Look guys, we all get it losing your AC in the midst of Summer is every Texans own personal internal hell. Being held captive in a hot house with the still Texas Summer heat is brutal and we all know that is putting it mildly. I want to respond to the Nay-sayers on a few posts here. First of all, the new Operations Manager is Barbara and this woman is AMAZING! Don't have any experience with the former lady. WOW!!! Talk about taking ownership and taking it personal about making sure my HWA warranty wasn't lost in the shuffle of the Home Warranty of America company holding myself, and family hostage in a sweltering home in the summer. Let's just say HWA delays lasted 27 days nearly the entire month of May. It was getting hot. Thank God I live in an established neighborhood with many extensive trees that cast a ton of shade or it would have been UGLY!!! Thank God for Barbara who took calls on weekends, texted me regularly throught out the day, took her laptop to her child's baseball game to try and submit emails to HWA about my claim after her defined work hours. Yes we talked on the phone whilst she was at her daughter's softball game. Talk about comittment. She only put the phone down when he daughter was at bat. Talk about committment. She got on base by the way. Barbara took this situation very seriously, She escalated calls emails to Directors and Supervisors and was very communicative along the way. We stayed on hold with HWA so much it literally cost me hours of my time per week to try and keep them on their toes. Please understand that if you have issues with the delay in working with HWA claims around cooling concerns... IT"S NOT Cool Masters fault. I witnessed the debaucle first hand after like my own personal 5th and not final time calling ( seriously lost count) into the Authorization department. During this call with HWA, I was told there was a delay from the Authorization Department of 5-7 mins. That delay really equated to an hour and 10 minute way. Mind you this was after a 57 minute on hold wait time the day prior and I was just calling to check the status. The HWA program is rampant with lack of ownership of any of their employees to resolve anything. Their idea of help is passing an email and hoping someone reads it and then decide to resolve, authorize or pass the buck. It's a vicious cycle. I lost count as to how many time Barbara of Cool Masters and myself lost time and lost days waiting for authorizations for replacement parts to be released at the authorized part location for us to be installed. Their bumbling and ineptitude literally cost me and my honey about $3000 in lost wages ( I'm in finance and he's a Union Electrician so it cost us extra money) in awaiting appointments for them to release installers with the appropriate unit to be released. During this time Barbara kept up her end of the deal and then some. She communicated with me daily if not more than once a day to lay status of my claim and shared with me that sadly this is the same fate for many others. Unfortunately, not many as proactive, tenacious and persistent as I. I made it my mission for myself to engage the company and see the man truly behind the curtain at HWA. Sadly it was worst than Oz as no one ever took responsibility. Until the word lawsuit was mentioned. What they didn't know was I was going to be an attorney prior to doing what I do now and I actually knew what my contract meant as far as their obligations to me. So please, don't blame Cool Masters for the flawed nature of a horrible Home Warranty Program. Barbara and team are great. You just may want to be forewarned about the possibility of the madness that can ensue when laying claim with HWA. By the way, I promised Barbara a bottle of wine. You get a bunch of mad respect when you have to go to battle with someone for about a month's time when dealing with HWA. read more

My elderly mother's AC was not cooling this summer and the tech came out and added freon to the unit. The next day it quit cooling. We called our home warranty department to come out and take a look and they told us that the coil was old and rusted and whoever put the freon in should not have done so with the coil in this condition. Coolmasters invoiced my mother $275 anyway, and when I asked for the invoice to be voided, they refused. Was refereed to Coolmasters where a very nice lady took my call and scheduled my service. James the technician called to confirm the visit and arrived on time. He was extremely professional during his service call and even offered to clean the area he worked in when done! I was never "up sold" and felt great about the cost! Coolmasters were hired by my home insurance warranty provider to come out. They noticed that our cooling unit was low on refrigerant and proceeded to fill it (without our consent). As anyone who is remotely intelligent(or knows how to do an internet search) knows, freon just does not disappear into thin air - there has to be a leak. Coolmasters refused to look for the leak, despite needing a whopping 2lbs to fill the system. They also attempted to leave our premises without even checking the attic furnace, I actually had to convince the guy to go look at as I repeatedly told him there was a hole near the indoor coil. When he saw it, he patched it up real quick with duct tape, which was loose before the end of the day. He refused to do a decent job fixing the hole. He wrote up a report that did not mention anything about the air leak, and simply recommended an annual inspection. When I realized this, I ran back out and asked him to add the part about the air leak. He only did so on my copy of the receipt - thus never giving my home insurance the documentation showing that something else was the problem. I didn't write a review until now because I'd been hoping to get my home insurance warranty to actually heed my contract, but they never did, mostly thanks to Coolmasters doing a subpar job of discovering the issues with our unit and writing a proper report. Thanks for collaborating with them, Coolmasters, here's your negative review. Our ancient air conditioner finally had to be put out of its misery a couple of months--and a couple weeks' worth of hundred-degree weather--after Coolmasters serviced it (see previous review). I got quotes from them and another company on several different replacement options; Coolmasters was by far the cheapest (thanks in part to the Bryant Bonus manufacturer rebate program available at the time), and I had a positive opinion of them from my last experience, so they got the job. Brian and his team showed up within 20 minutes of the start time we'd agreed on. The job took almost exactly as long as they predicted (8 hours). They made a much smaller mess than I expected, and cleaned up after themselves pretty thoroughly. The only damage done was to a cheap light fixture next to the attic access stairs; Brian offered either to replace it for me, or just deduct it from the price of the job--and deducted more than I would have asked. Coolmasters did very tidy, professional work, and did so for a much lower price than their competitors' bids. I could only be happier as a customer if this weren't such an inherently expensive purchase! read more

