It's a bit out of my way, but the prices are a bit better than other places that sell the same kind of stuff and they let you try the games first before buying. Very friendly and helpful staff! They always have a great selection of games from classic to modern consoles. In addition they have a good selection of used blu-rays, 4ks and DVD's. If you are into collectables they sell all sorts of figures and toys from Star Trek to Firefly and everything in-between. I have traded in games systems to them and they do give a good value for the game systems. They also sell older game consoles. A warranty is included with the sales also. Additionally, if you have a broken game console their sister store in Norfolk, Video Game Heaven can fix them for you. I have to say today was my last straw with this store. I am a local here and my husband and I have been going here for years, but every time, and I mean EVERY time we go there the customer service sucks! We are never greeted, no one offers to help. We try to get the attention of the workers behind the counter who are distracting themselves with everything they shouldn't be doing. One was on a personal call on their cell phone right behind the counter, one was playing with the ball attached to the string and cup...while we stood there trying to get their attention, and one guy was actually talking to a customer. Really? You are there to work, do your job. Stop acting like just because you work in a "cool" store with games you know about that you are better than the customers that go in there. I rather go buy my stuff from gamestop and major retail places at this point, at least they smile and act like customer service, not lazy children. read more

If you're in the market to buy some new-to-you media (video games,blu rays etc) you won't find a better deal anywhere, provided they have what you're looking for. The selection can be somewhat limited depending on what you're looking for, but since its all used stuff, that is hardly their fault. Not really much to look at. A lot of older games- ps2/3, Xbox/360. Barely anything for ps4. Lots of skylanders and disney infinity discs. Lots of DVDs but only some blu rays but the pricing and selection is not that great. Attracts a lot of weirdos who need quick $ since they buy items. This is the perfect store to go to for a pitiful selection of goods (oh they have a lot of used DVDs, but none you'd actually want to buy) and to be completely ignored the entire time by the staff. I even picked up a book and was going to buy it, but put it back when all of the employees were too busy talking about Ryan Reynolds to even make eye contact. They have a wide selection and their prices are IDENTICAL/CLOSE to that of Video Game Heaven. Overall, our experience was good. We've been in several times and find good deals, but you always have to be careful and check prices with those online. They mark popular games up that can be found 5.00 cheaper online, but also have games that aren't very popular/good selling for a couple bucks cheaper than online. If you're there to see what they have, there's a LOT. They only sell video game merchandise and movies, so keep that in mind. No cameras, no cell phones. There are a couple people who work there to take note of. I don't know them well enough by name, but by appearance. There's a short white woman with dark, dyed hair who is very sweet and gets the job done quickly. She's pretty cool. There's a tall black guy who has an awesome sense of humor and if you can take a joke, he's pretty cool. He also gets the job done. There's also a buff, medium height, white Italian looking dude who seems to be the guy running the show. He's nice if you're talking about something he likes, but he's a little full of himself and can be rude if he's asked a question he doesn't like. I asked him about phones, and he informed me that there's no way for him to look em up to see if they're able to be activated or if there's a lock. He was very definite and confident about his response until I told him he could just look up the IEMI by a simple google search and actually see if the bill was paid etc. He didn't like that and made it clear that he wasn't going to sell them, but was nice again once the subject was changed. Sad to say tonight was my first time in this store and without a doubt my last. I went in wanting to buy a Super Nintendo and some games for my N64/Game Cube as well. When I walked in, I didn't even get acknowledged by the staff. There seemed to be 3 people working, no one even looked up at me. I still looked at their games after finding out for myself (from looking behind the counter with my own two eyes and clearly walking past the staff behind the counter) that there were no Super Nintendos. I found a couple games I wanted for N64 and as I was waiting, listening to a guy employee behind the counter hold a steady conversation with a girl there and watch said employee look up at another customer to ask him if he needed help finding anything. After he went back to doing absolutely nothing but sit behind the counter on a stool for about a minute or two, he finally looked up at me since I was leaning over the counter and we stared at each other for a good 3 seconds before he looked back down again, to continue doing NOTHING. When I called the store after I left, the manager James, although trying to be polite, brushed off my concerns about the store's customer service and stated that this behavior was "unlike his employees" and continued to say that I could come in and try to shop there again. Sorry to say James, but it looks like from several past reviews, all of your employees are too involved in their own conversations and twiddling their thumbs to even care to notice customers who are ready to drop some serious money. Which regardless if I was spending money or not, if you have a total of 5 people in your store- acknowledge someone when they walk in your store. THE BEST VIDEO GAME STORE IN THE WORLD!!!! (other than the ones in Japan of course..) No lies, COOL STUFF has it all from 8- Bit to new shit: NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Sega Mega, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3, 360, Xbox, everything.. The prices are all very reasonable. I got Earthbound for only $50! (usually goes for $130 online) the inventory is always in great shape (they clean every disc and cartridge that walks in the door) as well as a vast selection of games the store also carries: - Strategy guides - RPGs - Manga - Anime - Figures - Horror/Sci Fi - Wrestling/Martial Arts DVDs - TV Boxsets - extensive DVD selection (most are under $4) - VHS/Blu Ray/ Laserdisc The people that work there are all really nice and are all passionate about their interests. Its the ideal place for movie buffs, nerds, gamers, otakus, manga readers, music listeners, and collectors. read more

