    Sliced Honey Cake
    Vic S.

Absolute danger zone for anyone trying to eat clean. Every single thing looked unreal, but the Honey Cake stole the show -- hands down the best thing there. Perfect balance, rich without being too heavy, and ridiculously fresh. The Chocolate Cake came in strong at a close second... deep flavor, smooth texture, and not overly sweet like most places. You can tell this bakery actually cares about quality instead of just making things look pretty for Instagram. Friendly people, clean spot, and the smell alone when you walk in should be illegal. Definitely one of those places you try once and then keep coming back for "just one slice."

Love this little bakery! I've been meaning to try this place, but never really found myself in the area. The bakery is very clean, modern with some seating indoor and outdoor to enjoy the fresh air. They had a variety of cake cups; it was very hard to narrow myself down to two. I tried the spinach cake and the chocolate crunchy hazelnut. Both were delicious! The spinach cake had a citrus hue to it and had nice pieces of raspberry in it. Hard to believe it was spinach at first, but we saw pieces in it! The chocolate crunchy hazelnut cake had a nice pieces of the crunch it in, which complimented the chocolately flavor so well! The cakes were light and had the tastiest whipped cream layers. Hoping to try more of their flavors in the future like their honey cake, cookies and cream cake, and pear cake!

The most beautiful Carrot Cake I've ever seen and it tasted even better! I needed a carrot cake for a dinner party. Called all over town but couldn't find one. Looked on Yelp & found Cake N Bake. They had one & said they'd put it aside for me. Customer Service was so thoughtful & the Carrot Cake was amazing. Fresh, not oily, not heavy, it was 3 or 4 layers with the most amazing fresh whipped cream with a hint of cream cheese.

    Tres leches and birdie

The good: I've had this place bookmarked since they've opened! It's rare to find places that make honey cake so I was psyched about this place offering that. I tried the birdie (like honey cake but with custard and chocolate ganache), tres leches with berries, chocolate cherry cake and a hazelnut with vanilla cake. The tres leches was my favorite. The flavor tasted like mascarpone and it was light and not too sweet (the ultimate Asian compliment). I liked their indoor/outdoor space and covered patio area. Water was self-serve. They serve whole cakes for around $60. Individual slices are in small plastic containers. They're walking distance from the beach and you can see the ocean from their patio. The space is bright, modern, and clean. The bad: They seemed to offer some pastries too but they weren't on display (I just saw them on a tray behind the counter). I would've liked more crunch and more nuts in the hazelnut cake. A wafer or crunchy layer would've been great. The interesting: The bakery is Armenian owned but they make honey cake as well (originally Russian, but very popular in other countries too like Ukraine). I found free street parking across the street but it was 1 hour only. You don't often find hazelnut cake that isn't paired with chocolate (though they also had a chocolate hazelnut cake).

Cake n Bake is hands down my new favorite bakery (+ coffee + pastry) shop in Hermosa! From the moment you step inside the light and airy shop - which offers both indoor and outdoor patio seating - you're greeted by Sash, who radiates warmth and friendliness. He takes the time to walk you through all the amazing flavors - honey, birdie, berry, choco-raspberry, choco-Nutella, and spinach are amongst the most popular - and makes super thoughtful recommendations. And the cakes? Out of this world! Every single one is handcrafted to perfection -- gorgeously-presented, moist, flavorful, and beautifully-balanced. The textures are spot-on: soft, pillowy sponge layers with delicious fillings. A few personal favorites so far: - Choco-Crunchy Hazelnut: chocolate cake with fluffy caramel filling and delightfully-crunchy caramelized hazelnut! - Honey Cake: many-layered cake with honey and caramel. SOMEONE STOP ME! I'M SUPPOSED TO BE DIETING! - Carrot Cake: WOW! This spice cake is filled with carrots, nuts, raisins, and coconut, interspersed with mascarpone and cream cheese. Beyond scrumptious cakes, Cake n Bake also offers savory and sweet puff pastries, cheesecakes, tiramisu, delightful gift boxes of mini treats, and even a chic assortment of candles. Whether you're picking up a custom cake, ordering cute slices to share, or just indulging in a little self-care dessert moment, Cake n Bake delivers pure joy! Can't wait to try the pear and birdie flavors next time!

This pretty new spot has great tasting pastries with quality ingredients! You can literally taste the quality. The ambience is pretty minimalistic, but that is the style now nowadays. There aren't many outlets, but they do have a plug-in for USB charging. The seating close to the street is balcony style, which you can see the ocean sky and the five way traffic intersection, which is pure chaos I got a chance to meet Alex who partially owns the business with his family and he gave me excellent service and even gave me a free drink and samples! Shout out to Alex!! The items I tried: Berry mini cake, carrot cake, tiramisu latte! All of them were good .

We had to try a slice of the Birdy cake!

When tasked with bringing dessert to Thanksgiving dinner with new friends, I knew I wanted to leave this to the professionals. I was so excited to find that Cake N Bake had opened recently in Hermosa Beach! I already had them on my radar because I am obsessed with the look of their honey cake - though that is not what I went with this time. I gave each of my kids the list of cakes to choose from and told them to pick their top three favorites and I would pick the final one! I was surprised that they overlapped two out of three so I made the executive decision to go with chocolate as a compliment to the other items we would be taking. I was so grateful that Cake N Bake are very quick to respond to messages on Yelp so they answered my questions before and after I ordered. I was able to order closer to the date of the holiday too which helped since we needed time to decide what to get. Plus, I love that I could get the cake delivered so I didn't have to run around and be crazy on the morning of Thanksgiving. It showed up in great shape. The Choco-Crunchy Hazelnut Cake was a hit on Thanksgiving! The cake is super moist and I love that the frosting has a good caramel flavor to it that compliments the chocolate cake and feels sturdy holding the cake together. You can tell that the ingredients are better than store-bought cakes based on the texture and flavor. Two days after and I am still enjoying slices of the cake and it still looks pretty and tastes great! When I ordered, I wanted to try the Birdy cake too and split a slice with my daughter. I did not tell her that it was honey because she says she doesn't like honey but she loved this cake! She'd never really had a good ganache before either and she raved about it. I love that they offer their cakes in individual slices and I can't wait to go try the Honey Cake and I am super curious about the Spinach cake. I want to try them both while sitting on their patio with a coffee.

