The drinks are strong and the Chinese street food style menu is great for sharing. No reservations and a tiny bar space upstairs. We stood bar side while ordering and had made up our minds to close out and head to another dinner spot when two seats opened up and we took them. Glad we stuck around to try the food. Dan Dan noodles were a hefty portion even if just meant for one, the Lemon pepper shrimp were saucy but still managed a crunch, and the chili wontons walked a fine line between flavorful and spicy. 3 small plates were enough for the two of us, but we could have eaten a 4th and not been overly stuffed. Parking was easy to find around the corner in the neighborhood. While the upstairs was small, loud, and crowded on a Friday summer night the downstairs patio seemed to have open seats with a lower-key vibe. I've had this on my list of restaurants to visit for such a long time ! Today we went to tour the White House for the holidays (it was gorgeous) and since the restaurant was only 15 minutes away , this was the perfect time! Location/Space/Decor: Well, it's DC so street parking it is. We were lucky to find parking right in front of the restaurant although we missed it. This is another restaurant whose signage isn't very intuitive. You'll see the name of the restaurant on the door but the color of the sign blends in with the colors of the door making it difficult to make out. The doors open up to stairs with lights. Very dark walk up the stairs leading to a small space with warm decor and lighting. The space is definitely pretty small which means it will get packed very quickly. Food and drinks: I offered a Thai Tikki and boy it was strong . It did not disappoint. We ordered quite a few things: Potstickers (Triple delight): these were delicious. Nicely cooked with a crunch and fresh to order like all other items that came out. Pan-Fried Bao (Pork and scallion): these were yummy but not what I expected. I was expecting them to be like others I've had that are warm and a tad bit on the sweet side and fluffy. These were savory and the filling was more of that of their dumplings. They were super yummy just not what I was expecting . Skewers (Chicken and porkcheeks): skewers were all delicious. We ordered all of the spicy and they were seasoned perfectly . Not too spicy at all. Fried Rice (Crab): this was delicious . The rice was fluffy and super tasty. It was perfectly seasoned but one thing we weren't expecting that was a nice surprise, it was spicy! The rice was spicier than the skewers to be honest. I do think the restaurant is on the pricey side. Skewers you get (4) pieces not bad but $24, (4) Bao Buns also $24, crab fried rice $24 (not a huge portion at all but it was fine for (2) since we had other items), and (10) Potstickers were $20. Our total bill was about $130 (Tikki drink was $17). I do think that everything was made to order and super fresh. Overall it was a cool experience and it was a cozy small place. This place has been on my list for YEARS and I was truly disappointed :( The bar area is really small, so we went out to the patio and it was cozy, intimate and nice. Service was also good! The food was SO SALTY. We ordered the pork fried rice and the salt and pepper shrimp. The shrimp had no flavor and I could tell it wasn't fresh or quality. The breading was super thick on it, and also had no flavor. The only flavor I could taste came from the chili oil, it was not fulfilling at all. The fried rice had no dimension to it outside of salt. The food had potential, and my expectations were really high, but this was a huge letdown. I had to go and pick up food after because I truly couldn't bare to finish the food here. read more

(4.5 stars) I am extremely happy that I found Copycat Co as my experience was damm near flawless!! The good definitely outweighed the bad in every aspect of the experience. The staff is second to none. Wonderful people who are friendly and attentive. Although my interactions were limited because I was only doing takeout I didn't feel as though I was treated any different from the guest that were dining in. The restaurant is a small cozy place that doesn't hold many people. The small place I think lends to more of a cozy feeling verse feeling stuffy. It's also dark inside which I appreciate but it is also somewhat loud. The food is the real star, but does have one little issue. The issue is what I think is the overuse of cilantro. Cilantro is a powerful ingredient and should be used sparingly (my opinion). The rest of the food is truly over the top delicious. I have to highly recommend the Dan Dan noodles and Chili Wontons. The Pork Fried rice shouldn't be forgotten about either as it truly deserves its spot in the delicious category. