The only half-way decent Italian deli in the city. Seriously. Very decent meats and cheeses are served on your sandwiches here. It's a tiny spot, but near the cultural center of the Fan. If you live around here or are just passing through, it's a very decent place to get some lunch. The interior is actually quite authentic to a little dive spot in NYC. So, that felt like home. It's not really a place to hang around, but the outside seating in warmer weather is pleasant. There's a respectable beer selection in the fridge if you want something stronger to go with your sub. I write this review full of sadness. I've been eating at coppollas for most of my life. I used to wear the tshirt. When I moved out of town it was always my first stop when returning home. When friends were in from out of town it was the first place I'd take people. The sandwiches are hands down the best I've ever had and I've travelled all over the world and this country. The sandwiches have gotten really small not just this most recent visit but the last couple of times I was in. They used to be bulging with meat, cheese and veggies. I actually asked for extra cheese(which I wanted to pay for) this time and the cheese was scarce. I also noticed the cost of my sandwich went up. Which is fine. But don't have the cost go up and the amount of food go Down. read more

I have walked by Coppola's more times than I have fingers & toes, but have never had the chance to eat there. Well, today was that day and OHMYGOODNESS, it was everything I imagined it to be and more. First of all, the choices. Usually it would take me a bit to choose, but not today. I ordered the mushroom steak and cheese sub. It might be the best steak and cheese ever. The mushrooms were fresh and sautéed to perfection. The steak was delightfully seasoned and tender. Holding it together was this magical roll that was the perfect vessel for all of this goodness. This is the sandwich that all of the others wish they could be! Next time you are in the RVA, go by Coppola's and get ready to amazed. read more

My wife and I visited this place for the first time today. When we first entered, we were bombarded with delicious smells of toasting baguettes and sizzling deli meats caramelizing on a flatop grill. We walked past small tables brimming with tantalizing sandwiches. When we gazed up at the chalkboard menu, we were immediately confronted with a delightful dilemma. I ended up getting "the Industrial," their traditional Italian sub, while my wife opted for the "Mediterranean" chicken and pesto sub. With 2 bags of chips and fountain drinks, the tab came to $26. We dined al fresco along Cary street-always a good choice on a beautiful spring day. One negative: the deli pickles that came with our sandwiches were pretty bland. It could have just been a bad batch! Better luck next time. Verdict: eat here! The sandwiches are superb. Wow. Mighty fine sandwich. I'm about halfway through my first sandwich from Coppola's (the South Bronx) and it is delicious. The prospect of having leftovers for the 4th non-breakfast meal in a row sent me to Yelp to find a great lunch place nearby and Coppola's was at the top of the list - and rightfully so. Grant it, I've only had the one sandwich, but the entire menu looks amazing with great options for lunch and dinner. The place itself has seating inside with a few tables outside. Fast, personable service - even for noon on Sunday in Carytown! Ordered the Pizzaiola sandwich - good, but the marinara reminded me of Sloppy Joe sauce. Served with a pickle spear and very filling. The crowning achievement here was Coppola's Chef Salad. Well worth $8.99, the salad was loaded with a healthy-sized portion of lettuce, and deli-style cheddar, swiss and provolone cheeses, with turkey and ham rolled and sliced, to top it off. We couldnt compromise on what kind of food we wanted, so we settled for sandwiches. Coppola's makes good sandwiches that are a pretty good deal, but it didnt blow my mind or anything. It was just a fine meal. The interior of this restauraunt is cozy. The actual amount of seating seems very limited, but everyone else took their meals to go with them, and the food goes down fast, so I guess there isnt much of a need. Yelp recommended I try the South Bronx sandwich, so i did - its essentially a beefed- up reuben, for a much better price than the reuben they have listed on their menu. Its like a few bucks more, for a significantly larger portion. Youve had a reuben before, right? Thats what it tasted like, with the added bonus of being a good deal for a lot of food. I was impressed by their drink selection. Always a fan of the under-appreciated Dr. Browns soda, and this place had varieties I had never even heard of. It was very well suited for the sandwich. I liked my meal but it was not very memorable compared to other places i ended up eating in Richmond later. If my friends brought me here again, I would not be opposed, but I cant find myself coming here again on my own. A good meal. read more

Well all I can say is that I sometimes find myself in need of the "Industrial" sub from this place. The sandwiches are probably the best in town, due to the great tasting meats they use. Just on the corner from the Byrd theater. Recommendations: * Street parking can be hard at times, around the corner there is a free public parking deck. * Try the Industrial, or the Barnyard, they are my favorites. * I would not recommend bringing the kids, but people do it all the time anyway. I have eaten here since 1985. I order the smoked turkey most of the time, since I like it best. It used to be a great sandwich until they switched to Thurman's meat several years ago. I told them then that Thurman's turkey tasted like sawdust- nothing like the higher quality meat they had before. Every year I go back to try this sandwich, hoping I will get to like Thurman's but I am disappointed each time. I also agree that the sandwiches have less filling in them. Oh well, I guess you can't turn back the clock!! Their cheesecake is excellent, but ask if it is fresh. Tonight, for the first time, I got one that wasn't- and it's too expensive for that. read more

Every time I go to Coppola's I vow I'm going to try something new, but every time I step up to the counter I order the same thing: the cheese columbo with artichoke hearts. It is my favorite...melted cheese folded in with grilled onions and hot and sweet peppers. They melt the cheese on the grill until a crust forms, and then they put it on a roll with lettuce, tomatoes, oil and vinegar and artichoke hearts. YUM! read more

