My wife and I visited Cooley Bay Winery in Van Alstyne on a Saturday afternoon and had a great experience. The venue has a modern, welcoming atmosphere with contemporary artwork, unique furnishings, and thoughtful décor that gives the space a distinctive character without feeling pretentious. We enjoyed two wine flights and found several favorites. The Peach Wine and Blackberry Wine were both excellent, and we especially enjoyed the Tempranillo Wine. The charcuterie board paired well with the tasting and made for a relaxing afternoon. The pricing was very reasonable. For two flights, a charcuterie board, and two bottles of wine, our total came to about $117, which felt fair and comparable to similar wineries in North Texas. If you live in or around Van Alstyne, this is a great local spot to unwind, enjoy some quality wine, and appreciate a little piece of wine country in your own backyard. I became aware of this cute little winery from my beer group of all places. They just started to brew beer and so I went to check them out. The place is cozy and calm, perfect to relax and get away from your daily stress. The owner is super friendly and, when asked, told us about how they came to own the place and to start offering beer. The new beer is very approachable, nothing weird or overly challenging, just four traditional styles. A Honey Blonde, an ESB, a Stout, and an Irish Amber. If you're not into beer, they still have wine of course, which my wife opted for. She chose a Riesling, a Blackberry fruit wine, a Strawberry fruit wine, and a Sangria. All of them were really tasty. I liked that the fruit wines didn't have the artificial flavor some of them sometimes have. If you have alcohol, you probably should have a bit to eat and they offer that, too. My wife went with a butter board (a few different types of butter with their house-baked beer bread) and I with the beer board (beer cheese, two types of salami, pretzels, a beer bread roll, flatbread slices, pickles, mustard, and seasoned almonds). Both of them were excellent. My son got a BBQ chicken flatbread, which was also very good. So, overall a great place to hang out, relax, and enjoy yourself! read more

We stopped for a tasting as part of the North Texas Wine Trail. There is a beachy ambiance inside, despite not being near a body of water. There is a surfboard and deck-style furniture that provides a relaxed atmosphere. There are seating options indoors as well as outdoors on their patio. Free parking (just a little construction going on). The staff was attentive with good service. I think this might be a location for sweet wine drinkers, as they have a large selection of sweet wines. read more

What a great vibe! Our last stop today on the North Texas Wine Trail! Wish it was our first!! Fun atmosphere. Guys behind the counter were great. Sam spent most of the time with us but the kid you turns 21 next month (didn't get your name) was just as awesome. Loved the fun slushy wine drinks but enjoyed the Tempranillo and Dry Red too. We hosted a party there and the staff couldn't have been any better! Anya, the manager, was very accommodating, professional, and helpful. Friendly staff for a place that is "a work in process". First off this is not a winery. It's basically a wine bar in the middle of a field just off highway 75. If you read the history, this location used to be a Southwest Bell telephone utility building. The land was purchased and turned into a winery. Again, use that term very loosely. There is not enough space here to be doing any wine production, as far as I could tell. Most of the wines are sweet, Kool-aid style wine. The signature drink is a Cooley... basically a wine cooler made from fruit wine instead of a malt beverage base. There is no atmosphere here, as of right now unless you like sitting in a concrete building with someone singing and drinking wine. It's a roadside wine bar. Looks like they are working on expanding the place. I'd wait and see what this place turns into once it "grows up". read more

Went on Sunday when they have a breakfast buffet and bottomless mimosas. They breakfast was awesome and consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, breakfast pizza and pancakes. We also did a wine tasting while we were there. We loved the cranberry and cherry wines. The owner was the one who provided the wine tasting. He explained how the wines were made, which one was the most popular as well as the alcohol content of each. We purchased 4 bottles of wine, but will definitely be back. read more
