The place was super packed on a Thursday night and it took a little over 30 minutes to get my food- but it was well worth the wait! This is probably the best hibachi I've ever had. And I have had a lot of hibachi from 5-star restaurants to smaller mom and pop shops. And this is the best. I was working in the area and decided to take to Yelp to find a good, local place for lunch. I looked at the menu and then called to order. I got the spring roll, shrimp hibachi, and a sweet tea. When I arrived the parking lot was packed and the drive through line was pretty long but moved quickly. I paid and parked and they brought my food to the car all in less than 10 minutes after arrival. I decided to dine in the comfort of my car. The spring roll was delicious. Hot, well-seasoned and chocked full of fresh, crisp veggies. I truly wished I'd ordered another but alas I wouldn't have had room. The hibachi was amazing. Super fresh veggies and a large portion of the entree chocked full of shrimp and served with just the right amount of fried rice. So I would really give them a 3.5 if I could. Today was my second experience with Katana Kitchen. My first order was a pick up order and when I got home and bit into the shrimp tempura-my thought was immediately-No! The shrimp had a terrible aftertaste and once I bit into it I could tell the shrimp did not smell pleasant! I called the restaurant and they said I could bring it back. I was not driving back over there so I was able to receive my money back through the app. Today I decided to dine in to see if maybe the experience was different. The spring rolls were hot and delicious and so were the dumplings. Decided to get the ninja bowl so my grandson and I could share it. Bit into the scallop and immediately-No. It had an aftertaste and a weird smell. Smelled the shrimp before I decided to taste it and it smelled "ok" bit into it and again-immediately No! The manager came over and I told her my experience and she was apologetic and brought out more steak and chicken to compensate. Fast food, with veggies and a focus on Asian-type sauces and preparation. The food is cooked to order (at least in part), so ordering 15-minutes ahead is a good idea. We had a teriyaki shrimp bowl with fried egg, mixed veggies, quinoa & brown rice, and a hibachi chicken & shrimp bowl with kimchi, broccoli, and mushrooms. The single size (the shrimp) was a good quantity, the double-size (chicken & shrimp) was a big portion. We found this to be a pleasant step up from regular fast food (McDonald's, Popeye's, Wendy's, Burger King, etc.), and a nice change of pace. That said, despite the vegetables, the choice of things to go with the primary protein, the rice (or quinoa, etc.), it still had the high-sodium feel of corporate fast food. At the end of our lunch, neither of us thought we'd come back anytime soon. Yes, the ingredients, sauces and options sound great -- but it still tastes like highly processed food. And lunch for two (no drinks, just the two bowls) was $35.86, so not inexpensive. I'm glad we tried it, I might go back again, but then again, I might not. read more

This is a tough rating to give because the food is so good. But the service is slow as a turtle on Christmas. We come here often but it's always so slow to get food. Today it's not even busy and my daughter brought food from fast food and I simply ordered one plate - no specialty or changes. Chicken teriyaki with fried rice and extra sauce. It has been over 25 mins and the place is nowhere near busy. This is embarrassing and I'm sick of waiting. I'm literally thinking about leaving. But here's the thing I DESPISE the most. And a lot of places do this. They ask you for a TIP at the register before you ever get your food. And on top of that, the screen starts at 15%. Today I gave 15%. And now I've waited nearly 30 mins. And I feel like the price is actually less than many of the hibachi places I'm used to going to. The yum yum sauce was good, veggies were cooked to perfection, it was all around delicious. My friend got the chicken bowl with the Asian bbq sauce. Huge chunks of chicken (no gristly, chewy pieces) with broccoli. The sauce was really nice. A little sweet, a tiny bit of heat. Again, delicious and a huge portion! We also got the fried gyoza which were so good I could've ate 30 of them. I like my gyoza pan fried so it has that little crisp on the outside, then of course steamed to soft perfection. These were just right! Plentiful chicken filling, nice garnish with scallions and the dipping sauce was really good. The staff was very friendly and helpful, our food came out piping hot and very quick. I have always loved Katana. My family and I eat there as much as possible. However, we went after church yesterday to grab lunch. I ordered the lettuce wraps and a side of fried rice. I took a ton of leftovers home for lunch at work on Monday. In the brightness of my office today, I found that the lettuce had multiple dead bugs in it. I have attached a picture. This either tells me the kitchen is not as clean as it should be or that Katana does not wash their lettuce. The rolls weren't bad, but it was hard to find any filling. The interior portion seemed about wide enough for a single strand of cabbage. The salad was just a mix of lettuce with no carrots or anything else. The dressing was tasty. The bowl itself was good, but the scallops had quite a strong flavor. I only ate a couple of them because I was a little worried. There were plenty of shrimp and they were good. The vegetables were tasty. All in all I don't think I'll be back. read more

We were on the prowl for Asian fusion and this trip to Katana Kitchen in Statesville did not disappoint! We're not big "bowl" people but found a lot of other options on the menu and landed at two of the two-for-$5 taco specials (Taco Tuesday) with some kimchi buglogi fries and garlic salmon tacos. The popcorn chicken were over cooked and a bit dry, but the sauces were really good and balanced it out. Reasonable prices - we got a TON of food for $67 including tax and 15% tip - cool building and decor inside, and quick cooking so we didn't have to wait long. Katana Kitchen is definitely the best Japanese/Asian fusion restaurant in Statesville! You have to try the Kimchi Steak Fries! These babies are my absolute favorite menu item from Katana! Skinny French fries smothered in kimchi and cheese then topped with cubes of seasoned steak and drizzles of Katana's signature sauces! I don't know what the sauces are but I love the yummy goodness they add! Not a steak fan?!? No problem, you can substitute chicken or even rice or tofu...heck, you can even add a fried egg! I've been here about 6 times now over the past two months. The first time was great, second time was great, the last four times everything has been going down hill fast! I'm a vegetarian. I understand most people aren't. The issue is that there's really no reason for chicken and steak chunks to get mixed into vegetables yet the past 4 times I've eaten here I've found the meat chunks hidden under the bed of veggies! My typical order is a house salad and hibachi veggies with rice. I truly don't understand if this is accidental cross contamination , purposeful or lack of care but I can't trust the food here anymore. This last time I ordered 2 house salads, a side order of rice and a side order of broccoli. I decided if the broccoli was contaminated I could at least eat the salads and have some rice. Well, big surprise there were chicken bits and chunks in the broccoli! So I give up trying to order any vegetable here. Moved on to the salads. I was given one container of ginger dressing for two salads. Okay I thought, whatever! I proceed to open the to-go containers and I'm met with brown, old, soggy, rotten lettuce. I tried to pick through the two salads and create just one salad but there was a dark brown liquid on some of the pieces of lettuce and I just couldn't do it. I have worked in restaurants, I have managed salad bars and this lettuce was not fresh nor did it look to have been washed!!! Not washing lettuce is a huge issues! If this place is ok with serving unwashed lettuce what else are they not washing??? No one wants to spend $50 on take out when half of the food is inedible! I especially don't want to spend that kind of money only to get two salads that look like this! Lastly, the two sweet teas we ordered were soured. I'm not sure if the tea had been sitting out too long or if they are not washing out the metal containers, but it was foul! I hate what has happened to this place over the course of two months. I was excited about this place at first but I can't justify going back anymore. It's out of my way and only the first 2 visits were good! 4 visits out of 6 visits being bad is just terrible! Plus, for the money spent at this place I could go to Kobe's in Hickory! It's a little further away but at least they have never put meat in the vegetables I've ordered and I've never been served rotting gross salads. read more