Today, I got the chance to grab some lunch at Coppola's Deli.I ordered the South Bronx Club. The South Bronx Club included corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut. The meat on the sandwich was good quality. The sub was fresh and hot! The combination of meats and cheese blended very well. I really enjoyed the sub, so much I will be back soon to get another South Bronx Club. The portion size of the sub was average. I was expecting a bigger sandwich.I had the Sanpellegrino fruit soda, very tasty and flavorful. Being a dessert fiend, I brought the chocolate waffle cookie. They are addicting! Very light and tasty.Coppola's Deli is a smaller restaurant .They have a couple tables set up throughout for customers to eat. There's street parking around the restaurant and a free public parking deck a block away. The staff was friendly and the service was pretty fast. Coppola's has been in my Yelp bookmarks for about two years and the stars all finally aligned so I was able to go while I was hungry, and in the area, and they were open. I agree with another reviewer who said that as soon as you walk in, it smells like a great deli...definitely picked up the hunger-inducing sandwich and deli foods aroma. I took a few minutes to soak in the menu and ordered an Industrial from the guy behind the counter, grabbed a cream soda and sat down at a table. Five to ten minutes later my sandwich was brought to me and looked great. As hoped and expected, it also tasted great. Beyond the classic Italian deli meats, the Industrial has melted provolone, lettuce tomato and some hot/sweet peppers. The peppers were great on this sandwich, giving it the extra shot of flavor that takes a sandwich from good to great. The roll was also fresh and warm, with just the right level of chew. I got a side of potato salad for $0.99 and they included a pickle. Now that I've been, I'm anxious to come back and sample the rest of the menu. I really enjoyed a lunch here with my friend last weekend. We had just finished walking around the town and were ready for a quick bite before I had to leave to go home. The inside is really cute and authentic Italian deli style. Not much seating inside, nice for sitting outside though. I got the Mediterranean sandwich. It came with cucumber, tomato, lettuce, LOTS of fresh feta cheese and seasoned with a delicious vinaigrette. It was the perfect portion too, not too big or leaving you uncomfortably full. I've been meaning to go to lunch here and got the opportunity today. I'm from NYC and have been to the big name delis in NYC Katz ,Carnegie and such. I needed to try coppolas to see how it was since it so hard to find a good deli in the region. IE went to Padows for a Pastrami on rye one time and got Pastrami that wasn't thicker than my credit card on rye. First off for my first time here I wasn't familiar with their heros The guy at the iPad wasn't much help all he cared about was taking the order and not being helpful at all. So if you go know what you want you might not get much help from the person at the counter/iPad. I ordered the industrial hero ,this is basically an Italian, my son got the turkey provolone. The heros are served hot unless told not too make it hot (I guess since nobody was helpful) usually I'll come to a deli order a hero ie:Turkey type of cheese on a hero with Mayo, lettuce, tomato, oil vinegar etc etc etc. Here every hero is made a specific way and if you don't want something on said hero you have to let them know. We got chips and a drink with our heros. They bring the heros to your table if you are eating in. The heros were well made and comes with a side pickle. The fast was very good but I wasn't floored. It's a good eat but not for my style. I usually like an overstuffed hero with the meat falling off the hero. Here the meats centered and held together with a toothpick. All in all it was a decent sandwich but not one I'd go out of my way to eat. Atmosphere was good nice little place with outdoor seating and ample seating inside. Another very disappointing experience from this place. We ordered from here last year and it was really bad experience. Management contacted stating that they had a management change and that they are making changes. Year later we decided to place order from here to give it another try. It again was a large order for about 10 people. One sandwich we stated no cheese (half a sandwich had cheese and half didn't), 3 pasta orders supposed to have bread stick and none of it came with it. One pasta's sauce leaked everywhere. Food tasted better for the sandwiches. Pastas are just so so. Not sure if the sandwiches are worth the price since it doesn't come with any sides except a slide of pickle. Pasta is definitely not worth the price. I can get something much better for $15. I walked by Coppola's about once a week for the past six months without trying it... but no more. On my boyfriend's insistence we went in and... WOW. The smell of Italian meats, cheeses and onions cooking on the grill just hits your nose. I ordered an Industrial and OMG what a spicey/yummy sandwich. It was this crazy mix of grilled meats and cheese to make an amazing Italian sub. My boyfriend practically devoured his sandwich. Rueben sandwich is ok.... For 9 dollar sandwich I thought it would be bigger. The worst apart of the place isn't the food, it was good. I eat out a lot and Im understanding to the service industry. I work at a restaurant one day week to keep grounded. I don't go around calling people discriminatory liberally. The two times I went in I got a foul look from the guy behind the counter. I was ignored and other people were helped before me. When I asked a question about my order before I could get it out the kid barked at me it will be out soon and went back to what he was doing. I had a friend who used to work here and slip me free sandwiches on the sly so I had a unique chance to try a variety of their options, all of which were delicious. The cuts of meat are quality, the bread is fresh, the toppings are crisp, and the staff is made up of a fine selection of young men who will give you something to look at while they're getting your sandwich ready. overall:4.5, the only reason it doesnt get 5 is because its a bit pricey for a deli. i LOVE this place. the first time i went i was a little unsure. i had the caprese sandwich. there was something off about it. i think a little too bland for my liking and im generally a huge fan of caprese sandwiches. now lets move on to the cheese colombo..oh my god. pure cheesey yummy goodness. i get it everytime and i have NO complaints. the chese gets perfectly burnt but still melty and the oil and vinegar just sets it off. the bread is delicious and the food seems to be of high quality. i would recmmend this to vegetarians and meat eaters because its just so damn good. boyfriend always gets the philly cheesesteak and has never had a complaint about it. all in all, awesome food, great location, friendly staff! if you havent been here you NEED to go. now. read more

I really don't understand how I have lived in Richmond for almost a year and have only just now discovered Coppola's. I mean, I have heard the talk. But being a NY native I was skeptical about there being a true Italian style Deli in Richmond.
