Well that sucked. Fresh Chef was one of our go to spots since it opened and now its under new ownership with a new name. No where near as good and the ingredients taste cheap. You can just tell. They are changing their name and no longer have a gluten free menu or safe fryers. They are not fresh foods. We had a kind server that kept asking if items were gluten free, and everything was pre-made or pre-packaged. What a disappointment after all the great reviews. Signage hasn't changes, not sure if ambiance will be updated or remain the same. GF and celiac should avoid!! read more

As a traveler, landing in the Fresh Chef Kitchen, good healthy food with the friendliest bartender, was a win-win. She really made our experience so much better. Helped us order, gave us excellent drinks, and friendly advice about getting on the highway early to avoid Charlotte traffic. I am rating Fresh Chef an OK or 3/5 stars because of the outstanding wine we enjoyed on our visit. It was a Thursday evening and bottles are 1/2 off. It was a fabulous bottle for $32.50! The wait staff were excellent, knowledgeable, and attentive. Dinner, however, left a lot to be desired. I often visit the Denver, NC location and the food is always excellent and well prepared. Tonight, I ordered the shrimp entree with broccoli and cilantro rice. The broccoli and rice were pretty good. The shrimp was overcooked and I did not enjoy it. My dinner guest ate less than half of her food, the Chicken Picata. I was pretty disappointed with the food preparation. I will continue to visit the Denver location and may perhaps try the Cornelius location one day soon. read more

Visited this location for a work lunch and was so pleasantly surprised. I've been to quite a few other Fresh Chefs around the area, but this one might be a favorite. Our servers were so attentive and kind, it really made a difference in our experience. We had a rather large party, about 20 people, and we were served with efficiency and kindness. It was impressive. I ordered the Black and Bleu Salad with steak. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly and was really flavorful. The portions are huge, too! Don't get the key lime pie. I don't think I have ever tasted anything worse in my life than a bite of that pie. On a brighter note, I got the Chicken Piccata dish and it was great. It is a kind of strip mall with several chain restaurants, all next to each other. It is a little pricey but not too bad with daily specials like $12 Meatloaf Monday. Clean modern decor with several TVs. Late 70 s early 80 s music, which I like. Meat loaf was fairly good, not spectacular. Garlic mash potatoes would have tasted good if they were at least warm. ( they did offer to replace them). Asparagus was very good. The Thai pork salad was excellent with a crunchy salad and juicy pork and a sweet sauce on the side just as I like it. Service was pleasant and willing, but food took way too long to arrive; hence, the cold mashed potatoes. There was a surprise "service charge" for credit cards; be ready to pay cash. read more

My husband and I had some errands to run in Statesville and decided to have lunch at Fresh Chef. After reviewing several restaurants in the area, we chose Fresh Chef because the online menu seemed to have some healthier options. The restaurant was cute, clean and had lots of seating available. The hostess was friendly and sat us within a few minutes after our arrival. Our server was Junior and he was great. Very professional and attentive. We stared out with the ahi tuna app. The wasabi sauce seemed a little odd- the color and texture was different. A little creamer than I'm used to. The tuna was good. We were both hoping for wraps based on what we saw online, but the menu didn't include any. I ordered the mahi tacos I saw on the special board and then we asked the server if they had wraps. He advised they do have them, just not on the menus they gave us. My husband ordered the Hawaiian chicken wrap based on his memory from our research. We both ordered side salads with the dressing that seems to come with it, and it was good. The special board didn't give a description of the tacos-I just took a chance on what would be on them. Server didn't offer info and I didn't ask. The tacos were good. Not a lot of texture, flour tortilla overpowered ingredients. My husband wasn't impressed with his wrap. Because it wasn't on the menu and, again, we didn't ask what was on it, he didn't love the ingredients. He said the honey mustard didn't "go" with everything else. But he did say without it, or some sort of sauce, it would have been very dry. Only giving 4 stars because I didn't LOVE my food. It was fresh, it was good, but it wasn't something that will leave me craving what we had. However, I would give it another shot and try something else. I saw other patrons order something that looked like spinach dip with tortilla chips that looked excellent . Fresh Chef also has great drink specials. Came in Saturday October 11th from 10-11:15 with my partner for a brunch double date. Throughout the entire time, there were plenty of open tables. Got the California Benedict on the cauliflower biscuit, and the food was fine. The manager Terri came over and asked if we were finished around 10:40. One of us was, and she took his plate rather roughly. This normally wouldn't mean too much, but when we finished eating around 10:45, we were asked if we needed anything else. The check came out. I asked for my partner and his food on one check, and our friends checks on the other. From 10:45-11:15, we were asked every 5 minutes if we needed anything else. Around the 5th time, it became clear they were getting impatient with us being there catching up. This seemed rather rude as we've only been there for 50 minutes at that point, and one of us, who's more of a slow eater, was still working on his biscuit. Personally never experienced this sort of rude behavior at a restaurant. It is clear that we, or people like us are not welcome at this establishment. read more