I called to schedule an appointment with a specific piece of HW. I found their number from the Find a Pro link on Honeywell's website for said specific piece of HW. The lady I spoke with assured me they understood the piece of equipment I had and that their technicians were up to date on the equipment. I scheduled an appointment; was told they would be there between the 1-5pm window. 6pm comes around, a couple younger gentlemen showed up. Outside my home I asked them if they were familiar with the specific equipment. The gentlemen told me not really, but they would try to look at my issue. I turned them away. Shortly after someone else called me, told me they could send someone else that was familiar with the equipment. When I told them No, I was told, well you are going to be charged a service charge. Nowhere in the process of scheduling the meeting nor can I find anything on their website does it indicate a service fee for showing up. I cannot in good conscious recommend this company for your HVAC needs. read more

The folks at Coolmasters are very friendly and professional. They consistently schedule our appointments quickly. These guys are our designated A/C service provider for our home warranty company. However, They have been out to our house several times and always seem to put forth the minimum amount of service necessary. Many times, a few weeks after the service call, the A/C will fail to function properly again and they have to come back out. At best they are milking the home warranty company. At worst they are wasting their customer's time and only fixing 70% of what's wrong with the HVAC system every time they come out - doing just enough to get it cooling again. read more

Our Blower Motor for our main A/C went out a couple of nights ago. I called Coolmasters to get someone out to fix it. The receptionist was very personable and professional. She got a technician out to our house the same day as soon as I got home from work. Our tech, Kenny was outstanding; very kind, courteous, professional, and on the level about what our system (27 years old now) really needed. He took out the old motor and spent extra time getting the seized motor free from the drum so we wouldn't have to buy a new one of those. After leaving to check and see if they had a replacement he called and told me that they didn't have a matching motor in stock but one could be had first thing in the morning. For my troubles they knocked another $100 off the already reasonably quoted price for the repair. He met me at my house early the next morning and got everything up and running. Perfect! Coolmasters is entirely paperless so before leaving he made all of his notes into an iPad, took my check, and before he was out of my driveway I had an email from him with a detailed PDF doc of my system description, parts used, time taken, recommendations, warranty info, and a picture of my check. This review is way over due... they serviced my AC/Heater back in the Spring. Overall, there cannot be any gripes or concerns. I was introduced to Coolmasters from my Home Warranty company. I had a simple clogged main drain line from my AC unit, I did the things that were needed, but they failed to keep it cleaned. The tech from Coolmasters came out, flushed my drain, performed preventative maintenance on it, and provided additional recommendations along with a personal service connection. They did not treat me as just another "warranty"person, they respected my opinion and treated me as if I knew them personally and called on a friend for help. All in all, they showed up on time, acted professional, and provided my family no worries about them as they were needing to wander through my crawl spaces to get our problem resolved. ****Edit: Owner proactively called and, after hearing the story, offered to rerun the deductible and coolant charges. Based on this gesture, changing review score from 1 to 3 stars. We still need to get the A/C fixed. Thankfully it's not August. **** Noticed the A/C stopped blowing cold on Saturday. Called HWA (home warranty). They dispatched Coolmasters from Georgetown specifically because they didn't charge an after hours rate on the weekend and other providers did. Hadn't heard a word from Coolmasters by Monday morning. Called them and got all kinds of attitude from the dispatcher (later claimed to be the "Director of Operations" when I asked to speak to a supervisor) right off the bat. She claimed they only received the dispatch on Monday morning. Fine. They sent someone out to service our Goodman unit that afternoon. Tech inspects the unit and says it's 2lbs low on coolant. The coolant costs $90/lb but HWA i it covers $10/lb. We ask him to perform a leak test because, from prior experience, I know these Goodmans have issues with holes forming in the condenser coil (see class action lawsuit on this issue). He says it's not necessary because he could see the leak coming from the rubber schrader valve. HWA authorizes the leak test, but he claims to be "100% sure that will fix the leak". We agree. He doesn't even come back inside to check that the unit is blowing cold. Of course, later that day it's 80 deg in the house and the A/C is running nonstop. We call Coolmasters at 4:30 PM and they say they will reach out to HWA to reopen the case before they can come out again to fix their shoddy work. We hear nothing from them. The next morning we call. Same dispatcher, same attitude. This is when I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told there isn't one. The dispatcher wants us to call HWA. We do, they reopen the case and notify Coolmasters. Hours later, the dispatcher claims she hasn't received he email from HWA authorizing them to come back out. Unbelievable. So now we are out $100 deductible and $160 in coolant, our A/C doesn't work and Coolmasters doesn't care. I advise you run far away from these crooked contractors. The repair service stinks and the customer service stinks. Don't waste your time and money like we did. read more

