I live near Cookie Zombie and take evening walks past it all the time. After countless walks by, I finally decided to give it a try on a Saturday evening. It's tucked away in an out-of-the-way spot in North Redondo, but the good news is there's plenty of parking. It's also close to the bike path if you want to ride over. Just be careful in the evening because the zombies driving around in cars don't always seem to see cyclists very well. I was impressed by the selection. There were probably a dozen different cookies to choose from. I asked the friendly guy at the counter for recommendations, and he pointed me toward a few customer favorites. Next came the wait. It seems they actually bake the cookies fresh rather than pulling them from a display case and tossing them into a box. The wait was probably about 10 minutes. If you're in a hurry, I'd recommend ordering ahead. We took our cookies home and sampled them while watching TV. We cut them in half and put a few pieces in a bowl so we could try several flavors. Yum. These cookies are delicious. And no, these are not the kind of cookies I could easily make at home or replicate with a store-bought log of cookie dough. Cookie Zombie is clearly using quality ingredients and tried-and-true recipes. The result is a seriously good cookie. I'm glad I finally stopped by. They have over a dozen different cookies to choose from and best of all they bake them fresh!! Thats right they bake them fresh for you when you order. The business is located in the cut, in a small business strip located in a residential area and a small park. We came on a late Saturday afternoon and it was not busy yet. There was only one person working so it took a bit to place our orders, since the guy went to the back after each order to put the cookies for that order into the oven. There are a few tables and chairs and benches in front of the business to wait for your order. (Inside is only for walking in to order. No seating.) The wait wasn't long and we were rewarded with some freshly baked, hot and delicious cookies! Definitely worth the wait. As you can see from the pictures, the presentation looks good. We sat outside and enjoyed our treats. They also offer drinks, including milk, cold brew coffee and water, Thrifty brand ice cream, and a selection of "merch". They are open late on the weekend. C is for Cookie Zombie! It was 10pm and we had serious dessert cravings after dinner, so thank you, Yelpers, for helping us find such an amazing treat. We were pleasantly surprised that the cookies are made fresh to order, they text you when it's ready, usually in about 10-12 minutes. Good thing we live close by, because it was still warm by the time we got home. We all dug in, cookie by cookie. You'll definitely want a glass of milk or coffee alongside, but it's so worth it. I was recently in town and excited that they were open, because they are usually open in the evenings, late evening evenings. Amazing bake-to-order cookies! Went for an after dinner dessert. Was in a quiet neighborhood in a plaza that was pretty dimly lit. Sort of fits the name of the store. Went in - there's about 15ish types of cookies available. Most sounded pretty good so we ordered a dozen cookies to try a few - they are small, but not bite sized. After about 15 min the cookies were ready and we picked them up. They were piping hot - which makes for an amazing cookie. The worker also threw in a few extra cookies and a milk as well since it was our first time. My favs were the OMFG (basically a little bit of cookie dough with a bunch of chocolate inside), the fig cookie (kind of like a fig newton), the peanut butter cookie (forgot the name of it - but it has like Reese's pieces in it I think), and the chocolate cookie with white chocolate. We tried their original chocolate chip, pb x darth squish, and chocolate blueberry. I really enjoyed the chocolate chip and pb cookies. My wife liked the blueberry the most because it wasn't chocolaty at all. It's like a gooey blueberry muffin. I think they also threw in a couple extra because I thought a half dozen would have 6 but there were 7 or 8 in the box. They also write your name in cool lettering on the side of the box which is a nice personalized touch. I would definitely order again and try more flavors or more of the same. Exact same quality but the size is the same however, this business is charging over $2 per cookie. Stop by and see the display on the counter and see the actual size of the cookies, it genuinely feels like a rip off ($26 for a dozen). I'm all for supporting small businesses but when you're going to purchase something that you can do for yourself, you're expecting something better and/or different that you can't do yourself. These were a perfect nighttime dessert treat for my son and his friends during a video game meetup at our house--warm and fresh out of the oven. I liked being able to get 4 different types so each kid got to pick a flavor. We've been getting Cookie Zombie back to the days when they were sold at a small store in El Segundo. I found this new location by pure chance while biking by, and was happy to see that they have a storefront now. The owners have always had a good sense of style/whimsy--the whole zombie vibe has always delighted our kids, and the new store has these neat old Western flickering lanterns out front; it's fun to visit at night. Also check out the calligraphy of my name on the box! Very clever/fun. The cookie size is perfect to me. We've tried doing the jumbo cookies like Levain in Larchmont Village, Crumbl in Hawthorne, and Lazy Acres Hermosa/Bristol Farms Manhattan (LA & BF are really the same store, I found out!), but those big thick cakey cookies are just too much. You feel obligated to eat the whole thing and feel sick afterward. This size seems to strike a better balance. I'm happy to see Cookie Zombie still around and with their own storefront now, and with the late night hours. We've done Insomnia Cookies in Westwood too for late-night (yeah we're kinda cookie obsessed--at least my son is--or I like to pretend he's the culprit and not me!), but Westwood is pretty sketchy and empty at night, so it feels a bit unsafe at 10pm (who would've thought? Back in the 80s Westwood was packed on a Friday night). This area of North Redondo feels much safer on a Friday night at 10pm. It's the best nighttime dessert in the South Bay. read more
