Unfortunately, the citrus bundt cake at Copper Leaf would feature on my personal list of the worst things I ate this month. It was stodgy, acrid, and slightly stale, and even the icing didn't do much to uplift the experience. My husband took me to Copper Leaf Bakery for a relaxed brunch spot in Harlem, and I was excited to try somewhere that didn't require trekking deeper into Manhattan. We got there around 2 PM, just in time for a laid-back afternoon café vibe. Food: 3/5 The menu leans more less is more and isn't the most flexible, which made things a bit tricky for me with dietary restrictions. I tried to customize something simple like avocado toast--swapping eggs and removing certain items--but the POS system couldn't really accommodate those changes, which led to some back-and-forth. That said, my husband really enjoyed his chicken soup--he said it was warm, comforting, and full of flavor. For me, the baked goods were a bit underwhelming for the price. I got a pretzel croissant that was over $5, and while it was fine, the portion (about palm-sized) didn't quite justify the cost. Overall, not bad food--but not somewhere I'd go out of my way for, especially with limited customization. Service: 3.5/5 Service was friendly, but you could tell the system limitations made things a bit awkward when trying to adjust orders. Nothing rude--just not the smoothest experience if you need modifications. Vibe: 4/5 This is where the place really shines. The bright white subway tiles make the space feel clean, open, and inviting. It's definitely still a New York café--so space is tight--but it works well for two people. I wouldn't recommend it for bigger groups or strollers, but for a casual catch-up, it's a cozy and pleasant spot. All in all, I probably wouldn't come back specifically for the food, but I would return for a latte and a chill place to sit and chat. So cute! Bright and clean and so nicely appointed. They have lots of live plants and the most adorable brass hooks on the walls in a variety of animal designs and other shapes. A few tables are designated as no-laptop zones to preserve space for people who wish to dine, solo or with companions. Food is served quickly and is fresh. We had a delicious green (asparagus? I forget now) soup that I see is no longer on the menu but Im looking forward to trying the beet soup that replaced it. Also had the Pickled Beet & Gouda Tartine and it was fantastic. read more

Nice, but overpriced. I can see what they're trying to do here, with table service, high quality pastries, a clean and bright space, but even with all that, something about the experience felt a little lacking- there's just no way I can be a regular at a place that sells an $8.50 chocolate croissant, so I don't know who this café is aimed at. I will admit that my friend got a beet toast that was really outstanding in both flavor and presentation, but I wish it felt more like a spot for the neighborhood. read more

As a rituals loving girly, I was really hoping to not like this place because pastries and cozy beverages are a debility. Too bad I loved it in here. Super cute decor with ample space to sit to have a bite in what appears to be a relaxing atmosphere, plus friendly service. Staff members seem to have a dress code which also gives it a more formal upscale vibe. While they have a full breakfast + lunch menu, I was looking to grab a quick something to go so had a matcha and the Mexican Street Corn Tart. The price ($6) was awesome for a savory complex tasting pastry. They were able to tell me exactly what was in it upon asking at the counter, which I appreciated. Sorry, I can't remember the full details but please know it was delightfully unexpected and very flavorful. I got to share a few bites with my sister and niece who enjoyed it as well. My matcha was smooth with no clumps. I am sure they are working out some kinks as a newly opened place so please remember to be kind and offer grace :). They were a bit busy on an early Saturday afternoon but seemed to be moving as fast as they could. Look forward to visiting Copper Leaf again! read more

Nice to see this new pretty Copperleaf Bakery/Café on FDB, which just opened a couple of weeks ago. Came in for a Matcha Latte and snack. They have a number of interesting pastries, so tried their Clotted Cream Fig Danish. Grabbed a table amongst a number of customers here working off their wifi. The Danish, with mini flowers particles sprinkled on top, was tasty. The Matcha, however well decorated with the milk, still had clumps of matcha powder. Perhaps with time, those barista drink skills develop. Oddly, after handing back my cup and plate on my way out, the barista asked me if I wanted a glass of water. Guess it would have been great to offer when he handed me the tea. On the whole, good competition if you're considering Starbucks given they seem about the same price, maybe a bit more expensive, but more elevated. That being said, given I live close and it is a little pricey, not likely I'll be coming here on a regular basis - however, I'd recommend trying it out if that's something your up for. Very nice interior. Just popped in for some coffee but the food looked good and seemed reasonably priced. The cashier was very nice. Had a salted caramel latte which was nice and salty, very good. The Irish cream cold brew just had whipped cream on cold brew so it was a little lacking. read more

Big fan. My kinda joint. Huge add to Harlem. Bakery is excellent. Constantly rotating items and they're always good. Makes you want to go back to see what they've added. Brunch items are really good, too. Like really, really good. Egg sandwich stellar. Coffee always fresh and tasty. Service always nice. Very reasonably priced. Even have a bar if you went brunch cocktails or an early happy hour bev. Friendly neighborhood spot all the way around. read more

Terrible coffee; loud atmosphere; horrible owner. The owner got ugly when I was in there quietly sipping coffee. She comes over in a smock and starts asking questions, telling me that I'm in a "laptop-free" zone which would have been fine except there was a guy with a laptop in the exact same area. If she had bother to have enough manners to introduce herself instead of immediately peppering me with questions. Completely unprofessional. Nobody needs to be paying for bad coffee while being disrespected. read more

Equally good for a decadent brunch (the eggs benedict are truly exceptional, on a housemade English muffin that makes me want to write a poem about an English muffin? it's never happened before) -- and for a work session. Strong, unlimited wifi; excellent coffee and specialty drinks; beautiful pastries. Atmosphere is lovely; staff is kind and when I got on a funny days-long run ordering the one item they happened not to have, they always made it right with good humor and one time, a free Linzer cookie (which was, of course, delicious). I was there for the soft-opening, and the space, food and service was really great. Had some great everyday eats like croissants and egg sandwiches but everything was freshly made.
