The first morning of my vacation I reached for my contact lenses only to find I have brought double for my left eyes and none for my right! This had the potential to make for a long and uncomfortable holiday. But after speaking to Dr. Shahinian's assistant, Arilys, it was determined that replacements could be gotten to me by the next day before 12 Noon! I have been a happy patient since moving to the area two years ago. My examinations are though, prescriptions are accurate and my orders are seamless and easy. I've only had 2 checkups with them thus far, one in 2018, and the other very recently in 2021, and both times, all my needs were addressed with warmth, professionalism, specificity and care, that was very helpful to my needs (general checkups, prescriptions, glasses, etc.). My insurance isn't taken at Sylvan (c'mon now, AmeriHealth, get it together), but I'd rather still go here for regular checkups, prescriptions, etc. What a great crew. Office is super clean and chic. Staff are professional & courteous. And the docs are fantastic. Everyone at Sylvan seems like they listen attentively, pay attention, enjoy the work they do, and baseline care about their patients. Def going back in the future so long as I'm in the area.

They have a wide array of eyewear, although I'm not a fan of the selection (much of what I've seen are plastic frames and unfamiliar brands with high tags). I purchased contact lenses, which comes with a contact lens comprehensive exam. As like the frames, the lenses were pricy. The facility has onsite parking and appointments have always been relatively easy to book and run on-time (longest wait time I experienced ~5-10 mins).

Unfortunately, the eyeglass prescription I received was dated to expire on the very same day of my appointment. This basically made the prescription unusable. Maybe it was a mistake or oversight. Given the comments from the optometrist, however, I am given to feel that it may have been intentional. Whatever her personal feelings, I do not feel that I got what I paid for. It also seems to speak of a shortfall in professionalism, as this was her work product.

During my vision exam, Dr Kim was very thorough in her questions. Her associate, Kiara, was very patient with me during my appointment (it was my first time trying on contacts). They do charge a fee for the contacts training. I believe that's standard (but as people below noted, the fee is quite high at $70). They do provide trial lenses though and a follow up appointment included in the fee. In terms of their collection of glasses and contacts, they don't have a ton of variety but they can probably order other glasses to their store. I don't really think the negative reviews are justified. I received good service and I would continue coming back here. I think the optometrist is good and the staff is organized and professional.
