Tried CorePower Yoga for the First week - Mixed Feelings.... I visited CorePower Yoga during their first-week-free promotion and decided to take a Hot Power Fusion class. The Hot Power Fusion class felt very segmented, but-it was a good experience. The instructor was knowledgeable, patient, and had a calming way of guiding us through the session. The front desk staff were also very friendly and welcoming. The studio is located below street level, downstairs, so don't expect to walk in from the sidewalk. Instead, you'll spot their sign and large windows looking down into the space. The interior is well-lit, modern, and spacious. There are only two studios for classes, and a small retail area with yoga apparel and accessories near the front desk. Changing rooms are limited--just three private changing rooms, so keep that in mind if you're visiting during peak times. They offer medium-sized combination lockers that don't require a lock, which is convenient. So, why only 3 stars if the class and instructor were great? Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the studio left me disappointed. I usually bring my mat, but since this was my first week, I decided to try one of theirs. Big mistake. The mat I used had a strong, wet towel smell. Happens when you don't let it air out. It wasn't noticeable at first, but once I got into the heated studio, the odor on the mat became overwhelming. It was so bad that it transferred onto my personal towel I was using. My personal towel was clean prior to using it for class. I had to place another towel near my face just to get through the class. The Hot Power Fusion class was just a few minutes away from starting when I noticed something unusual for a hot yoga studio--the door to the room was open while it was heated and prior to class starting. At every other hot yoga studio I've been to, the doors are always kept closed both before and during class to maintain the temperature. After class, mats are tossed into an open bin outside the studio. I have no idea how long they sit there before getting cleaned, which can be an issue if left there for a while and not cleaned and aired out fast enough to be reused. It's concerning. During yoga, let alone Hot Yoga, your mat absorbs sweat, creating an ideal environment for bacteria to grow. In warm, dark, and moist conditions, these bacteria multiply and produce unpleasant odors on yoga mats when not cleaned on time and sanitized properly. When I grabbed blocks, a few were still wet--unclear if it was sweat or cleaning solution. Either way, I had to wipe them down myself with sanitizer wipes before using them. The studios are small--nothing like what I've experienced before. The studio rooms were dark, the mirrors appeared unclean, and the floor clearly hadn't been properly cleaned--I noticed it as soon as I sat on my mat. To top it off, the overall space had a lingering smell--a combination of old sweat and carpet smell that I've never noticed at other yoga studios I've been to. Have you considered installing air purifiers? Many yoga studios have them to eliminate the smell of sweat and germs. In short, while I enjoyed the class, this particular CorePower location didn't meet my expectations when it came to hygiene and smell. Updating the studio slightly, adding air purifiers to help the air, and improving the overall cleanliness of the rooms could make a big difference. Additionally, there was an unpleasant odor coming from the carpet near the lockers. The studio has a strong, lingering smell of sweat. For such a popular yoga space, I'm surprised they haven't installed air purifiers. Other studios I've visited have taken that extra step to keep the air fresh and clean. Especially with back-to-back classes, it's crucial to air out the studios. Walking into a space that's just been used, without proper cleaning or ventilation, is unpleasant. I'm not sure how frequently or quickly the studios are cleaned after each class, but I highly recommend maintaining cleanliness immediately after back-to-back classes. Especially, in a hot yoga environment. Since there are no air purifiers in place, it might be helpful to invest in fans or other ventilation solutions to improve air quality. Also, why was the instructor opening the studio door while the class was in session? Do you realize how harmful it is to the body to go from extreme heat to sudden cold air circulation? I'm also disappointed because the videos and images I've seen from other locations are completely different from what I experienced at the Williamsburg location. I might give another location a try, maybe, but I'll definitely be bringing my own mat next time if I decide to stop by again. read more

Sadly I had to give this experience 2 stars. I'll start with the good news- the instructor was very nice and had a good experience getting set up for my first time & enjoyed the music. I love that they offer a free one week. The studio: it's a very dark and dingy. It was a small and crowded room. Weights were old, mirrors were scratched and flooring felt old. I really think it would make a big difference if they were to remodel and make it feel nicer & more open of a space. It also didn't feel the cleanest and the low ceilings really make the room feel even smaller. The workout: I took yoga sculpt & I felt like the only reason I was sweating was because it was a heated class. The actual movements and flow was segmented and felt inconsistent and felt like I hadn't actually gotten a work out. I only went to one class with my 7 day free trial and didn't feel the need to return. I only want to give this honest & transparent feedback so that corepower can improve, I hope this helps. read more

I have a gym but it's pretty far from my place. In my search for a closer workout spot, I came across Corepower Yoga. There are a few around the city, but Williamsburg is 2 stops away on the G, so I booked a class. Checked in at the desk, picked up a mat, put my stuff in a locker and headed into room 1, And Wow!! I haven't sweat that much or felt so relaxed after a yoga class in a long time. Maybe it was the hot day, maybe the room, but it was a good combo. Quinn was an efficient yet gentle instructor. I especially liked the towel fan at the end. So needed! The studio is clean & smells nice. There are changing rooms and showers. Everyone was friendly. I'm definitely going back! read more

