Ordered this at the kiosk: Passion Fruit Iced 101 - Their sizes are bigger than normal boba store. I think their large was around 30oz, which was nice. There are no passion fruit seeds sadly. Just your standard drink and paid $7.33. The kiosk on their menu only has images of the their top 6 drinks which is frustrating when deciding what to order. Service was fast since I was the only customer. There's a couple chairs on the interior and a nice backdrop for photos but otherwise a really small shop. The wife and I found ourselves in Chinatown for the day running a few errands and stopping for lunch. So naturally before we left, I had to satisfy my boba craving. I noticed Cool Tea Bar nearby so I decided to stop in despite the average reviews. There was only 1 worker behind the counter making drinks when I arrived, and one person that had entered ahead of me. Despite being the only person making all the drinks and there being a self-service kiosk along the wall, he kept insisting on calling everyone over to personally take their order instead. This meant that while he was busy taking everyone's orders, NOONE was making the drinks. This fact was further hammered in by several frustrated looking patrons who were already waiting inside for their orders when I entered. Ordered a large, Passion Fruit Green Tea w/ boba, which wound up taking nearly 30mins to finally get due to the aforementioned issue. Although their large size is HUMONGOUS, it was EXTREMELY disappointing as the drink was heavily watered down and barely had any taste. Been here a few times after eating lunch at a nearby restaurant. Never really interacted with anyone here except when they handed me my drink because they have a self service touch screen where you can just order drinks and they make it right away. Efficient and quiet shop, at least the few times I visited. They have a cute instagram friendly photo wall "Made in San Francisco" where you can take cutesy photos. This is my favorite and my go to boba place in Chinatown. Their milk tea never fails and never change to bad but has been stay consistency over many years. It's a classic and original with their own house tea and own house made grass jelly! Their prices are not as high as the other fancy milk tea that cost $8-9, this boba place sell good original quality milk tea and fruit tea. I have a lot of memories of this place growing up. When I was a kid, it was always a decision between coming here for better milk tea quality, or Quickly's at the time. Every Saturday after Chinese school, I kinda always came here and it's incredible how ginormous the drink is when you order a large. Nowadays with other boba shops, it's hard to compare this place to the others, but this is place is always a nice go-to spot if you're nearby. To me, it's nostalgic. It's a small shop, and there's usually only 1-2 people working so it can be a little slow. But that aside, if you really want to appreciate the drink, I do recommend getting it around 50-75% sweet. The Kumquat Green Tea is really refreshing but I got that at 30% sweet thinking it was going to be too sweet, but I should of gotten it a tad bit sweeter. The milk teas were alright. I feel like the tea flavors could be a bit stronger. What makes this place stand out is the humongous size of the drink itself. You can order a large and you will probably get full off of the drink alone. They have the biggest drink sizes that I know of in the Bay area, and I think that itself is a unique quality that this store brings to the table. I ordered a lemon, honey with aloe tea from Cool Tea and it was one of the absolute worst honey and lemon drinks I've ever had. I am almost certain they did not use real lemons as all I could taste was citric acid. (Like the powder stuff from True Lemon) There was also no honey taste to the drink at all. My hubby got their classic milk bubble tea. It was okay, nothing special but the boba was just the right texture. Two stars because we ordered a large and it was the biggest "large" bubble tea I've ever encountered. Quantity wise it's worth what you pay for. Ordered my usual drink - kumquat green tea w/ cool ball. Tasted totally different than it used to be as the worker didn't bother using the shaker to make the drink and eyeball on adding the kumquat syrup so I couldn't taste the kumquat at all. Been coming to Cool Tea Bar since they were at the Pacific location. Back then, there were not too many good boba places in Chinatown and this one hit the spot whenever you needed a drink to quench your thirst. I have always been a fan of their grass jelly roasted milk tea. However, some high quality boba tea spots have since made a home in Chinatown as well, sinking Cool Tea Bar to just so so now in terms on price and quality. I still stop here from time to time but I do have other favorites that I enjoy going to now when I am in the area.