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be going back. This is a gem of NoMa. Almost has speakeasy vibes - the cocktails are definitely that good! My husband and I have been coming here since we started dated in 2019 - service and attention to detail with the food have never wavered. Everything on the menu is good, but the chili wontons & triple delight potstickers are absolute musts (A++ excellent on both). Their sazerac and Detroit Daisy cocktails are our favorite cocktails. We were in the area and found this place through yelping. Based on the high reviews, we decided to give it a try and I just LOVED everything we ate. I forgot to take pictures of potstickers but those were delicious. Also tried some lamb skewers and the sauce that comes with it, just enhances the taste even more. I had high expectations for Copycat after loving Astoria, but my experience was underwhelming. For drinks, I ordered the Summer Planters, which was really citrusy and delicious. But, all drinks are $16, which is really pricy so I'm not sure it was worth it. For food, my friend and I split the Veggie Potstickers and the Salt'n Pepper Eggplant (which comes with rice). The Veggie Potstickers were fine, but nothing special. The Salt'n Pepper Eggplant was a huge disappointment. The eggplant was cooked well, but I thought I spontaneously got Covid because it didn't taste like anything. Considering how much everything cost, this food definitely wasn't worth it. This is my new favorite bar in DC. (Although Copycat is not new!) We recently discovered this place with friends, we have been at least once a week since then, we are big cocktail lovers (particularly rum based / tiki cocktails in my case) and these bartenders are just great! This is our go to spot now that we live a few blocks away. The mapo tofu is so so so good. I didn't expect a legit meal from a cocktail bar - but we often go here to just get mapo tofu because I love it so much. It's full of Szechuan peppercorn and very rich. (I haven't been super blown away by other things I've ordered here but my husband also likes their walnut shrimp). That said, this place is so successful that it's CROWDED - expect to barely be able to hear anyone around you. My friends and I came here on a Saturday night right before it got super busy. There was no place to sit, so we stood near the bar for the duration of our time there. By the time we left, we had to work our way through a very dense crowd of standing people. I got a Bourbon Smash, and my friends got a Spicy Margarita and Caipirinha. All three drinks were absolutely delicious! But honestly my favorite part of my time at Copycat was watching the bartender make drinks - he was ridiculously talented and speedy. It felt like we were seeing him make drinks in double time; his arms were literally a blur! Several parties near us had food delivered to their tables and it smelled AMAZING. I ran in to order and waited in my car as you can expect to be shoulder to shoulder at the bar at all times. I love the concept of this spot: full bar, loud music, and amazing Asian eats. The crab fried rice is everything you can expect in a crab fried rice: perfect kick of spice, seasoned to perfection, and overall full of flavor. Paired with the salt and pepper shrimp, omg! I've never had a battered/tempura shrimp in a chili oil/sauce. It was a crunchy and flavorful batter, crispy and yet still in a oil that enhanced the flavor even more. Amazing. Portions were a tad small; we paid roughly $45 for both dishes total. So def on the pricey side, but the flavors are worth stopping in to try! read more

One of my favorite cocktail bars in DC, Copycat is a terrific place if you fancy well made cocktails and/or delicious street-style Chinese food. First cocktails. I appreciate a well made drink and Copycat never disappoints. The bartenders care about their craft, and it's obvious in the drinks. Once I mentioned my favorite drink is the Manhattan and the bartender explained there are variations of the drink named after various Manhattan neighborhoods. He prepared my own private a boozy tour through the variations. The ice is crystal clear and brought in from giant blocks that they chisel from. Everything is old school and high quality. Food. Some of the best bar food in DC. The skewers and the pot stickers are amazing. Yesterday we went in for a drink after dinner but couldn't resist ordering the pot stickers despite our full bellies. The options are chicken w/mushroom and pork, we always do half and half, and they're always excellent. My favorite is the skewers (sorry no pictures) all of the meat options are great but my personal favorite is the