We stopped here during a roadtrip out to TN. The drive thru was busy so we decided to go in. The doors were locked and another customer was next to us also waiting. After about a minute or two, an employee came to unlock the door and apologized, that they were running behind that morning. We used the restrooms before ordering, allowing the other customer to order first. The bathrooms were definitely not cleaned over night. Considering we were the first ones to use the restrooms of the day, that's not a good look. When we came out, the customer was still waiting at the counter. From the time we were waiting for the door to be unlocked to getting our food, we had waited well over 30 minutes and the drive thru had been completely cleared out. I was tempted to just go into the drive thru instead. Service was SLOW inside. The food was hot and good and when we were helped, they were friendly. First time coming to a Cook-out after seeing the long drive thru lines and small of char broiled burgers for weeks. The restaurant was fairly clean and enough seating for crowds there. The combo menus start out at $7.99 and include a sandwich, two sides and drink. They are able to be customized from there. I got the big double burger "cheddar style" which adds cheddar cheese, bacon, grilled onions and mayo. The burger was good, fries and cheese bites were also fresh. I can now see the reason for the packed drive through every time I drive by with the amount of food you get and the price. It's a good deal for the prices these days. I don't have any pictures of food from here because when my family gets takeout from Cook Out, I'm usually starving and forget all about everything else. I literally only eat one standard meal from here, but my family has tried just about everything and they keep returning, so I assume it's all good. My DIL prefers their hotdogs, while my son loves the burgers. We always get the tray option: one entree, two sides (or double up the sides), and either one very large soda or a regular shake. Very affordable. Shakes are not bad, like a frosty in consistency. Very generous with the candy/cookie additions. So, what do I eat? The cheese & chicken quesadilla (comes with two) and a double up of their fried cheese nuggets (curds). (I never said this was healthy!) The quesadillas are better than my fave TB, tender with tasty sauce. The fried cheese nuggets are yummy. It's a once in a while treat, and satisfying. The serving sizes of all is just right, not too big or too little. This place gets a lot of criticism, but seriously, when you go through the drive-thru, it's always backed up around the building. Zero stars. We went in today around 1pm. I went to the restroom to change my daughter before we ordered. First of all, they do not have changing tables in either rest rooms. I can get past that as many restaurants do not have them. However when we exited the stall, an employee was either vaping or smoking in the rest room. The "Cook Out" in statesville is the first I have ever been in. Since this is my first visit I cannot really say how this store is other than this visit. The food was good and about what I expected. The service was friendly and prompt. I particularly like the concept of this store. It reminds me of the "Hardee's" of the 1970's. The charbroiled burgers and great hot dogs. Cookout guarantees on their cups that they'll get your food right with a number to call. They also quote Biblical scripture to mislead you into thinking they're a Christian company that cares about their customers. However, the way I was mistreated by their manager Daniel P, was NOT Christian. He admitted he got my order wrong, but wouldn't replace it. When I reminded him of his policies, he made a scene in front of multiple customers whose orders were also wrong. He then tossed a cup out the window and told me to call management. He closed the window and locked it. When I finally got through to their corporate number, the guy I spoke with listened to my concerns and told me the owner Matthew H. would call me to hear my concerns. This was April 10. Today's review is brought to you by the letter C. We all know that C is for Cookie, and Cookie is for me. C is also for another fun word that I occasionally toss around like confetti, much to the dismay of those around me. But C is perhaps most importantly for Cook Out. C is for Chargrilled perfection. Not all burgers must be cooked to a medium temperature to taste their best. Often you want some of that good char on your meat (C is for Carcinogenic), and I've found no other place that does it as well. C is for Cook Out Style, which is how you should try your burger at least once (add 65 cents), even if you're like me and not a fan of adding other meat to a burger (C is for Chili - especially beefy at Cook Out). On a trip through NC, I introduced a friend from Malaysia to Cook Out and she instantly fell in love with what she thenceforth referred to as The Curry Burger, due to the aromatic flavors from the mustard, turmeric, onion and other spices. Burgers come in 