For Asian food in town, this is probably the best one. It is thai so I can't directly compare to a chinese or japanese place, but it is good. There is not a lot of diner usually so you don't have to wait if you choose to dine in. Maybe because they are locate in the quiet side of town. I see mostly to go order. Food is good, not oily, noodles or fried rice are not wet. So strange that some place has wet pad thai like it is chicken noddle. The best food in town, hands-down the Green and Penang curry is my favorite. It was a little thin one time and I called in. They gave me extra food + spring rolls and explains what might've happened. Lousy. Chicken Satay was hard as bc a rock. Peanut sauce was not on chicken but rather on the side and looked like brown toothpaste. The chicken basil was minced and ground up and flavorless. The food is great, service is great. We eat here quite often and try different dishes. The chicken wing platter is a good choice for me and great price. The sesame chicken is new on the menu and very good. You have a choice of rice type as a side (fried, plain, brown etc) Overall it's a favorite place for us to eat and they also have Thai Beer. read more

Chopstix is a solid Thai restaurant in Statesville. In a town with a plethora of Mexican restaurants, this one is a breath of fresh air! They have the best spring rolls in the area! I visited at lunch today and there were plenty of people there eating, but I still found a seat without a wait. Yes! They offer lunch specials that come with your choice of protein, steamed rice and a cup of rice soup. They used to come with a spring roll as well, but they've discontinued that due to the rising meat prices. I ordered a chicken dish with garlic sauce and broccoli and it was solid. I'm a little picky when it comes to chicken, preferring chicken breast meat and this dish tasted like they used chicken thighs. The soup was a nice appetizer but the spring rolls were the best! One order comes with 3 rolls, so I had 2 to take home. Oh, and they also make a mean Thai tea! That's almost like a dessert in a glass. So creamy and strong! We won't be returning because of the woman server sneaking in extra charges at checkout, and lunch portions and dinner portions are the same except you're paying almost double for dinner. Check your receipt!! Specifically if the lady rings up your order. Before you pay at the front make sure you scroll up and down to make sure there's no hidden charges. I've been coming here for years at least once a month. We normally order online through their website, but recently the total is always more when I pay in person than the total is shows online. But I noticed when the man rings up my order it's always the price it shows online. We dined in a couple weeks ago, my husband's order was wrong and he got chicken instead of beef in his pho, my mother's drink and my drink were wrong. We let it go because she seemed very busy and we are regulars. When we checked out our total for 3 people was a little over 60 dollars. I scrolled up and down on the screen and I noticed she charged us for 3 extra drinks. I showed her and she said it was correct. I explained to her there's 3 people, not 6. (She should know, she served us). She looked annoyed and said she would fix it and then said I could pay now. I checked the screen and the total was the same. I scrolled again and the only difference was she moved the extra 3 drinks to the far bottom of the screen. Again, I informed her it was wrong and she seemed irritated. She finally fixed it. Looking back through my old bank statements from choptix I saw my total wasn't always the same. (Which is odd because we always order the same things). My guess is when the gentleman rings you up he is doing it correctly and when the woman rings you up she is sneaking in extra charges. Every restaurant has an off day but today was a disaster in more than one way. We entered and it took awhile for the hostess to seat us. No big deal because they were busy and delays under the circumstance can be expected. We were a party of four and they seated us at a table for six in the middle of the main dining area. Presented us with menus and took our beverage orders and that was the last thing that went right. The owner of the restaurant was the one who actually took our order. When they came out, two of the four orders were wrong. I had the Pad Met Ma Muang with beef. That is beef with Cashew Nuts, Sliced Bamboo shoots, Baby Corn, Mushrooms and both White and Green Onions. I had the same dish two weeks ago and it was very flavorful and today, very bland with no distinctive taste. Another associate ordered the same thing except with pork and got chicken and had to be returned to the kitchen. At least he did finally get what he ordered. The worst problem was with the owner of the Company. He ordered Thai Fried Rice with Shrimp and it came out with Chicken. Sent it back to the kitchen and guess and the replacement was the same dish with one shrimp added and most of the chicken fished out. That's not the same dish. In cooking the rice with the shrimp, you get the flavor of the shrimp through out. Adding it after the fact does not give the same result. Paul, the gentleman who's order was messed up, politely asked the owner of the restaurant who is also the one who took the order, what happened. The owner of the restaurant insisted that Paul had ordered the L-10 from the lunch menu and that was correct. Not the case, Paul served three tours in SE Asia, loves Asian foods and is very knowledgeable in Asian cuisine and ordered the dish by the proper name in the proper language. He never once ordered by number like I did because he knew what he wanted. When the dish finally came out with the one shrimp and residual chicken, I think Paul had about two bites and that was it. Other problem was a air handling unit above out table. With the high humidity, large amount of condensate so we had constant water dripping onto our table. Working for a food packaging company, not the most sanitary condition possible. In the end, the low rating does not come from the quality of the food or the service which granted in a large part of it, but the attitude that our party was obviously wrong and the fact that we got the wrong food, was our fault. What a hidden Gem in Statesville. I was pleasantly surprised by my visit. Looks can be deceiving. I drove passed it with a colleague a year ago and we did not decide to go inside because of the "look" and typically I do not look at yelp before entering a restaurant, to get an unbiased opinion. (I do look at yelp when sitting down looking what to order on the menu, at that point leaving is too late LOL!) Anyways, I drove by again by myself and decided to stop and give it an open mind. Inside, I was chocked, it was packed! I did get seated right away. My drink order was taken as soon as I sat down and then was able to look at their lunch menu. Typical Thai dishes you'd expect. They have a lunch combo, which entree comes with a soup, spring roll AND drink. I had the pangnang curry combo and wow it came out so quick. before I could even check-in with the Yelp app, I had my soup and spring roll. Soup was a rice soup in a chicken broth. Spring roll was cabbage and carrot filled with a sweet vinegary dip. I was not the tangy sweet chilli sauce that I would have expected, but it paired very well with the roll. My curry dish came almost as soon as I had finished my appetizer. Curry with rice size ratio paired well. I hate it when I have much curry left and have to eat it like a soup....bc why waste good food, or when you only have rice left and it be thrown away. So yes, rice to curry ratio is important to me. It had lots of veggies and diced chicken I didn't feel like the veggies were a "filler" as experienced in other restaurants before. Staff was attentive, and like a well-oiled machine. As soon as I finished a plate, it was taken away. Refills of your drink were done by any server, not just the one that took your order...or just water. I had a soda. Staff was friendly, I was waiting for the check to arrive, but noticed a number on my table, so I kindly asked if I just go up front to pay. They respectfully responded and so I got up to pay. While paying I noticed some grocery store shelving and asian goods nice and neatly stacked. So I asked the person at the register if that was a grocery store or the stock room, she said that they had a grocery store there. So I went to check it out.....and bough a sack of Jasmin Rice, because I was out. Funny was that the same woman rushed over to check me out at the store. The store also has it separate entrance / exit, so shoppers won't necessarily go crowd the restaurant patrons. I just happened to walk through their connecting doors. I will definitely be back here.