OMG!! The fan unit for our A/C went out at 3:00 pm on Thursday. It's August. It's hot. Our bedroom is on the second floor of our house and heat rises. We have eight cats. You don't want me to discuss how bad a house with eight cats smells when the temperature goes above 80 degrees F. We called our Home Warranty place and a tech from Coolmasters was at our house by 4:20. Sadly, he could not complete the repair without getting parts and was going to return at 3:00 today. But wait, he was able to get here by 1:00 and the entire thing was repaired by 3:00 pm. The crew also diagnosed something wrong with our coils and contacted the warranty place for us and we will get those replaced next week at no charge. We went less than 24 hours without A/C. The techs were polite, nice to our more horrible cats, beat their own deadlines and were focused enough on doing the job well that they prevented more problems down the line. I... I can't believe this. I mean, I am sitting here with cold air coming out of the vents. I was sure I was going to have a very warm, muggy, smelly weekend but Coolmasters saved the day! Biggest scam artist in the country! Do yourself a favor and find an honest vendor to get your air condition serviced and repaired. I have home warranty of America and they authorize this vendor to come out and repair my air conditioning unit. They came out several times during the summer, and it still did not work correctly. They could not find the issue, and instead of saying they could not find the problem, because they lacked the experience and training necessary to repair my unit, they started that there was not real issues and that HWA does not pay for extensive repairs. Then they would try to bill me for an extra service call (under an HWA contact they are supposed to keep coming out until they fix it correctly for just the over service free, if they do not fix it the first time). They even told HWA they were at my house for an hour when they were there for 15 minutes. Really incompetent trades men and liars to boot. There are much more reputable companies out there. I'd recommend using one of them. Edited to add:. I hired Coolmasters to redo my vents a few years ago. Soon after they left my home I noticed the drywall around one of my vents start to crack. I informed them about it and they send a drywall person to put putty around the vents to mask the problem, not fix it. They persuaded me that this would take care of the problem. After a bit the cracks started spreading and worsening. I contacted them and they sent someone over to take a look. The person was trying to "manage" me and tell me my sheetrock is old and that's why it started cracking (despite it not happening anywhere else in the house.) after the drywall cracked further (almost falling apart) and i received 0 help from coolmasters, I decided to get a second opinion. I hired drywall experts to replace that section. After they concluded their work they explained that the the reason for their ceiling caving in was that the duct/vent that coolmasters installed was not fastened to a support beam/stud and was basically sitting on top of my drywall with all its weight pushing against it causing it to crack. I understand that mistakes are made, but for the amount of money coolmasters charges they should do a much better job than this, especially after I spent all that time trying to get them to see what was happening to my ceiling and having to put up with them brag about all the engineering that supposedly goes into their process. To have them come down to my house and talk down to me (instead of fixing the problem) was the final straw that convinced me to write this negative review. We spent a lot of our hard earned money on the duct/vent replacement. The least they could have done was check their work (especially as it was caving in my ceiling.) They even ignored my emails for a while, and it wasn't until I got upset about it on the phone that they actually sent someone to give us some made up story about our sheetrock being too old. Choose carefully where you invest your money. It could end up costing you twice as much in the long run, and they're not cheap. read more

