Came here recently because I haven't been in a while! I ordered the Earll grey iced tea and it was horrific! It tasted very old! It was either the ice or the tea. I gave it another chance but the results were still the same. Very upsetting and wasted my money. In addition, the shop seems to be neglected. I have been to Copper Star Coffee countless times in the short time I've been in Phoenix. The absolute best bagels in Phoenix. The flavors are unmatched and the sandwiches are delicious. My go-to is the Frankenstein bagel which is a combination of everything and jalapeño cheddar. On the other hand, my friend gets the sun-dried tomato bagel. Both are great choices! Also, the coffee!! There are sooo many flavors that it is a huge challenge to actually taste all of them. I work night shifts and I always picked up a coffee from Copper Star before. The only downside is that you have to come early in the morning. I came in the afternoon on a weekend and there was only sun-dried tomato bagel with strawberry cream cheese available. definitely not the move. come early and come hungry! Parking can be a real pain as their drive-thru is tight and wraps behind the parking which is set near the dumpster so you can get stuck if you park by the restaurant vs the street until someone wants to let you out - even then you gotta wiggle by lol (hence the 4 vs 5 stars) Lots of local walk ups and dog friendly so it can get really busy - just be prepared for waiting if you come at a busy time but they move fast. read more

Best coffee I've found yet in Phoenix and the bagel breakfast sandwiches are excellent, They accommodate veg/vegan seamlessly. I can walk there and it's my go to place to work during the week. It's nuts on the weekend so be prepared to wait. This is/was our first visit to Copper Star Coffee and certainly won't be our last (even though we don't live here) thank you to Mars and the kind gentleman that was wearing a light blue sweater (didn't get his name) but you both are amazing with your stellar customer service! So this review is based off of our services we received via drive thru! They don't have a speaker box system so you'll be greeted by lovely faces and smiles! Mars approached us so genuinely (we are from out of town; CA & NY) and have us the lowdown of their menu and how their bagels and pastries are baked onsite by them! we opted for bagels as we were starving! They handled our order graciously, not a beat was missed (we got 4 coffees and 5 bagels)! Our order came out correct and still warm and it's just a cutest spot, prob my fave local spot we found this weekend! Not a bad bagel coming from AZ (from my NY family)...KUDOS Anyway, see you guys probably in an hour for another visit...hahaha! This place is so special. The highlight is the staff, who are all uber kind and go the extra mile for customers. Copper Star is an inclusive, hip and trendy gas station or car repair shop turned cafe in the heart of artsy Phoenix. Plenty of tables indoors and out make it a good spot for meeting up with friends or working. The staff is really knowledgeable about what syrups and other speciality coffee ingredients are vegan and helped me customize a drink that tasted like a cinnamon roll (which they used to have on their menu when I was ... eeek, in high school and visited often). They offer great vegan pastries - the best I've had in Phoenix. And some menu staples for lunch are vegan as well. I love love love Copper Star Coffee! Honestly, the best coffee I have ever tasted- surpasses Black Rock, Starbucks, Dutch bros, and some smaller coffee places I've been to! I love their Cubano coffee! It tastes AMAZING hot but also amazing when it's iced. I've tried their BLT sandwich and their hummus, onions, and tomatoes bagel. The BLT sandwich had a very healthy amount of bacon and it came with a side of corn mixed with beans!!! Their Hummus was toasty and more elevated than I expected. The service here is amazing! I really wanted to love this place especially because I was told they had good bagels, and as an east coast transplant I miss easy to find great bagels. I ordered an everything bagel with egg and cheese, and a mocha latte. The bagel was just okay, egg was cooked well and cheese was nice and melted, but the bagel while not bad was a bit on the dryer side and overdone. Mocha tasted off - perhaps it was the milk, regardless it was not great. It was busy the day I went and they were very timely with orders, inside seating is limited but there is outside seating with misters. I wouldn't be against trying their coffee again but the bagel sandwich was not for me. I still recommend coming and trying it to see if your taste buds have a different opinion. read more

