A step above your typical dive cause it has a lot more space then you'd think- 2 pool tables, 3 dart boards, a shuffleboard, 2 room areas and an intricate little fire pit sitting arrangement. The drinks are fairly priced and made right I wouldn't really recommend it for a huge group because it gets packed weekends and though there is plenty to occupy you- usually it's all booked up for hours. Wow, did we have fun here. Work friends often go here but I never joined them until tonight. A group of about a dozen or so of us showed up. Some friends I hadn't seen in a few months, some I just saw this afternoon. The bar is great. Funky neighborhood dive bar type of place but packed with friendly people. Some of the other reviews say the place smells of old beer - well it IS an old bar but it smelled just fine to me. Drinks are super cheap = like half what you'd pay in Hollywood. Lots of games to play - pool, darts, shuffleboard. Nice patio outside for the smokers. Lots of regulars but I didn't feel out of place as a first-timer at all. Third time going on Friday night. Cheap drinks which is cool. Bartender took our drinks at 1:37am. I asked why he was taking it and he said, "have you ever been to a bar before? I saw that someone was shot at a few weeks ago at the Copper Bucket. There was caution tape set up along with several police officers stationed right outside. I personally have only been there once, but would never revisit. When I went it was age mixed crowd, however not mixed on ethnicities. It took forever to get a drink and I waited so long over 20 minutes... Granted there was only one person, but it wasn't that crowded. While I was waiting I met a man with no middle teeth. He asked me how I heard about the place... If I heard they had cheap drinks. I said no, but thanked him for informing me. He then said its good for the youth to come in because the regulars can't just keep it afloat. He then asked me again how I heard about the place and I told him a friend invited me... Then he said we usually don't get any "coloreds" in here. Yes he called me colored! I don't think he meant anything by it and it was his vocabulary. I stumbled into this dive as I was waiting for my take out from the Italian rest. next door. This is a perfect example of "you get what you pay for". If you go to a bar in Hollywood and your drink is $10-$15 chanses are the place cost about 1/2 million to put together, at this place the drinks are about $3 and it looks like it cost $500 to put this place together... Kind've wanna give it like a high 2, maybe a 2.75 / 3.00 but just can't... So been here with friends a few times. More like dragged cause it's never been me that chooses it. As for the good... there's a ton of darts, pool table and shuffle board action going on... and the DRINKS ARE DIRT CHEAP. They've got mini-pitchers (3-4 beers worth) for $5-$9 which is a bargain. Can't really beat that. Most basic mixed drinks (rum & coke, vodka+cran) are in the $3-$6 range, which is dirt cheap. My problem with the place is while you know it's a dive bar going in... the crowd is usually... relatively lame. It's a mix with some different varieties of 20-somethings. However... there is quite a few older people here who are always here which drops it down a star or so. Nothing like trying to talk with friends or some chill girls and then random 40-50 year olds try to jump in the conversation -___- All in all it's almost a 3 (average place) for me... it's just the crowd is usually lame/lacking and a few times they've run out of beers on tap relative early (before 11pm). This is a true dive. But they have liquor. I walked in one ill fated night and was immediately introduced to a plethora of characters- a real biker dude, pornstars, and various other characters. Wait, this biker was trying to throw up motorcycle club affiliations too? It was a little startling. I love dives, but I usually prefer the dives in areas where I don't feel like I'll get shot in the parking lot. I gave my odds here 50-50. This cash only bar is quick with the service and pretty cheapo but I just kept thinking to myself that if it were located in Newport Beach or Hermosa Beach this would be such a better crowd. I come here with a few buddies and have a great time. I think it's more empty on the weekdays while on the weekends it can be hard to get a place to sit if you're with a group. I went to this place for the first time yesterday to check it out and I wasn't impressed. The place is supper small and its awkward using the bathrooms that are a little closet. (also very dirty with holes in the walls) The outside and inside look very old and are very old. The only good thing was the cheap drinks. I must say I felt SO embarrassed and bad for my poor cousin who I was trying to show a good time to along with meeting a friend of mine for our graduation mini celebration. I brought along my cousin who is 34 years old by the way but forgot her ID at home (she didn't know where I was pulling her off to). We walked in with no problem and weren't planning on drinking since I was driving and she doesn't like too. They told us they'll card you at the bar so we were like oh okay no problem. Again, since we weren't drinking we were just minding our own business having a good time, playing darts and what not. Out of the blue, pop comes out the owner; he comes up to us (my cousin and I) and asked if we had our ID. I thought that was weird because we didn't buy anything and no one carded us at the door. We apologized that she didn't have hers, he then told us we needed to leave because he had a feeling that uncover cops would be coming into his bar and start asking for ID's. We were only there for maybe 20 minutes at most and may I add we were the only 2 black people in the bar. The majority was Caucasian and Hispanic, she felt that her big afro hair ha ha caused us to stand out. Will I be returning? Probably not, no matter how "cheap" their drinks are. read more

Copper Bucket get a 4+ rating for being a decent neighborhood bar. There's nothing fancy here; not the drinks, the decor or the vibe. The prices are what a bar should be. You won't pay more than $5.00 for a call drink. The beer on tap could use some variety, but they have dozens of bottled brands to choose from. I don't know what anyone means by "rough" crowd. I've been here dozens of time and have never experienced anything near rough.
