful of potato chips and a pickle spear. It did the job. They make excellent use of the space they're given, which I respect. They really move the line along with multiple cashiers and get your food out quickly. But for a spot with that much seating capacity, one one-person restroom per gender really does not cut it. Especially for those of us who wash our hands before we eat. Not good. Reminds me of airport food. Got a garden scramble and there was a pool of yellow liquid in the bowl, which I can only hope was undercooked eggs. Supposedly they are a bakery, but have one toast option, harvest white bread. Also ordered a smoothie, assuming it was freshly made from actual fruit, but then saw them dump concentrated mix into the blender with ice. Dine here at your own risk. My friend's purse was stolen here a few weeks ago while we were seated and eating lunch. One of the employees told us that it happens frequently at this location because there's no security or surveillance cameras. None of the people who work here offered an apology, reported it to the manager or anything. They just brushed it off. I emailed corporate plus sent a message over Facebook to report the incident but I haven't received a response. I won't be going back to Corner Bakery but if you do decide to dine here, keep a close watch on your belongings. read more

I LOVE this chain of restaurants! In comparison to Panera Bread, this place is one notch better in my opinion. I feel like the food is a little fresher and tastes a little more wholesome. This location has a very friendly staff who has gotten to know me by name since I practically eat their food everyday (they're right across the street from my building). One of the dishes I HIGHLY recommend is their Pesto Cavatappi! Soooo delicious! if you're feeling naughty, definitely try one or two of their cookies! read more

In the area for Christkindl market and needed a warm spot to wait for friends. Even though I used to work around the corner on Randolph, I really only had got coffee to go here and did not have much experience. The staff was very friendly, especially considering the crowds they were probably dealing with being between the market and the train stations. Our order was prepared correctly and brought to table quickly and we were checked on once or twice as we waited. This would have been 5 stars however they do take their time clearing tables (We saw no trash cans) which made it confusing for some who came in and did not know if the table was taken or not. I think I finally figured out what to get at this place. Chicken noodle soup and a caesar salad. It was delicious and filling! I like this location because it's actually on a corner and the inside is so cozy. It feels like a cute charming home to me. The only negative I had while eating at this location besides the lady who insisted on shoving her chair onto mine the whole meal (not the restaurant's fault), was that the brownie was a bit overcooked. However, seeing as I was on a full chocolate kick this week, it didn't stop me from eating it all, oh so bad. I'll be back, for sure. I noticed they have a spicy chicken tortilla soup Sunday-Tuesday. I'm a bit confused about this place, they are trying to be like a restaurant but are understaffed to operate as one. There is usually no place to sit, and you are supposed to leave your garbage behind as the servers are supposed to pick it up, and there is no garbage cans to throw it out like in PaneraBread. However, they do not have enough people so there is always garbage left over everywhere, so if you happen to find a seat you have to sit with someones garbage in-front of you until your food arrives. They only have 3 panninies/sandwiches or whatever you want to call it (Chicken, Turkey, Vegetarian) so the choices in sandwiches are very limited. If you modify something (e.g. No tomato) they will ignore it and still put it in there. Lastly, if you eat there and order soup they still give you a plastic spoon and fork. I stopped by to pick up a salad for lunch the other day and tried their greek salad for the first time. I'm generally a fan of corner bakery but this location needs work! The lettuce was down right brown and almost rotten. Like Mike S. said in his recent review, I would have sent it back if I had been there but I didn't discover this until I was at my office. I basically paid $6 for bad lettuce, a sprinkle of feta cheese, and a couple of sliced olives that look like they came out of a can. I don't recommend this location at all. Try the one across the street from the Daley Center on Randolph or the one on LaSalle and Lake instead. read more

What's really bad about this situation is that I had already talked with Michelle Rushing, Area Director, about a situation regarding the CB at the Goodman Theatre, 56 W. Randolph. I had ordered the Power Greens Shrimp Salad and I left the CB with no salad or refund money. I thought the situation would get better after talking with Ms. Rushing. I was wrong. I decided to go to the Corner Bakery on Washington and Wells. A young girl named Raven was at the register. When she saw that I had my "Be My Guest" certificates, she gave me attitude and unprofessionalism. With "Be My Guest" certificates, the staff knows that they came from corporate for a bad experience. So, I guess this individual named Raven was going to come off ignorant and uncouth to me because I complained about service at a CB. What she failed to realize is that if I had got good service in the first place, I would not have had to call corporate on any CB. For example, when I went to pay for the order, she was staring at the certificates in my hand. So, we both were just staring at them. After around 30 seconds, she looked up at me and with attitude asked, "You go be using them?" I just looked at her. Totally ridiculous. I don't know if there is re-training that is needed or if this is just the CB way, but there really needs to be some re-training. Walking pass customers and not greeting them or giving them attitude isn't going to cut it in downtown Chicago where there are numerous eateries and the competition is fierce to get customers and keep them. read more

The snow having thwarted my trendier dinner plans, I had a couple of pre-show hours to spend in the Loop and wandered here to this rather forlorn cafe with every intention of working over my ciabatta. But a hot cup of great tropical green tea, some soothing music and a complimentary wi-fi connection has washed down that desire! So here I am, practically the only person here and even though the scenery outside is limited to the traffic on Wells and a CVS, yelping over dinner is proving to be a pleasant distraction. The bread they gave was cold, the food is tasteless, and the fruit is even overly moist.
