My son purchased a Christmas present for me from this business. Since it was a gift I was just going to get a credit and get something I collect. I contacted the store and spoke with a young female who sarcastically told me I was pretty much out of luck if I didn't have a receipt. After I told her she was acting like a smart ass she hung up on me. I called back to another female( Ryan) who refused to give me the girls name I spoke because she said the conversation was aggressive. Ryan advised me they could check the store camera to see who talked to me and I could call her manager whose phone number was on the website. Never again will I give them my business. I will also let everyone I know how they could really careless based on their employees attitudes. read more

My son is ALL about Mario right now. I heard from my brother that they sell character plushies here and they actually had quite a few we didn't have! We swung by and it's a plushie collectors dream. I wanted to buy them all. If you're a bit on the shorter side, you might have to ask for some help getting them down as they're hung up on a rope towards the ceiling, but my husband came in handy today and could pull down what we wanted down. Staff was pleasant and made themselves available, and I appreciated that they didn't hover. When we went to pay, I liked that they wanted to see an ID if you paid by card for verification. Cool stuff definitely has COOL STUFF... haha. Earlier this year, this place recently expanded and now carries sealed TCG products like Yu Gi Oh, Pokémon and DBZ. This place carries so many things -- everything from Anime figures, stuffed animals, and posters to used gaming systems (as far as back as Super Nintendo and all the way to the PS5 and everything in between), and video games for all systems, a ton of DVDs, blu rays, lego sets, and so much more. I recommend coming here to check all of the cool stuff they have to offer. I recently sold them a PS3 with games and I believe they gave me a fair offer (I chose the cash option but you can get store credit). The staff are friendly and and are very knowledgeable about all of their products. Sadly this isn't the Cool Stuff of old anymore. Several times in a row I went in and they would have sales that would mysteriously not apply to the things I wanted to buy. The most recent one was a bogo 50% off bluray promotion and then I was told that 4k Blu-ray's aren't Blu-ray's. Even though the flyer for that sale was on the 4k shelf. But that's not an issue now because they stopped selling movies. And the overpriced video game section is a fraction of the size it used to be. I understand that physical media is not as popular as it used to be but that's what made Cool Stuff cool was all the niche things you could find. It's now almost exclusively manga/anime figurines and such. Which if that's your thing, this might still be a cool spot for you - but I still would advise to not trust any of the sales they advertise read more

I went in to sell my Xbox One S, and the girl behind the counter says 32$. I originally thought it was a very low offer. Learning that was standard everywhere else, I came back to try to sell it again. How come all of a sudden the guy behind the counter offers me 3 whole fucking dollars? Figure out a baseline that all employees should know, cause clearly they are not on the same page when it comes to selling electronics. I would understand if the Xbox weren't working well or at all, but the console perfectly fine, same for the controller. Really enjoyed stopping by here with some friends while we were in the vb area! There are some similar nerd-stores near me in northern virginia, but Cool Stuff really outdoes them by a huge margin. There's a huge selection of games, a huge selection of plushies, a huge selection of figurines, and more. I mostly looked at the figurines, but was genuinely impressed with the other items' selections. Their items had a couple stickers depicting different price points for each item qualities/conditions, which I really appreciated. From other reviews it sounds like they received really poor service. Came upon this place randomly and I am glad I stopped by. They have all kinds of need culture stuff including a bunch of retro stuff. Most of the retro stuff was in good condition. Same games were at market and a few were a bit high. One employee was super friendly and the other seemed like we interrupted her. The universe loves balance lol nobody was rude so that is a plus! Plus was very clean and things were well displayed. Only thing that would make this place better would be a little better organization of the games. The staff is always unwelcoming. The place always smells of weed or BO. 90% of the store is just anime figures now. The same you can get at every other retail chain. Video games are always higher than the price charting value and now they give you a fraction of what they use to on trades. I've been enjoying Cool Stuff again now that they have new owners. (Video Game Heaven). They have a good brand here and I don't see them changing the name anytime soon if ever. I've found plenty of portable game content here (PSP, Vita, 3DS and GBA) and other retro consoles as well. In addition to selling old systems and games they also have a repair and refurbishing area in the back can pretty much fix or rebuild just about any of those classic consoles. This is a neat place. I've purchased and sold several items here. Cool Stuff staff are friendly (though mostly all still in their teens if I had to guess) and there tends to be a long wait, but it's worth it if you want a deal. I've bought several used DVDs and games (Xbox, Playstation) and never had a problem. Prices tend to be much fairer than Game Stop and other competitors. We've also purchased a few Guitar Hero guitars here and have had no problems. Unless it has changed as long as you keep the receipt you can bring an item back for up to 6 months if it stops working for a refund or another item which is very generous. I also traded my old Playstation two and several games and controllers and walked out of the store with $150 in cold hard cash. Not too shabby. If I'm looking for a used game or DVD - I stop here first. read more