lamb skewer which has an amazing savory fatty slightly charred taste. Yum, I'm kicking myself for not ordering those too last night! Service. Always on point! It's busy in Copycat and seating is tight, but the bartenders always make you feel like you are their only customer. Yesterday a few minutes after ordering our pot stickers, staff informed us that he forgot to get the order in right away and that the pot stickers were on him. I've never had a server admit that to me before (though I've often presumed it to be the case), and our wait hadn't been an awful long time. Mistakes will happen and it's the mark of excellent service that mistakes are owned up to and corrected promptly. The whole night my water glass was never empty (I drink a ton of water--probably 5 glasses full last night). Great attitudes and attention to detail. I highly recommend Copycat Co for dates or meeting up with a couple friends (though probably not a large group without some sort of reservation beforehand), because the combination of cocktails, food, and service is among the absolute best in DC. read more

This one was a random find last night all because I got hungry after a night out w/ my girlfriends Copycat Co. was such a fun vibe & I was even more impressed w/ their 90's/early 2000's alternative rock playlist for the night. I mean, who doesn't love some classic No Doubt? We found some bar sending & immediately asked our bartender Luigi to whip up a drink for us w/ tequila & let me tell you, he did not disappoint. Everything on their menu sounded absolutely mouth watering & I will say, we went a little overboard. We started off w/ the "chili wontons" & "sober soup" which were amazing. Both definitely had a kick to them if you're looking for something spicy! The "walnut shrimp" & "salt'n pepper eggplant" were by far my favorite dishes out of everything we ordered. The fried eggplant had so much flavor & cooked perfectly. If you're unsure on what to order, this is a MUST try. Last but not least, we finished off w/ the "beef noodles" & i'm definitely a fan of the hand pulled belt noodles. I'm usually more of a broth/noodles kinda gal (ramen/pho) but this was quite delicious! If & when you're looking for a fun late night spot, you need to make your way over to Copycat! Overdue review for an amazing bar that's open late. This place helped make my trip to D.C. memorable. I came out of my way for this spot in particular because not only was it open late, but they had a kitchen that was open late. I highly recommend their spicy wontons, such tender dumpling skin! Ambiance was intimate and warm, drinks were delicious, and my bartender chatted me up like an old friend (I think his name was Curt). This sister restaurant to Astoria is an H street favorite. I've dined in, but also taken carry out in the middle of the pandemic. My favorite bowl of Dan Dan noodles is from Copycat/Astoria. One main feature about Copycat that differentiates it from Astoria is the skewers which give it the "street food" cred. All the skewers were super delicious including the lamb, beef and chicken. You can specify the slice level on each of the skewers. The restaurant itself is a lot smaller than Astoria some definitely make reservations before arriving or just get the food carry out. I'm not an overly dramatic person but I must say that the beef noodles I had here were probably the best. The flavors are so perfect along with the portion size. Ambiance was perfect for my BFF and I to catch up. Drinks were well made. Best to make a reservation if you can because seats here fill up rather quickly. Ok this place was an adventure! Two waiters recommended it, so we ventured off to find it. Mapquest sent us off H st and down some back street... which had us wondering. Then we wandered back a second time up front a second time. It took us a minute there was no name..but we found it. Cool points for real! We went up to the bar. Dark and full of character. Then back down to the back outdoor area. Shared a table and order some veggie potstickers and bun. The drinks looked super cool some with the big square ice cubes. The potstickers were thicker than I liked and lacked a lot of veggies and so did the bun but it was 420 so I just shrugged it off. Great spot great atmosphere. read more

This place is somewhere I frequent very often, and not once has it let me down. The concept of this place is custom everything. The drinks are changed every so often and the mixologists are so talented they continue to come up with new elixirs. If you let them know the notes you enjoy they'll make something on the fly for you that isn't on any menu anywhere. I often go this route. Service is amazing and everyone is so nice.