He was prompt, courteous and explained some issues we were having very clearly, even showing pictures of an exhaust pipe that had become disconnected. I'm so thankful that he fixed this. We have been using them at Senox Corporation, Mama's Home Cooking, all of our commercial properties, and in our private residences for years and years. Claim with HWA- Good customer service over the phone but James, the tech that was sent out, lacked communication skills to explain simple information. Long story short everything was an extra fee not covered by HWA. The lack of information on the first appointment was so bad I had to call HWA for a recall. During the 2nd visit the issue was caused by what tech the missed the first time, now also not covered by HWA. I paid $75 for the first visit and on the 2nd visit the tech tells me he didn't inspect the unit the first time, which was news to me. I wont be paying a 2nd fee of $75, their tech or HWA can pay for that. I wouldn't mind calling HWA to read them my review and other reviews on here that have to do with HWA claims. read more

These guys are great! From Sara helping me when I called in to Kenny doing exceptional work at my house. Sara was so nice and help me set everything up when I called in with what I thought was a huge problem and she definitely made me feel better with how easy of a fix it was. I don't know much about air conditioning but having someone like Kenny come help is just what you need. He was a really cool guy and explained everything he was going to be doing and gave me easy tips on what I could do to prevent future problems. And he's a very quick and efficient working. The office manage, Sarah, at coolmaster is the living definition of uncaring unprofessional behavior. Our ac is completely broken, and a 5 hour window is completely unreasonable to sit there, (because technicians will not call until they are literally driving to your residence) WITH a baby in the home..... She absolutely refused to even ask a the tech to call when they arrived at eh job before so I could have more of a heads up, flat out revised to work with me on timing, and was RUDE beyond reason. This June 2011 I had an issue for the first time with one of Coolmaster's new techs when he tried to diagnose my AC problem. I could tell that the diagnosis was wrong by the guys body language and descriptions. Never the less, I put a phone call in to the owner to notify him of my bad experience. He promptly offered a total solution to the problem. What impressed me the most was the fact that he did not stop at just fixing the agreed issue. He and his brother also took the time (all day) to go the extra mile in 100 degree heat to fully check everything else at no extra charge. I was extremely impressed. It's been a long time since i've witnessed this level of customer service. I reinstate my initial recommendation to hire Coolmasters with absolute confidence that they will do a great job and follow through with excellent customer service. I have had Coolmasters come out several times to repair different problems with AC and heating and they are very courteous,prompt and professional. I couldn't ask for anything more ! They explained the problem without the condescending attitude I sometimes get from some repairmen who feel no need to go into detail with a WOMAN. So ,kudos to these guys ! They are based in Georgetown but travel into Austin on a daily basis for their customers. Their prices are reasonable also, and they don't waste a lot of time running up the clock . read more

This company is involved with Home Warrenty Scams. Our HWA home warrenty company required us to use Cool Masters as the repair company. Cool Masters will give your home warrenty a list of items that are 'outside of covered repair amounts'. Then the home warrenty company will refuse to pay anything unless you agree to the repair list from Cool Masters (only given verbally). All the time, Cool Masters denies they give HWA the list. Any contractor that is involved with these HWA repairs is obviously not a reputable company and hurting for work. Buyer be ware. They are very nice on the phone but its just a way to get as much money out of you as possable. People only use them because thier Home warrenty requires it. read more