I tried a few studios during my Corepower trial while I was in NYC and this location was my favorite studio. I'm not sure I love their darkened rooms but I did enjoy trying out hot yoga. read more

Alicia was AMAZING!!!! This was my 1st core power yoga class so I was not really ready for this but BABY!!! I did my thang in this class. The class consist of music, weights and the poses of yoga. The weights are not as heavy cause you can choose your desire weight to workout, I surely held the 2 lbs. bars with pride. The yoga is hot and you will SWEAT and I MEAN SWEAT!!!!!! so be prepared to have a good workout. read more

I have being going here for a few months and have tried various instructors. I ADORE Dustin Maxwell's classes and wish I could take them every day! 100% the best instructor I've ever taken, and actually seems like he has studied proper yoga not just the trendy fitness lululemon version. I have had a few negative experiences with some instructors, such as one who gripped me with her feet without asking, which 1) is considered incredibly disrespectful in Indian culture -- where yoga comes from 2) aren't corepower instructors supposed to ask before touching? I would have said no if she had asked to be touched with her feet. read more

Let me be clear: this is not a yoga studio. They do not practice yoga here. The instructor played dance music during the class and just quickly yelled poses at us with absolutely no context or demonstration. Most people just stood bewildered between poses trying to watch other people who had taken the class before so they could copy those people. This is pretty much just an overcroweded yoga influenced pilates class for people who like Soulcycle. If that appeals to you, then you will like it. This is not what I want when I go to yoga, so I would not recommend it. I was trying not to laugh the entire time.This "practice" is like a movie parody of trendy workouts. Also their website, app, and scheduling platform are not linked so expect to have an impossible time scheduling any classes. They offer a free into week, but it's not even worth that. Really enjoy this studio. I moved from California where there is a place called Yogasource I used to go to. I was looking for similar classes with a hot Pilates vibe and a hot power yoga vibe that built muscle and increased flexibility. CorePower yoga is both similar and different. Pros-I really enjoy the teachers, I'm always greeted with a smile at the desk and sometimes asked my name bc they really try to know you and root for you in class. The whole studio is clean and spacious and I always feel at ease when I take my time getting out. Plentiful Lockers, 2 shower stalls, and a water fountain are provided too. I enjoy how you can make the class more difficult by choosing heavier weights in yoga sculpt and they always play great music to get you going. Love the Beyoncé, hip hop, and booty shaking tunes girls!!! The corepower 2 class is also good. I enjoy a little more inversions so sometimes they ask in beginning what new things we want to try. Cons-sometimes I feel like the yoga sculpt is a little repetitive in each class. It's like you already know what's coming next and it makes it a little less exciting but still a good workout. Most yoga/Pilates/barre studios I've been to in Ca and Ny have little touches like tampons in the bathroom, complimentary towels for showers, and small plastic bags for after yoga sweaty clothes. I think this would be a really nice touch for those of us on the go. Or even towels for black tag members? They have a 1 week free trial for new members but black tag is a little pricey but no more than other places around the Burg. It's worth giving a shot! read more

I tried this studio on a free week trail and decided to commit to a month because I enjoyed the yoga sculpt classes, which is not yoga, btw. I signed up for a 7:00pm class and showed up at 7:02, rushing from work through the crazy NYC commute, only to find out they gave my spot away. Here's the thing: they call people on the wait list 5 minutes BEFORE the class start time. Therefore, even if you show up on time for a class, you may not get into that class because they may have already given your spot away. I take classes all over the city and it is generally the policy to allow 5 minutes and then call the wait list (e.g. Barry's Bootcamp, Soul Cycle, YoBK, etc). So what's the point of signing up for a class at a designated time if you may not get it? Also, I took a class two days before that started 4 minutes late. As another reviewer said, it is okay for them to be late, but not you, not even by a couple of minutes. I won't be back and I suggest you don't go either! read more

FYI - if you're a first-timer with CorePower you get your first week for free! I've been slowly trying different yoga studios in the Willyb area, so CorePower was naturally on my list. When you walk into this studio, you can tell its top-tier. Clean, spacious facilities with changing rooms, bathrooms and showers. Also, they have those lockers with combo codes built in, along with shoe cubbies and a coat rack. You can rent a mat for $2 and there also water bottles for purchase and towels as well. Its $32 for a single class, but if you buy in a package of 5, its $154 (you save $6). I tried two classes so far: C2 COREPOWER YOGA, which is their basic, intermediate hot yoga class, and YOGASCULPT, a hot yoga with free weights class. If you're new to the yogi game, the studio recommends that you take a C1 class and then move to C2, and then YogaSculpt. Both classes were fantastic, each had different strengths. The C2 isn't a high-intensity class, but its great for challenging yourself with different flows and positions. As for the Yogasculpt, I absolutely loved how intense this class was - probably the most challenging hot yoga class I've taken. Its a blend of yoga and strength-training, with even a little bit of cardio. We did everything from squats, to bicep curls to burpees. It was my first time experiencing a class like that, and I was really feeling the burn the next day. Also, a huge pro with this studio - they don't overbook their clases!! All in all, I really enjoyed my experiences with CorePower - it really is a Grade A studio. read more

