The food was excellent, and delicious in a superior sort of way. The ribs were superlative, the sides, excellent. Pretty much self-service except that they bring the food out to your table. Very nice people, too, who work hard. And why not? They have to prove themselves every day, not an easy task: Prices were as expected; the quality of the food was off-the-chart excellent. Here's what we liked: The brisket was outstanding! Just the way I like it: moist, tender and fatty. The fries were really good and would have been even better with malt vinegar. The fried okra was nice and crispy. Not quite my grandmother's southern version and a long wait, but worth the try. The coleslaw was well done. Not too much mayo and not that odd, funky taste mass produced slaw can have. Here's what we didn't care for: My husband got the pork ribs which were really tender, but had a strong porky flavor which neither of us cared for. He also got a side of pulled pork that lacked flavor in its own. The bbq sauces are likely not house made. They were kinda gooey with an odd aftertaste that made us think they are from Cisco foods or similar. The prices are pretty high, but it's Scottsdale I suppose. Absolutely AMAZING experience!! Anyone and everyone needs to try this place. Everything we had was SO good -- we got the pulled pork, tri-tip, beef brisket, potato salad, fried okra, and sweet tea, and genuinely loved all of it. The meat was delicious and cooked perfectly, the sides were amazing, and the sweet tea was seriously so good. Derek helped us, who I believe is the owner, and he made the whole experience even better. He was so friendly and helpful, took the time to explain everything to us, and made us feel so welcome. We were talking about how good the beans looked but had already picked our two sides, and he ended up giving us the beans too! He also hooked us up with extra BBQ sauce and pickles to take home. Such a genuinely nice guy and you can tell he really cares about his customers and the food he serves. Went here during lunch hour. There were several groups sitting eating and one other couple in line. I ordered the Double meat platter. The proteins I got were smoked chicken and moist brisket. The brisket was smoky and really good! I dipped it in the original sauce which was great. The smoked chicken was good but brisket was better. The coleslaw side you get is a lot and it was good. The Mac n cheese was cheesy and solid. I also got a sweet tea with it and that went really well with the entire meal. I want to go back and try some of the other items in the near future. read more

Delicious Arizona style BBQ with fresh made sides was a treat during our Phoenix trip. I appreciated the warm service and the ability to choose moist or dry cuts of brisket. The brisket was tender and juicy, and the sauces (original and sweet) were solid. I enjoyed the fried okra side but wish it had been served with a ranch style sauce - instead I dipped it in the original BBQ sauce which was an ok combo. It seems that they are open earlier than ready, but not withstanding the wait for our food, it's a place we recommend and will return to. This was a former Dicky's, but the food is much improved. Don't miss the brisket and the fries. Sadly we didn't get to sample the burnt ends but I'm sure they will be great. Probably weekends only. The beans have a lot meat in them and were very good. The only miss for us was the tri tip but that's not something we usually try, so our opinion could be too critical. We decided to try this place out based on stellar reviews. These reviews did not line up with our experience. The pulled pork was unlike any pulled pork we have had in all regions of the USA including the Carolinas and Tennessee. They did not pull the pork. Instead they chopped it and included many inedible pieces of rind and fat. The beans were an amalgam of chopped meat and beans rendered into a past like consistency with a bitter burned aftertaste. There are plenty of better places in the Valley. We will cross this off our list. read more

A friend of mine who's a bbq aficionado told me to try this spot out. Glad he did. Probably the best barbecue I've had since leaving Missouri almost 30 years ago! Tried pretty much everything on the menu and all are outstanding. My favorites are probably the brisket which is juicy with an amazing bark, the pulled pork and the ribs. The sides are all homemade and you can tell, bbq beans, and mac & cheese were my favorite, but all are definitely worth trying. Terrific homemade barbecue sauces, the standouts to me were the spicy (rattler) sauce and the copper state tangy mustard sauce. I visited and ate at Copperstate this past weekend and was really impressed. I ordered the brisket sandwich "moist", with fries, and a sausage link. All were great. The crust on the brisket was crazy good. None of the flavors are overpowering on the meat, which allowed me to taste the actual meat which was outstanding. Definitely some great BBQ flavor, it just wasn't overpowering in a good way. I also tried the pulled pork, and although it was jus the tiniest bit on the dry side it was completely amazing. Now I do love BBQ sauce so after trying my brisket dry, I dumped the whole serving of "Spicy" BBQ sauce on my sandwich along with the pickled onion, sliced jalapenos, and fresh dill pickles, all which I believe were homemade on premises, the best I can tell. I would also guess the fries are hand cut, and they were outstanding. I also tried the Mac & Cheese, and this was the only mediocre thing I had. It was very standard, and with little taste. The gentleman that waited on us, I assume the owners as they prepared all the food, were so friendly. They definitely seem like good dudes and were very welcoming. The dining area is tiny, so if you have a large party there is only one large table in the dining area. For beverages, there was Coke products, and no beer or alcohol that I noticed. This is definitely a great BBQ place that I'll be returning to and I would recommend trying it out. read more

While visiting my sister in Phoenix, we stopped here for dinner. We tried multiple things off the menu but all of the food was amazing! Our favorites were the moist brisket, beans, hand cut french fries, and the apple pastry dessert. Not only was everything hot, but it all tasted amazing. We went this place today. the best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. I personally didn't order one because usually they are fatty & wet. I ordered one of their specials the sloppy Joe.. Delicious.. I took a bite of my husband's pulled pork sandwich and kept a quarter of it., it was perfect, sauce on the side "the original" the pork was soft and tasteful with crispy ends.
