We recently joined a few families for a celebration meal after an all day event. We called ahead to let them know approximately how many would be attending. There was about 25 of us ranging in age from 5-65. The owner greeted us made us feel welcome and set us up in a private area. He gave us his best wait staff who was friendly and helpful in guiding us to the best dishes on the menu. The menu is perfectly diverse. We honestly were a difficult bunch with 5 or 6 different checks and people not sitting in groups. She handled everything with ease. The food came out quickly and it was all delicious. way down from my orig. 5 star review. the sunday breakfast buffet wasn't so great. my OJ (from the machine) concealed about 8-10 bugs below the surface,...I drank half, (didn't see anything wrong) put it down,...it settled,...and then the floaters arrived. I have an iron stomach,....but that image of my OJ full of bugs haunts me. I DRANK HALF!!! so,... using math,..i must have swallowed about,..oh,....6-8 bugs. I paid my check and got out of there as fast as i could. its sad too because the whole brunch could have been, and was on track to be,...really excellent. its a quirk of the industry to bust your butt and put out 110% just to have something like what happened today ruin it all. very dis-appointing. and sad. the last 2 times i went it was 5 stars,....food,....service,...environment. ---everything. The first time I ate here was over 15 years ago and it was very very good. Most recently I went back and was so disappointed. Their pizza is okay. I ordered a seafood dish and it was way too heavy on the tomato sauce. Meh. I went back another time to try their lunch special. We went here with a large group without a reservation and we're very happy they were able to accommodate. The service was very good and we were consistently checked on as a table which I appreciate. I do have to say the appetizers were disappointing. We had the zucchini fries/sticks and there was literally one sliver of zucchini in them and a pound of bread if surrounding the sliver. I also didn't enjoy the consistency of the cheese in the fried mozzarella. With this being the first impressions of food I was nervous for our entrees. When the entrees came out they were steaming fresh and absolutely delectable. I had the eggplant rollatini which was more than enough for an entree but they also give you a side salad AND a side of spaghetti with marinara. So. Much. Food. I wish I was not traveling for work and staying in a hotel because those are the leftovers that dreams are made of. I had a baby shower here and they were wonderful to work with. They have lots of spaces to host events that feel private. I wasn't too familiar with the layout and they called me before the event to recommend a better space than the one I booked (because it was the only one I was familiar with). Let me start by saying that after my fist visit here and the food!.... I was hooked. I set up meetings with clients here and meet my best friends drinks here on a weekly basis. Family owned and run, small town feel. The staff is very friendly and make a point to remember your name and what you are drinking! I love this place! If you're planning on treating yourself to a nice meal, this isn't the place for you. My husband and I got the veal Marsala and salmon with mixed vegetables. The veal was fine, but the portions were not adequate considering the price of the meal. My mixed vegetables were disgusting and the salmon was dry and flavorless. Our salads were all stem pieces, so those were garbage. Needless to say, we will never go back to Coppola's...and if you're smart about how you spend money you will avoid them as well. read more