They have a great selection of DVD's, games, books, CD's for all to enjoy. I went in and got a XBOX 360 hard drive and a Final Fantasy 13 cover for 20 bucks. The biggest problem at this store is the fact that most of the stuff behind the counter (which they let people come behind to look, which is a 1up to me) they are kinda reluctant to sell in fear of people reselling it on Ebay. They should not be reluctant to sell their merchandise to gamers who will cherish and play the game from years to come. read more

CoolStuff is a pretty good place to get some good deals at on retro games and consoles.But if your a serious collecter and are looking for some of the more rare and obscure titles you probably want to look somewhere else.But if your new to retro game collecting or gaming in general this is certainly good place to shop,especially for the more common titles.On occasion you might find a rare Nes,Snes or other retro platform title for well under market value.The staff for the most part are pretty nice,the new owner is a different story though.He's a real butthole and I'm not the only one who's said that.He does not know jack about videogames or has a clue about running a business,and that's sad.This store used to be better .All and all CoolStuff is still a pretty good store ,just not as good has it used to be. read more

Terrible store, these folks ripped me off. I purchased a used game for my girlfriend, we tried it for one day and didn't like it. We then came back to trade it in the next day (for a reduced price of course), and they said the disk had too many scratches on it. I explained I just purchased it the day before and had only removed it from the case one time. They still impolitely refused, and would not take it under any circumstances. Of course it was a very popular title and they had many copies of it. Most likely that had something to do with their emphatic statements about how they could not take it with scratches (which I could barely see). Buyer beware. read more

I like the store, don't get me wrong they have good items and their prices are ok, but for trading items you will not get very much for some items. And I've honestly gotten more for trades going to GameStop than I do here. If the game is 3$-4$ and they sell it for that, you can expect to get around 13¢ per item. These same items have traded in to GameStop if they are PS3 or Xbox 360 and get at least 50¢ before any trade in bonuses add up. Before they where bought out by video game heaven they where alot better for trade-ins. I still would shop here for the lower pricing of the games but I do not recommend trading in games, especially if they are sold for around 3-4$ by them. You would have better luck at GameStop or another retailer if you can find one. It's just sad you would have to basically sell them 30 games, just to get 10$ one. If they better their trade in prices then I can see more people coming to trade in and in return spend what they just got trading in the store. It does not have to go back to like it was but just improve a little because as it is now, i will not trade anything there. Unless GameStop will not take it do not trade it here. But as I said if you aren't on trading and just looking for some cool stuff to buy, by all means go ahead. read more