4 sizes, ranging from 1/8 to 1/2 lb. I recommend the Regular. If you're especially hungry, get another Regular instead of the Huge or Large; it tastes better. C is for Chopped Pork BBQ - surprisingly pretty good at this chain. Cook Out started in my hometown of Greensboro, so the BBQ is a Lexington style that it is chopped, rather than pulled or sliced. C is for Corndog, which you can buy here for $1, or add as a side item if you buy a meal (C is for Cook Out Tray - $4 for burger or other sandwich, 2 sides, and a drink). Let me reiterate: Corndog as a side. Their Corndogs are frozen, but have you ever had one that was anything but delicious? C is for Cheese Dog, something I haven't seen offered in many restaurants since the '80s. It's just a hot dog bun filled with cheese and all the hot dog fixin's you'd expect, except for the wiener. C is for Cajun seasoning, an addition you should request on your fries. The cashier will typically not ask whether you want it. Fries at Cook Out are good when they're fresh from the fryer. They don't look like anything special, but they have a perfect crisp shell holding their gooey goodness inside. C is for Coke products, which set Cook Out apart from many down-home NC restaurants, which tend to sell Pepsi. But C is also for Cheerwine, another of NC's great contributions to Western Civilization, proudly served at every Cook Out. Try a Cheerwine float; it's delicious. C is for Creamery. Cook Out has more than 40 milkshakes to help bring the boys to the yard. C is for Caramel Fudge, a flavor I highly recommend, and Chocolate Nut and Chocolate Cherry (also great). A few flavors don't quite work; those with banana are rarely blended enough, resulting in the lower third of the cup being a solid mass incapable of being sucked through a straw. Watermelon and Egg Nog are seasonal flavors you might want to try. Make the drink with your Tray a shake for just $1. C is for Come on in! Over the past few years, Cook Out has expanded beyond offering only drive-thru and walk-up service. This is one of the locations with a dining room. It's decorated in lots of NASCAR crap and plays Jesus rock loudly. It's always filled with local high schoolers, and in a place like Statesville, that means lots of ball caps, cowboy hats, rolled-up sleeves and conversations that sound like the worst rendition of Dueling Banjos ever. Everything looks clean and new inside EXCEPT for the restroom, which looks decades older than the rest of the building and is never clean. This location is a regular stop on my trip between Atlanta and the Triad. On my most recent visit, I got an angry glare from the guy at the table beside mine because I was joyfully lost in the appreciation of my milkshake, sucking every last drop from the cup. Excuse me, Cletus... Apparently my slurping had interrupted the pre-meal exorcism he and his son were performing over their food. C is for Cheap. Cook Out costs a hell of a lot less than a place like Five Guys, and offers much better food. I rarely spend more than $8, including tax, for a huge meal at Cook Out. C is for Cons, of which Cook Out does have a few, unfortunately... C is for Chicken, which you should avoid in pretty much all its forms here. From the nuggets and strips to the chicken breast sandwiches, just skip them because they're nothing to rave about. C is for Cup of Mustard, which is what you get when you ask for that condiment. Cook Out doesn't buy single-serve packs of mustard, so if you want some, you'll be given a 4 oz. Styrofoam cup with lid, with about 1-2 oz. of yellow mustard in it. Wasteful... C is for Christians. Not necessarily a negative in itself, but Cook Out's devout owners occasionally straddle that line between things I couldn't care less about when I choose to give my money to a business and things that make me question whether that money is being used for more good than evil. But, in the end, C is for Cook Out. And Cook Out is, indubitably, for me. Overall, 9/10. read more

This Cookout is wonderful. I go once every week or two. Usually invest in one of the Big Double Burger trays with a huge tea. Overall, good food, fast service, and to die for milkshakes. My tip for the newcomers, if you go through the busy drive-thru, check your bag before you leave. Several times I've left and then realized they messed up or forgot part of my food. Once ordered a two hot dog tray and a tray for my girlfriend. The bag had her tray and one of my hotdogs. The teenagers inside had to get a manager because they thought I said I ordered 12 hotdogs. I was on the return leg of a road trip and saw a billboard for Cook Out on I-40. A short drive up the road I found Cook Out. The drive-thru line was around the building (a good sign). The line inside was short but the dining area was nearly packed. I ordered a Huge burger with grilled onions, hush puppies and a blueberry shake. The wait was only a few minutes and I headed for my car to continue my journey. The burger was one of the best I've had in a long time. The hush puppies were delicious and not too greasy.