This place is just the absolute best. I don't know why it's taken me years to visit but I'm so glad I finally did because it's now become my favorite spot. The service is superb. They treat my dog like royalty lol and the food is incredible. I recommend the cubano coffee, the tropical smoothie and any of their bagels, but especially the Frankenstein! I love supporting small local coffee shops and this one did not disappoint. The shop was a charming one -- once a gas station and now remodeled into a functional coffee shop! There was a line even on a later-than-normal weekday morning, so you know this is where it's at. I went later in the morning at ~7am, but they do open as early at 5am; perfect for when you need an early start, but don't want to be starving on your drive. I ordered a *Lavender Mocha* as well as a *Breakfast Bagel* on my quick stop here. They don't mess around and make sure to stock a variety of bagels. The bagels are massive too, so the breakfast bagel with scrambled eggs and ham (I held the American cheese) was the real deal for $5.18. Splendid! The Lavender Mocha was as solid as ever and made with tender loving care by an ever-friendly staff. It was only a dash of lavender with heavy chocolate-y notes. They have other breakfast items/ sandwiches on the menu and everything is made-to-order. This extremely cute coffee house is amazing for a date, a meeting or some self reflection time. The decor is super cute and guess what they have a patio that great for social distancing ... I showed up here on a suggestion of a business associate that I was meeting to go over schemes and dreams for future community development along light rail corridors and boy was I delighted! First I ran into someone I knew who was biking the area (bike parking) secondly I ran into some fellow localists that really push local business ownership (great local business owner culture) and third thing, it just happened to be my first visit so they revised me with a FREE lemon tart that tasted divine!!! The staff is friendly and unhurried. There is plenty of seating with options inside, in front and in back. There were even friendly little birds that came up to my plate and ate crumbs from it. I'd been hearing about Copper Star Coffee for a long time, and I was excited that I finally got the chance to try it. There were some things I liked and some things that weren't so great. Service was great, really friendly and prompt. There's a decent amount of street parking and seating inside and out. There are large tables, bar seating, and couches. This cafe used to be an old gas station, so it has that rustic feel yet is remodeled on the inside. The menu boasts of interesting items like lavender lattes and handmade italian cream sodas. Wifi is free and pretty reliable, no spotty areas or dropped connections as far as I could tell. The biggest con for me was the smell. Copper Star serves food items as well as drinks and pastries, and this was apparent from the moment I walked in. There was a savory, smoky smell that permeated the entire inside and made my clothes smell like it even after I'd left (I'd studied there for a couple of hours, but it was very noticeable). It wasn't the kind of smell that went away either.. my senses didn't really adjust to it and it seemed to be wafting. I'd hazard a guess that it was their ham because it reminded me of smoked ham split pea soup, but it wasn't pleasant and irritated my throat a bit. Chai latte: This chai is made in-house, but it is pre-sweetened and was on the sweet side for me. There wasn't that nice kick of spiciness at the end that I prefer in my chais, and overall the spices were on the mild side. I also asked for extra hot and this came out closer to room temperature, which was disappointing. If you like milder, smooth, and creamy chais, this would be for you. Peanut butter cookie: This was a ginormous cookie, and I thought it was made pretty well. It was chewy and flavorful, and I think it's hard to get that balance because peanut butter can so often be chalky. It also wasn't too sweet, and the peanut butter struck a nice balance to the sweetness. Italian cream soda: The raspberry lemon cream soda had a pretty color, and I liked that you could see the cream dispersing on top. I'm not sure if they use lemonade or lemon juice, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't lemon syrup because the dairy separated quite quickly and looked like it was beginning to curdle. It almost reminded me of the beginnings of making buttermilk, which makes me think it was lemon juice or lemonade. I'm also not positive whether it was milk or half and half or heavy cream, but either way, it looked quite chunky and viscous rather than a cream soda a few minutes in. Overall I'm on the fence about whether I'd return. I can definitely see why a lot of people love Copper Star, and I might give it another shot if I'm in the area. read more

Really cute little coffee shop, I went the other day thru the drive thru. At the drive thru there is a general menu, it does not include flavors so I just asked the guy who took my order what flavors he recommended so I ordered a half hazelnut / half vanilla iced latte. At this drive thru the employees take your orders in person and bring out your drinks. My iced coffee did take a bit to get but the employees were all very friendly and nice the entire time so I didn't mind. The iced latte was a bit bitter coffee but very good still.