Gets too crowded, instructors can't really go around and correct your posture. Not as personable. They play too much music. Like I'd really like to chill to my breathe in silence. I was visiting the Brooklyn / Williamsburg area. Thought about a yoga class mid afternoon. Yelped it and saw about a dozen options...different studios. I picked the Core Power Yoga location on 4th Street as it was very nearby and also close to Whole Foods market. This was Halloween Weekend 2017. I checked out the Core Yoga website and saw that they had a promotion for free class for Men and that they had a free week for new members. I decided to check them out. I made a class reservation online and registered a profile on the Core Power Yoga website. The setting was very trendy and organized. The teacher of the class Catie was also the receptionist and greeted me warmly and gave me directions to the changing rooms, lockers, showers and the Yoga Studio. Once I got to the Studio I was only one of two men, with about 20 + women. The class was completely full but not jam packed. Everyone looked to be a very fit millennial, some could be models. The class was rated as C2 (core power level 2). A more vigorous yoga in a heated room with more humidity. Catie was incredibly present for the class and very much on point, leading the class through the session seamlessly moving us from posture to posture. It was a challenging session, I took several breaks to rest and towel off...there was a lot of sweating going on definitely a Hot Yoga class! I have enough experience with Yoga to be familiar with all the postures but this class would be very, very challenging for a newbie. I managed to stay for the whole class. There was a lot of socializing after the class and I guess between the classes also. The availability of showers was a very welcome sight after all that sweating. The showers were very clean and utilitarian. Catie was available after class to chat with all the students. That was really nice. I plan to go again while I'm in town and when I return to the Brooklyn, Williamsburg area. The single classes cost about $32 each for an hour. The new student offer is free for a full week. The regular monthly membership cost is $280 per month. read more

After taking a class with Taryn, I was sold. CorePower yoga is a step up from regular power vinyasa with amazing instructors and a core workout in each class. I recommend Taryn- her energy is infectious with a mix up upbeat motivation and zen calm. Her music is on point, knowledge of the practice is amazing, and her classes are like a spiritual awakening. I have come for a few classes and every time they have always been a few minutes late. This time, I got there at 3:01 for a 3:00 class and they refuse to let me in. Ok that's fine if that's the studio policy; I guess you can't do anything about it despite me being pissed off, but they topped it off with one of the girls saying "there's a yoga to the people around the corner," suggesting I go there instead(?!). I think this was my favorite of all the CorePower Yoga locations! It has a nice (gentrified) Brooklyn vibe to it, and the studio is very clean! Your first week is free, which is a steal! I especially appreciate that the instructors ask for your permission to correct form at the beginning of each class. read more

I was lucky to find this little gem. Love this spot. This yoga studio provides a variety of different classes for different ability levels. The best part is that the classes are available every day and can fit just about anyone's schedule. With times starting in the early morning before work, right after work, to late evening. The biggest plus for me is if your not sure if yoga is your thing, they will provide you with a free 7 day pass to try and determine for yourself. So what are you waiting for? I took a class at Core Power Yoga in LA years ago and it remains the best yoga experience of my life, so I was THRILLED when I saw that a location was opening in Brooklyn (actually kicking myself for not knowing there was one uptown, but no use crying over spilled milk... or ummm... down dogs?). Anyway, I'm currently five days in to the new student week deal and feeling better than I have in ages! I even convinced a friend to come with me today! All of the teachers I have had so far have been so friendly and open and supportive. I really appreciate the interaction during class, which never feels condescending or stiff. I love that the teachers are at the desk before class to answer any questions, and that they all seem to really enjoy getting to know more about the students after class. The only change I would love to see is if the lights were lowered a little for the entire class, rather than right at the end. read more

This place is amazing. I decided once and for all that I needed a change in my life. I come from a background of doing lifting heavy and intense strength training exercises and I wanted to change it up. My goal was finding an activity that would create balance in my life. I googled "yoga that involved working out your core" and Corepower Yoga popped up. After reading up on it- I decided to take advantage of their free week and I'm sold! It's seriously the most life changing experience ever! It's so far from my house but I'm going to continue this journey and commit to the classes. I moved to Brooklyn recently from Chicago (which has tons of hard core studios downtown where I lived) and have tried a few studios. This studio is legit. It's all consistent nationwide which I like. I took C2 and it really kicked my but in a good way. CPY is slightly pricey but worth it. I was also surprised to see how large the facility was. A lot in Chicago are smaller. The staff is very nice along with people in NY. If you like harder yoga that where you walk out feeling like you hit the gym hard, this can be a place for you. There are quite a few studios in Brooklyn that are just very slow and for novice. This. Is. Not. That! Love-love! read more
