    Hazelnut Latte

A coworker brought some Craft Dessert Bar cookies to try - chocolate chip, pistachio white chocolate, and hazelnut latte. Pistachio white chocolate was on the sweeter side out of the three, but it wasn't overly sweet. Really liked the pistachio in the cookie. Chocolate chip was delicious. But my current favorite is the hazelnut latte. You can taste hazelnut and coffee and it wasn't overly sweet either. The cookie packaging was simple. Overall, all three cookies taste yummy and would love to order some other ones to try.

The Blueberry Yogurt one really tasted like eating a cup of blueberry yogurt. The dollop of yogurt was nice and the blueberries were plump and fresh. The Hojicha one also had great flavor. I liked the nutiness of it. The cereal, dalgona, and red bean also added good flavors and textures. I like how the flavorings were embedded in layers throughout the bingsoo. The ice itself was okay though. It could've been softer and smoother, but still good nonetheless. The flavors and toppings really carried the bingsoos. I'd recommend both flavors. The cafe interior is super cute too. Love the design. I saw some people with laptops, so this could be a potential work/study spot? There's also lots of free parking underground.

When scanning the shops for a caffeination boost, I couldn't stop thinking about the "Over Caffeinated Cold Brew Float" I saw advertised at Moom Maam. So intriguing! I circled back and ordered the indulgent morning treat, slightly skeptical of such a mix. I'm happy to report though that yes, it was a monstrosity to have first thing in the morning but I'd do it again in a second. You get to pick what flavor gelato is in the coffee and I went with chocolate to which they replied, great choice! I agree, it was such a good mix with the cold coffee brew. The gelato was so creamy with amazing flavor, I can't wait to come back and try more off their menu!

Self-proclaimed as "CA's first Thai gelato", Moom Maam began as a pop-up in the Wat Thai Food Court in North Hollywood in 2021. Owner Saran "Darwin" Wai translated his molecular biology degree into the science of ice cream, earning features in Eater LA and the Los Angeles Times. Nowadays, Moom Maam operates a brick-and-mortar stall out of the Del Amo Fashion Center, but you can still catch them every Sunday at Smorgasburg LA. In brief, Smorgasburg is a Sunday-only, open-air food market at Alameda Produce Market in Downtown LA. Parking in ROW RTLA's dedicated parking garage is quick and easy, with 2 hours complimentary. Bathrooms are located out of the market, a short walk down the graffiti art side street. A questionably clean water bottle filling station is available at the entrance. Smorgasburg is pay-as-you-go, and the tenured vendors serve upscale street food with a Pan-Asian or Pan-Latin American bent. My family and I visited Smorgasburg in the early afternoon for lunch, and we were drawn to the desserts. We opted for a Special Gelato Bowl, featuring a brittle coconut waffle wafer and coconut sticky rice. After trying several flavors, we decided on the true-to-taste Thai Tea and the masa-forward Blue Corn w/ Goat Milk Caramel. Other flavors we tried included the Strawberry Balsamic (a refreshing sorbet with a La Croix-esque hint of balsamic), the Soba & Tsuyu Caramel (strongly wheat-flavored), and the Durian Mezcal Drift (pleasantly toned-down in pungency). Broadly, the gelato was a bit melty, becoming runny even before taking a bite. The sticky rice provided an addictive Q texture, but it was hidden away beneath the scoops. The line ebbed and flowed, but we caught the stall at a good time. Our ice cream costed $17, and the portion felt modest at best. Overall, we agreed that Moom Maam offered fun flavors and a unique serving style, but the overall experience wouldn't be worth a return visit.

The black sesame bingsoo was my favorite - the ice was super fine and snow-like, light and easy to enjoy. It leaned a bit sweeter than other bingsoo spots I've tried, but was still very good. The second bingsoo was a more classic snow bowl with red bean and mochi on top, simple but enjoyable. The space felt clean and traditional, with good service. Decor: cute decor with books on the side and a few tables inside. Service: efficient and speedy. Menu/food: I really like their bingsoo a lot, but what I really love is their boong-uh-ppang (taiyaki). I also love their red bean, which is not too sweet but rich and flavorful. They advertise that the red bean is imported from Korea, and it really is better than most other places. When the taiyaki comes out piping hot with crispy exterior and chewy inside with red bean, it's sooo good. I like their custard filling too. Probably best taiyaki I've had anywhere in southern Cal. I had stopped coming here for a while and when we came back, we noticed that the menu expanded a bit, and now they have some fruit based bingsoo. Recommend trying once. Their rice cakes are good too, very chewy and fresh.

Then the owner was at the Japanese garden for December Nights so I could see how nice the candy looks in person, she was offering a discount... and I placed an order. In recent years it feels like everyone I know has been placed on one special medical diet or another. It's so hard these days to find pre-prepared food that multiple people can enjoy, and when I do it usually isn't particularly impressive. These candies are dairy free, gluten free, sodium free, low in sugar, and beautifully packaged in a way that feels like you're really getting something special. The taste of these is mildly sweet and mildly flavored. The texture is the best part, with soft centers, firm exteriors, and fun crunchy "rock" bits: great contrasts. I'm not a big fan of Japanese sweets, but if you are, these are a prime example. But honestly? Mostly I'm grateful for having a special food to share with my loved ones.