Rationale was product data does not state it should have audio yet also doesn't mention it wouldn't have audio. This store is absolutely INCREDIBLE! I got to visit today with my uncle and cousins, and let me tell you, this place is like a candy store to a little kid for me. Tons of pop figures, cute plushies, games across all systems, sooo much stuff. The boss is also really nice! They were very helpful towards any questions or concerns, or if you just want to discuss stuff like video games. The prices may be high, but, trust me, it's worth it. Purchased an N64 at this store in December and it gave me nothing but issues since day one. Granted that consoles from the 1990s are very old in the first place, this unit in particular was so visibly dirty on the outside that my gut gave me the early hunch that I may have problems. In the end, I did, but I digress. The line in the store was awkward and there was not much structure to how the employees seemed to be helping customers. It took far too long for anyone to ask me if I had been helped. However, the real issue was not the stale customer service, but the actual unit I purchased. Yes, it was dirty, as some systems that have age are, but this one seemed like its previous owner(s) failed to take care of it at all, and it had dirt in spots that seemed impossible to clean, almost as if the console itself had been rolled in dirt. I made the purchase and took the N64 back to my home and gave it a go with multiple games - froze with every game at varying times between immediately and 15 minutes. I know that cartridges can get dirty and prevent contact, so I did some cleaning with 91% rubbing alcohol and figured that would eliminate the constant freezing, even though it seemed odd that every single game froze in the same timeframe. Turns out it is not the games. It is the system, and when I attempted to bring it back for an exchange, or perhaps a refund, I was told that they give out store credit instead of money refunds or I could exchange for a different unit. The problem is that they didn't have any N64's in stock, and while the man who helped me out on my second visit was a great employee, he did mention that the unit itself was extremely filthy inside and was even surprised it was sold to me. He told this to me after testing the unit and cleaning it out. Moreover, it did freeze on them when they started it up. I was given another 30 days warranty but what good is a warranty if all you offer is an exchange for a product you don't have in stock or in-store credit, when the faith of the customer is lost because you've sold them a broken piece of equipment? I know stuff happens, it is an old console and sometimes you get a bad apple, but after calling them up again, they offered for me to bring the unit back for additional testing and completely refusing to take my phone number so they can at least call us when they do have a system in stock. I don't have the time for the constant trips back and forth just for confirmation of what we already know. I was able to purchase another console elsewhere and it works beautifully with every game I own, so it is definitely the system. The runaround was annoying. You need to provide full refunds to individuals if equipment does not work and you no longer have stock. My time is worth money, so is yours, so you can recognize that wasting it is not beneficial for anyone involved. Bad customer service over the phone is common, but in this situation, they seemed rude about it. What do you expect? You sold broken equipment and I had an employee admit that it probably should not have been sold to me. What a joke! Please clean and test everything you receive on a trade. Never shopping here again. read more

** Gamers Pawn Shop ** ** Nice Prices ** ** Unicorn what??! ** Let me begin by saying I am a runner, not a gamer. Last time I played games was in an actual game room, or on a Tandy-TRS-80. (Circa...1980's!) I can also say that I am a minimalist. (I don't like to buy, store and collect CD's/DVD's). I'd also like to add that when customer number 1 is talking to the guy behind the counter about how to play a certain game, and the second guy behind the counter and customer #2 start chiming in and talking about what button to mash in order to effectively toss the rainbow striped unicorn at the one eyed juggling midget in order to kill it in the game, I really have no clue at all what these folks are talking about! So all that said, why am I in Cool Stuff?! Because I have 3 teen boys, and they are not runners, and they are not minimalists! They love games and occasionally DVD's. There are tons of games and lots of DVD's for folks to browse through. And the general rule seems to be that if you've got some games or DVD's that you no longer want, bring them in and it is generally a 2 for 1 trade for items of equal value. Or, can sell outright, or you can buy the games or movies you want for cash. Most DVD's seem to run about 1.99. Can't beat that price. So my objective overview: A good shop that serves a needed purpose. An alternative to shopping at more expensive places like Game Stop. My kids love it, and I find it much easier on the wallet than Game Stop or Best Buy. read more

I don't go into game-pawn shops much, probably because I've always purchased my games brand new and would sell old ones on craigslist. However I've reached that age where I begin to reminiscent on things from my childhood. One of those "back in my day.." type moments. So I've made the best attempts of keeping a number of my vintage games and devices like my Gameboy or NES. Unfortunately, being the young fool I was, I sold a great number of classics for the hip, new games and consoles that came out. I googled and this place was the first thing that popped up. Might not be the most creative name, or in the most appealing location, but they sure do make up for what they offer. The place is pretty large for a game shop. They have all sorts of materials besides games such as DVDs, Blue-ray, CDs, Comics, VHS, collectors item toys, ect. I didn't look too much into that because I was more interested in the games. They have a huge collection of consoles, games, controllers, and accessories. All at very fair prices. From what I understand after talking to a couple of the guys working there, they buy the consoles and controllers and test and clean them and make sure they are in the best condition possible before putting them out to sell. Anything that needs fixing then send them out to be repaired. They do a great job of reconditioning a lot of these old relics. They have almost everything game related you could think of and they are willing to help you out with anything they can. I purchased some vintage consoles, controllers, and games from them. Slowly trying to recover my old gaming collection! These guys will pretty much buy, sell, trade, almost anything related to games, media, and entertainment. Just remember that anything you buy, keep the receipt! You can't return anything for cash value after you purchase it, can only be exchanged for store credit. read more