It's so nice to have a new bakery in the neighborhood for a change . There's really nothing else like it around. Sure, parking can be a bit of a pain but just like everywhere else u can make it work the short walk is absolutely worth it. The tres leches is out of this world, and the honey cake is pure magic. A wonderful new addition to the community Service beyond friendly and welcoming

Amazing service and a variety of cakes to choose from! Love their website and the fact that you can essentially get small samplers of the cakes and pick up within an hour of placing your order. Quality and attention to detail is noticeable in every pastry. Beautiful location where you can sit on the patio and enjoy an ocean view at the same time!

Because there was only one other person there, the lady behind the counter said she would find me, which she did. She delivered my drink first. Afterwards, she personally delivered my avocado toast with a side salad, served on a wooden chopping block. It all looked good. Well presented. From the first bite of my avocado toast, it was delicious because of the freshly baked bread. A nice, thick dark bread. DineLA Food & Drink Order ($15): Breakfast Plate: Blueberry Cinnamon Pancakes with 2 Bacon Strips & 2 Eggs (sunny-side up) $15.95 Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte $6.95 Server/Bartender: Andrew I have been a long time fan of Kirari West Bake Shop when it opened with much fanfare as a 100% gluten-free Japanese bakery with treats that defy the common undesirable traits of gluten-free goods: dense, dry, &/or gritty. When Kirari West Bake Shop (refer to Review #290) opened sister bakery, Confections by Kirari West, a couple of years ago, I bookmarked them for a visit but didn't get around to it until I saw them on 2026 DineLA. The confections bakery also sits in King Harbor Plaza, but south of its sister between Glaze Craze & King Harbor Spa, serving all-day breakfast, burger, sandwiches, & pizzas with teas, coffees, & smoothies. According to Andrew, KWBS bakes bread for CBKW & CBKW bakes treats & doughnuts for KWBS. Still not quite understanding the difference because KWBS also serves breakfast but in sandwiches & french toasts, & paninis, sandwiches, & salads. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Initially focused solely on baked goods: artisan breads, scones, & Bake-At-Home gluten-free flour mixes, CBKW has evolved their menu to include sandwiches, pizza, quinoa bowls, & smoothies. The DineLA menu offered 3 options, & I deliberated between pancakes & chicken burger. I chose the Blueberry Cinnamon Pancakes because they looked fluffy & divine in the owner pic; it includes 2 Bacon Strips & 2 Eggs (cooked sunny-side up). And picked an Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte with less ice for my drink. It was quiet for an early lunch, & a couple of ladies walked in after I finished ordering. The bakery cafe has its cozy charm with a lovely black & white mural on the right long wall that's great for selfies or social posts. There's 4 2-tops & counter seating facing the plaza/parking lot, no restroom (assuming sister KWBS will let you use theirs), & plenty of parking though it'll be challenging during lunch & dinner rush with so many eateries in the plaza. Andrew makes an awesomely refreshing Strawberry Matcha Latte that rivals those from boba shops! Balanced sweetness with earthy, grassy matcha & generous dollops of real, sweet strawberry purée... soooooo good! Though smaller & a bit pricier than boba shops, it's a top-notch drink. My pancakes came shortly after; smells great but looks nothing like the pic, not fluffy, not golden. I love eating pancakes no matter the time of day, & these Blueberry Cinnamon Pancakes had comforting notes of cinnamony warmth with random sweet bursts of blueberries. The texture is notably moist & airy, & not reminiscent of typical gluten-free foods which are dry & dense. Typical bacon & eggs, nothing unusual... I prefer thick cut bacon & on the crisper side, but the eggs were perfectly cooked, the whites were set with a runny yolk & crisp, brown edges. It was just enough to satisfy my hunger & quench my thirst. I'm lucky that I don't have any food allergies or restrictions. People with celiac disease require a gluten-free diet, & cooking/baking challenges stem from the lack of gluten for moisture, elasticity, & structure. Customers should know that Confections by Kirari West is a dedicated gluten-free bakery, so there's no worries of cross-contamination. I don't know how Chef Hiro Saito creates this tasty, gluten-free deliciousness here & KWBS... he uses high quality rice flour instead of wheat to create his delectable pastries. On 07/2025, CBKW along with sister KWBS were both designated as a Blue Zones Project Approved Restaurant. This means they're certified to offer healthier, longevity-focused menu options based on plant-slant & whole-food principles like those in Okinawa, Japan or Sardinia, Italy. Quality ingredients... craftsmanship... & sincerity... check, check, & check!! Yeah, I got you in my corner Confections by Kirari West! The food came out pretty quickly (that tends to happen with sandwiches and salads) and it was a perfectly fine panini. We ordered a turkey salad and a Parisian baguette, first off my salad had a lot of old lettuce in it. The fresh ingredients tasted just ok, like low tier super market brand food. From a culinary standpoint, the salad could've benefited from sliced almonds or something crunchy. The Parisian baguette bread was very hard tough, with a decent amount of ham, but not enough spread or cheese.. The cashier did admit that they don't bake their own items instead a "fresh "delivery shows up every morning. I will not be coming back, but I wish them the best.