I drove by this little spot not expecting what i found. Very diverse menu with plenty of great options. My server Renae was very friendly and informative. Nothing here is frozen besides ice cream. Fresh meats, everything cooked in house. Not a chance that you do not find something you like. Very modern and uplifting interior. Personal opinion but i liked the green paint they used. We were able to walk in and be seated with no wait. This was around 7:35pm on a Monday. The waitress is attentive and kind. I ordered the Chicken Marsala. My husband ordered half a chicken with mashed potatoes and carrots. The chicken Marsala kind of tasted like it was brown gravy on chicken with mushrooms. My husband said that his meal flavors were kind of bland. Overall, anything to write home about .. not really. Would I give it another try? Yeah I'd give it another go at something different. Everything about this restaurant personifies its name. My mom and I needed to take a halfway point stop from Chapel Hill to Cherokee so Statesville it was. Being a small town NC girl myself, I know you always have to choose the local restaurants over the massive line of chain restaurants if you want really good food. You can tell Fresh Chef is all about the prep work. We had the homemade spinach dip that had pickled jalapeños which igave it that extra yum factor with hot/perfectly salted corn tortilla chips. A lemon drop martini and a Bahamas mama were our drink choices and they were so good. Since my mom is a vegetarian, she has the roasted carrots and grilled Brussels sprouts. I had the chicken salad sandwich which came with a side kale salad and fresh cut fries. I ate only half my food and this is what I had left. They even gave us a free homemade peach cobbler since it was our first time. The service was superb, the restaurant was well decorated, the prices were fair, the food was hot and fresh. We wish we had something similar near us and we will come back when we are in the area. To the owners, chefs and staff, you are doing the restaurant scene right. First time here and the restaurant looked new and inviting. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly and looked inviting. However, first bite was not impressive. The chicken salad was very gooey with no chunks of chicken, also had a very sweet taste. The tomatoes were not ripe. The bread was good, and the majority of the french fries or crisp, however, several were soggy. Two others at the table, one special of the day, mahi-mahi, which was dry, a salmon dish, which my friend said, was very good. For a total bill of $87 for lunch for three people, I would expect a lot better quality. read more

This is by far the best restaurant in Statesville, however, one Thursday night a couple weeks ago we came at 8:30 pm, the doors were locked (The sign on the door said they were open). People were eating, no signs stating why they were closed early, and all while a worker watched us pull on the door and not make any notion that they were closed. We are saddened that this was our go to restaurant and now we will be questioning to go back. With my husband as a retired chef and I have been in the food industry in my teens and 20's, we know the ups and downs with staffing and trying to get closed up to go home, but this is just ridiculous. Ordered the ribs and fries (I totally take the blame for ordering ribs from a place like this but it is 5 mins away so I gave it a shot). Chewy and dry!! Probably been in the warmer bin all day. Horrible just horrible. Wet/soggy fries (from steam in box). Three most of it in trash. I'll give them one more shot but it will be something involving a salad of some sort. Fresh Chef is one restaurant we eat at often because it consistently offers fresh cooked, interesting dishes. The service is great. We have been for lunch, many times for dinner, and sometimes at weird times like 3:00 in the afternoon and we still get the same service and quality dishes. Note their daily specials. Chicken piccata was horrendous, why was it swimming in a white sauce? Chicken was chewy. Beef stir fry? Why ask how do I want it if it's going to be soaked in soy sauce again chewy nasty dog food? It wasn't stir fry but the consistency of risotto but salty and soy. Meatloaf, how do you mess up meatloaf?? Mashed potatoes were good(like school food lol) the worst? The side of grits. Literally a clump of grits, dry and the bits of cheddar cheese really set it apart. I picked up the side of grits in one clump! I added water to it from my glass to show them this is the consistency it should be. Fresh chef in Mooresville is great, this location is NOT. read more