We love Coppolas! This has been a staple since I was a kid and my family used to go when we had company from out of town. It was a favorite of my Italian grandfather when he'd visit us from NYC. Got out of the habit of going for no particular reason and rediscovered Coppolas about a year ago. Every meal is great. The servers are polite and helpful and give great recommendations. Personally I always pick off the specials menu, always new flavor combination and twists on classic Italian! My personal favorite was salmon over a creamy garlic risotto with scallops! My husband and I went to Coppola's on Tuesday evening because we remembered they had fantastic linguine with white clam sauce many years ago. What a horrible experience. We ordered a clam patter appetizer which we couldn't eat. It tasted frozen and bland and when the waitress brought it to us, a clam fell off the plate upside down on the table. She picked it up and put it back on the table!!! The linguine was so salty we couldn't eat that either. I removed a clam from it's shell and bit down on what appeared to be a small pebble. Coppola's is cool! Ya know, the only times I've ever been here are for the holiday brunches they do and I come here with my family (lol family brunches). They have a HUGE selection of food, everything from rigatoni and mussels to eggs Benedict. It's pretty fabulous. You can bet there is a lot of time spent just staring at all the massive amounts of food since my eyes are always bigger than my stomach. *sigh* One section I tend to avoid: the desserts. Never that great during the buffet brunch. Everything is just dry and lacking in flavor so I just altogether avoid the desserts. Also, the servers don't seem happy ever. Why is this?! I guess it's stressful with all the people there but jeez, smile guys! I will come back at some point not during the fancy buffet and see how it is on a regular day. It is not as bad as some have said but it's certainly dated and the menu is totally old-school italian/american--complete with "Italian" themed clip art and embarrassing purposeful misspellings. ("Cleana the faca when a Youa Dona" is a kid's pizza--ugh) The food is not terrible, but it is a bit pricey for what you get. Sometimes the portions border on a bit small. I actually kind of like that it's so dated, sometimes it's comforting that things don't change. I go there when I am feeling nostalgic. The moment you walk in, you feel like you've accidentally stepped into a shop to look for caskets or urns. It's dark, dingy, and completely out-dated. The menu consisted of the typical "panini, pizza, pasta" and lacked any true grit or integrity of Italian food. Good for maybe a sandwich and beer, or any other meal you don't want to sit down for more than 20 minutes to eat. As soon as you get in you want to get out. I was invited to a bridal shower. I broke my ankle & had surgery-just prior to the party. I called days prior to ask about access for wheel chair. I was told there are a four or five steps. (no mention of a ramp) I struggled to get up the steps-hubby carried wheel chair up. (to find out there is a handicap ramp) The party was great but, it was very difficult to enjoy it, after the struggle to get in. (narrow hall ways) The bathroom, was not accessible-spring door that kept closing, a chair in the area to turn wheel chair, sink not access able. So, though the food was good, the staff were not very helpful, suggest /show us the ramp etc. esp. since I check prior. NOT customer friendly. I will be off my feet for about 8 weeks-NO way would i consider going back-esp. while I can't get around. I saw the ramp on the way out and used it... read more

Dinner ordered on line for pick up. Folks inside at desk had no idea and sent me into the bar. In the bar was an unmasked barman and a fellow sitting on a stool about 4 ft away without a mask. Why couldn't the fellows by the desk get my order. I did not sign up for an unmasked bar; I just wanted my food. ;-( As to the food, veal.very nice as well as mussels appetizer but bread was a bit sad and fairly tasteless. Then someone put a large piece of bread in with the mussels to suck up all the sauce and ruin itself in a gloppy mess. I did manage to squeeze most of the misdirected gravy out of the glop. Little thoughtless. Worst of all was Osso Bucco. Big ticket item for a big let down. I have had this when appropriately it was done and the meat tender and falling from the bone. This was not, as if parboiled, a bit tough and too tight together for well cooked Osso Bucco. Also great over dressed Cesar salad to contrast with three "no dressed" or forgotten to be dressed house salads. Wow! A tad sad! Some good, some bad, and some stupid. read more

I have previously read the reviews, I heard good things about the restaurant. Maybe they have a new cook, maybe it was an off day. I ordered Risotto that should be creamy, instead I had rice and broth. My father ordered stuffed shrimp and between both the risotto and the stuffed shrimp the wine was not properly cooked off all the way. Different restaurant s fill different needs. We can't all be temples of culinary excellence and that's ok. Hyde Park is in sad shape and there is really only the diner and Coppola's.... And neither are that great sadly. I'm giving them 4 stars because the family is very committed to the community. They run lots of fundraisers and employ a lot of local kids and that civic mindedness should count for something. I only eat there when it's a fundraiser and everything is a bit up and down. I ordered the most expensive menu item as a % went to charity and clearly this is not a place to order steak. That said I ordered a penny a la vodka to go and I enjoyed it days later. Service is poor but friendly and well meaning. Decor is a bit shabbyvand I had to sit next to the fish tank and watch the sad giant fish all night. We were both trapped. read more