We had another company come out about 2 years ago. That tech rigged one of our air conditioners because he didn't have the correct part. This caused our capacitor to burn out. Brian came out and told us what needed to be done. Because these air conditioners were over 9 years old, we decided to replace both of them. Brian did an outstanding job installing them and he checked everything else out. I wouldn't go to anyone but Brian from now on. ADAMANTLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND COOLMASTERS FOR RESIDENTIAL Because Coolmasters failed to solve my problem I went to Texas Home Performance who very quickly solved my problem that Coolmasters failed to correctly diagnose thus causing compounded problems. K Jackson Georgetown The whole story is below, On Wed afternoon 9/20 my wife noticed a small leak in the ceiling of living room under where the AC/Heating unit sits in the attic. I promptly checked it out and realized a problem because there was water in the secondary containment of AC . I called our AC guy who did the original install 4 years ago to find that he no longer does service work, but referred me to CoolMasters (Brian specifically as service tech). First thing Th morning 9/21 called Brian to find he is now manager not doing service work and suggested getting on their twice a year visit as a cost effective way to get this checked out. I agreed and so he sent out a 17 yr tech, Greg, who was to come later that day. Greg showed, went up and did his check out stating that all checked out and that the secondary containment was draining properly and had no explanation for why there was a leak in the ceiling and water in the pan. Strike 1 - no root cause solution to the problem for which I called them out. Greg said that we should keep an eye on it, call them back if we noticed dripping again and ran my credit card for the annual maintenance fee (2 visits). On Sun evening 9/24 we noticed water coming out of the drain for the secondary containment and I went to attic to make sure the pan wasn't over flowing even though I knew it shouldn't have because it was draining slowly (thus no plug in drain line but also still indicating a problem with AC unit). Mon morning first thing, I call Brian and schedule a different tech, James, to come out and the soonest scheduled was TH morning 8 to noon time frame. I had no choice but to accept. By Wed afternoon at 4:30 pm there was a more significant ceiling leak a couple feet away from original spot. Immediately called Coolmasters to get James (or anyone) out more urgently and was given a window of 8am to 10am on TH morning, 9/28. But a few minutes later I received a call back from the receptionist, Barbara, who indicated that they weren't going to be able to come out at all because they had a major commercial job on Th requiring all techs, would refund maintenance fee and that I would receive a call from office manager, Deeann. Deeann finally issued the refund Th AM and and I was obliged to find someone else to solve my problem. Strike 2 - Who would want to do business with a company that doesn't solve the problem and then walks away from the job without completion? The AC man that referred me to Coolmasters indicates he will never refer anyone else to them nor will I!! End of Story - overnight on Th morning a portion of my ceiling came down, making a huge mess and requiring me to have inconvenience and additional costs to have the ceiling repaired. All this could have been avoided if the manager, Brian, would have required the tech to solve the problem when he first came out!! Now I am livid!! My wife and I drove the 45 mins each way to meet with Brian only to have him tell us within the 5 mins we were there that he has no intention of paying for ceiling repairs - now even more livid. Had them come out to the house to bid work on our system. My wife had to deal with them as I was out of town. Their bid was three times more than anyone elses. Called the owner to ask why and his answer was they bid so high and his response was that to "do it right" they would have disconnect the systems completely, build a platform to meet commercial code (in a residence) and reinstall the system. With temperature greater than 90 degrees, owner Brian Donohoo was out to diagnose my air conditioner problem within hours. While I braced for and could have been charged for the worst, Brian informed me that I was the victim of pesky fire ants that had obstructed the air handler mechanism. After cleaning that system he volunteered to do the same for my other unit. The service (only) call was extremely reasonable and I appreciate the honesty and professionalism. read more

Just had Greg out to look at a weird noise on my home AC unit. Greg called my wife early on to let her know he was on his way. Greg arrived as promised, was professional and communicated everything he saw while inspecting our unit. He found water backed up in the blower motor. So he drained the water, cleaned the fan, and put back together. Also cleared out drain line vas checked the coolant system for leaks. Always impressed with these guys, third time I have used them. Coolmasters tried to deceive me (an informed consumer) that for them to perform the A/C repair in my home that I would have to pay for a "Mandatory" $100.00 EPA disposal of my evaporator. This is NOT the law. Under section 608 of the EPA it states that all refrigerant must be recovered with recovery system and that "sealed" refrigeration units must be disposed of by first being recovered. The repair itself required recovery, but not the disposal of the unit. They wanted me to PAY them to Sell the aluminum and copper. I refused. They also wanted $100.00 to install an 11.00 water level switch that takes 5 minutes to install. I refused. They agreed to remove the charges and HWA agreed to those terms with them. AFTER the part was shipped to them (Coolmasters) and their dispatcher called and scheduled the install, the General Manager called and said they would not agree to the previous agreement. The people at Coolmasters are very friendly and professional. They quickly scheduled a time to come out and inspect our AC problem when we sent the claim through our warranty company. They had to return to our home several times as the problem always came back. One time it was the wrong part they installed. The next it wasn't welded right. The one after that it was welded too much. They sent their best guy out after that to check it and and he said everything looked good. Except here we are again. This time they bolted the copper too tight and now theres another leak. I'm pretty frustrated with Coolmasters not being able to get the job done correctly the first time. My family and I should be comfortable in our home and we trusted them to help us right. Now we're working with Texas Quality Service to, hopefully, finish the job. I wouldn't do business with Coolmasters again or recommend their services to anyone. read more