We used to love this place until I bought a ps3 controller for my bf and when it wouldnt charge he went up there to exchange it. They basically tried to tell him that that controller wasnt the one i bought and that the one i got was actually cheaper. so they overcharged me but acted as if we were tryin to scam them. cool stuff is THE place to go for used video games in va. beach. they are very particular as to the condition of the games and dvd's they take in so you always get a scratch free disc. they used to fix PS3's but i'm sad to say that they no longer do. it was my go to place if anything ever happened to my game system. the best video game deals in va. beach. highly recommended!! read more

I have been going to Cool Stuff for years and absolutely love the store, the inexpensive prices, and the people behind the counter. I have bought so many items, sold quite a few, and received a couple items free in the 'free box' that only I would have wanted. Never had scratches on disks for music, games, or dvds. They are not taking many VHS anymore because people just are not buying VHS very much. Staff is so polite and knowlegable and lots of fun if you are in a great mood; otherwise, they are professional. Not bad a place to find a deal on used games, Dvd or Blu's... the new owner needs to polish up the place get rid of the buddies and run a tight ship. He has a bunch of teens that are likely paid under the table and some of them look like they haven't bathed in a week and need to be taught how to be proffessional if he wants his buisness to grow. It's kinda irratating that everyone has to run to a manager and ask where is this ? how much for that ? Why this or how come that ? Can you say Train ? Some of the conversations between the employees is mindboggling, almost to the point where you may say "what" ??? This slows the process of purchase and destroys the customer experience .The owner also needs to be much more personable , everyone knows who he is, no secret..he wont say hello at all or thank you come again and he doesn't seem to engage with the customer unless he appraises an item for trade when others may be stumped on the value. If I were him I'd invest in T shirts for the employees, some of the employees on the floor blend in with customers and you don't know who is who . His beard makes him look like a high end dweeb that played pac man till his fingers fell off. God only knows what he carries in that bag with all the buttons on it. I went in, and there were a 4 employees working, three of whom were busy dealing with other customers. Ten minutes go by and I am finally acknowledged but not helped. The fourth employee did nothing but play zelda on a NES, never even turning around. Another five minutes pass and the numerous PS3 games I brought in to sell, were valued at $30. I took them to gamestop and they offered me $50 for the lot. All in all very disappointed in this musty store run by unprofessional employees. read more

I have dont a TON of shopping here they are normally good to work with. However recently I made a purchase, and left the store not TEN minutes later I called them and explained to the them that I did not take a better look at the condition of a controller i bought, I explained that it looked as though a dog chewed on a part of it and asked if I could bring it back when I got off work. I had NO issues on the phone. Then when I went back to the store 3 hours later the make the exchange I was told that "they did not sell that to me" I was accused of bringing back something that was not purchased there. The man continued to argue with me and accuse me of being a liar. I became irrate and argued back. THe man then gave me the piece of the controller that was nasty but insisted that I was lying about the original when I had PROOF that I called them not 10 mins after leaving the store. That was completely rude and I will NOT be shopping there again. It's a shame bcecause we do all of our game, systems and movie shopping there. read more

Used to love the place, but I do not lie when I tell you what seemed to be the head guy at Cool Stuff on Holland Rd. in Virginia Beach literally ripped me off on a gameboy game. His employee sold me two pokemon games telling me they were compatible with each other. Well they weren't. The main guy took the games from his employee, sold me the games, and 20 minutes later before I even get home I realized that these games actually AREN'T compatible. I take them back and he tells me he never sold me the freakin' game and that some dent in the top of the game that looked like it came from a dog biting it or something wasn't on the game when he gave it to me! He told me he would never sell a game with any damage(though the game worked just fine) and that I was lying about the damage on the game... How the heck could I damage a game in my car in the 20 minutes I owned it? I don't even own a dog!!!! That bite mark or dent was there when he sold it to me and I didn't think it was even a problem... I just wanted my money back for the games I was told were compatible.......