We have been eating here for years and always had a decent meal. The mixed grill is my go to favorite. Unfortunately my last experience was lacking. The filet was probably the worst I've ever had. The rest of my dinner party later admitted that their meal was so-so at best. I will give them another chance, however it may be time to reassess our loyalty. read more

Had a birthday meal here on the 20th of Dec. I gave it one star because the only thing remotely good about this place was the waitress we had. The food was awful. My JUMBO stuff shells where medium COLD shells. They put one stale bread basket on a table for fourteen. Had to ask for more bread. Wine tasted cheap. Very unimpressive meals, the sauces had an odd taste and the color of one of them was a strange brownish color, fishy tasting and inedible. We had to send it back and tried something a little "safer" which contained burnt meatballs that looked like they were cooked on a barbecue, yet they still attempted to cover them with sauce and serve them anyway. It was a shame as the fees are slightly on the higher side. Luckily, the wait staff was pleasant and attentive. However, I cannot recommend this establishment. This place is fabulous! We stopped in for lunch and were amazed! We had the chicken parm sandwich, which was huge, and the eggplant calzone. It was the best, with smooth ricotta and mozzarella cheeses inside a large crust with superb marinara! We had visited the Vanderbilt Estate and were hungry for lunch. We drove by Coppola's and the parking lot was full so we took it as a good sign. It smelled good when we went in, but that's where the goodness stopped. I noticed two items on the menu that designated they were gluten free. I asked the waitress and she said confirmed, that was it for gluten free options. Most places will be more accomodating and make suggestions on how to 'tweak' other menu items (like order a burger with no bun). She did say it was only her 5th day on the job, so I can accept that she doesn't know the whole menu inside and out. The two items designated as gluten free were full blown dinners and ran $20. I didn't want to spend that much (or eat that much) on lunch, so I opted for the cold antipasto salad. On the menu it says it's served over pizza bread. I let the waitress know I wanted the peppers and anchovies on the side and NO bread. DH went with the hot antipasto. My meal came out, covered in peppers on top of pizza bread. I had to send it back. She promptly had another one made correctly. Neither of us were impressed with our meals. On a score of 1-10, we both agreed they were about a 4. Would we go back? No. We would have been happier at the diner across the street. read more

After a visit at the vanderbilt mansion my husband and i wanted a cocktail before that evenings concert at the mansion. After driving around a bit and finding nothing we came across Coppolas. We asked to sit outside because it was such a nice evening. The host and waitress were very friendly. Our waitress was phenomenal. She was quick and courteous and pleasant. We ordered the bloody mary with jumbo shrimp and a long island iced tea. Both were quite good. We also got the mozzarella wedges and the stuffed deviled clams which i have never heard of but yum. Everything was delicious and generously portioned for apps. The bread and oil were good too. The prices were very good and we walked away very happy. Great find! The only positive part about this restaurant was the delicious garlic bread sticks. Other than that, the food was sub par. I ordered the steak sandwich and was shocked to find a giant piece of cow on a roll that was half the size of the steak. Flavorless and extremely fatty, it was not worth the price at all. My husband ordered a personal pie and what he received looked and tasted like a chemical-filled Pizza Hut pizza. I am a local who has eaten here for lunch and dinner dozens of times, all with very good experiences. The bread is delivered warm,fresh ,water glasses kept filled. The waiter/waitresses do their jobs, lunch special are delicious and a great value. Dinners are usually more than I can eat, doggie bags needed. The tomato sauce is delicious, chicken Marsala the best I've had. Veal, seafood all were good when I've had them. We had christmas dinners catered from here, all to great reviews from our guests. Frankly, I cannot understand all the negative reviews. The decor may be traditional in the dining room, but do you really want "mall quality" Formica. Modern dinng architecture everywhere you go? I like an older family place. Bathrooms are clean, modern banquet hall hosts events and business dinners. If you want great italian food, go to coppollas . read more
