I went with my family, party of 6 for our annual Christmas dinner. Every year, we picked a different restaurant to go to. Thai Lotus was the place we chose for this year. The place seemed cozy and quiet and the waitress was nice. However, when we received our food, I was very disappointed. The food that we ordered was okay but the portions were so little. We ordered like 8-10 different plates of food. How do you expect to feed 6 people when it's only enough for 4. Come on...It's almost like you have to order double and it's not cheap. As for the food, we didn't like much of the taste. When you are Asian, you know what good food is. For instance, I had the Tom Yum Soup. It didn't taste quite like Tom Yum Soup and the same goes for the Pork Curry. The whole time that we were eating there, my wife and I still think that Jin's Buffet by Walmart, should've been a better choice. Oh well, I guessed you have to learn from your mistake. After dinner, it's funny, the waitress asked if we would like some boxes for our left over food. I'm like, no we're good. What left over food...? My advice for customers: If you have never had Asian Food, you might think that this place is a good place to eat. However, if you did have Asian Food elsewhere you would know the differences when it comes to taste. Maybe you don't care, that's your business. I respect that. I'm just letting you know. My advice for the owner: Please be aware of the people you served. You can't serve 6-10 people like you would 2-4. You can't be greedy when it comes to food. People like it when you give them a lot of food. Your customers will be coming back even if the food isn't that great. This unassuming little restaurant has big flavors and a surprisingly beautiful interior! I didn't expect much from the modest strip mall entrance but was so pleasantly surprised. We arrived at around 1:30 and the place was packed. After a tiny wait, we were seated. The service was so kind and swift, and they did it all with only 2 servers inside. I didn't feel rushed or wanting for anything. Amazing! The dishes we tried were all simply incredible. This might be my new favorite Thai restaurant! We wanted dumplings, but they were out by the time we arrived. Instead, we tried spring rolls and shrimp blankets. So good! Both are completely homemade, not from a box. Our entrees were delicious, too. I got a curry and my daughter had Thai chicken with veggies. I loved hers, the chicken was lightly fried and the sauce was somewhat spicy. Quite charming atmosphere and attentive service. They let me customize my masamun curry with veggies of choice. The dish was very flavorful with a generous amount of shrimp. The real star was the crispy tangy papaya salad. If you haven't tried this you are really missing out. I love great Thai food. This fits the bill. I had a Red Curry Tofu. I enjoyed the Tofu Soup that came with the Lunch Special. There is something for everyone on the menu. There is something for omnivores, pescetarian, and vegetarians. Something that people might not consider ordering is Thai Tea. This is a black tea, with spices, served over ice with condensed milk. This is not traditional southern "sweet tea" or traditional southern "unsweet tea. " Do yourself a favor and head out for the lunch special and order some Thai Iced Tea. read more

My husband and I were out looking for something different when we stumbled upon the Thai Lotus restaurant. We were out without our son and wanted to eat something we love that he doesn't like. We decided to give it a chance and I'm so glad we did. The food was AMAZING and Molly, the owner, is one of the kindest, sweetest people I have met in a long time. We have been back a few more times and have even gotten takeout as well. We live in Lincolnton so, we don't have any Thai restaurants at all and I gladly drive the 20-25 minutes to Thai Lotus because the food is always delicious! I also have a hard time choosing what to get sometimes and Molly gives the best recommendations! My fave dishes are the Vegetable Pad Woonsen and the Crispy Chicken Rama! So good! I think this is the best Thai food in Hickory. I love Golden Triangle, Larb Gai, Beef Salad, Tom Yum soup, chicken Pho noodle, Thai lotus fried rice, Lad Na. The owner lady is very nice and professional. But other than her the service is below average most days. Every once in a while I get a good/decent server but most nights I go I am not surprised at below average service. Wonderful Thai food in an unassuming location. To the left of the Food Lion on hwy 127, behind McDonalds. Ethnic food can be difficult for me because i have a serious food allergy and the language barrier can sometimes keep me from trying what's probably an excellent restaurant. This wasn't an issue here and my choices were extensive. But this review isn't about my allergies, it's about the food. Papaya salad is the best I've had since Tia sold her place. At least as good. The Massaman curry is the best I've had this far South. Perfect mixture of spice and the richness of coconut milk. Apparently they grow their own herbs and after the spring roll I believe it. I swear it tasted like the contents had just been picked. Tofu fried to perfection. etc. Everything was excellent, and very clean. We will be returning often. read more

The second time we carried out and it was still hot and fresh when we got home and sat down to eat. No complaints at all so far. The service staff are such warm folks. They're always ready with recommendations for people not accustomed to Thai food. The restaurant is clean and tasteful. The decor is your usual ornate SE Asian. Well after living in Thailand we were hoping for some authentic Thai food. Very disappointed to say the least. Very little traditional Thai veggies or herbs and although the food was made Thai hot at our request, we were surprised there were no Thai chillies in the preparation. Many of these ingredients are available at the Asian market, but this place fails to follow tradition. Americanized versions do not cut it for expats or patrons who have traveled to this beautiful exotic country.
