After a day of cruising around Cherokee National Forest, my husband and I were looking for a food spot we would both like. I don't eat meat so we had to go beyond the typical southern BBQ spots. We found Monsoons on our driving route back to Johnson City. This was a tiny restaurant with a modest no-frills interior. Upon entering, we were greeted and told to sit wherever we'd like. My husband and I decided to sit at the counter top. It was fascinating to watch everything made from scratch! We opted for egg-rolls and Thai tea to start. I decided on the hot pot/vegetable soup also known as "pho." I watched the cook chop up the vegetables and boil everything right there. Fresh...yum! We chatted up the cook and the waitress and they were both so sweet! Monsoons was like eating at your Mom's kitchen, complete with placemats and fun family conversation. My husband and I had a great meal and we would return again.

    Wontons and egg rolls.

Amazing Thai food in the heart of a small town. The building is full of family memories. They are cash only and we decided to have a feast. Everything was amazing and fresh and the price was perfect. Everything came out fast and fresh. Def make the stop.

We ate outside on an unusually warm day..

Wow! The food here is beyond amazing! I ordered the Red Curry and my wife ordered the Tropical Stir Fry. Both meals were incredible and substantial. My only complaint would be that I feel the meals were a little pricey. Heck, I see these prices in Fort Lauderdale at fairly nice restaurants. But...I've gotta admit, I quickly forgot the sting once I took my first bite!

It ain't no fancy all you can eat mega buffet. Keep It Simple. Across the Highway from them 2 horses.

"Tomorrow hopes we have learned something from yesterday." - John Wayne Real Thai Food way out in the sticks of TN is so hard to believe. I had to check it out. The legitimacy of Thai Food in our hometown of Asheville,, NC is something all boast about, but few achieve. Monsoon was worth the journey. When yoU feel lost, there it is. It looks like restaurants in the 3rd world. But actually, tin and and board construction are how they roll up there. Entering the quaint restaurant, one is greeted with a "Protected by 2nd Amendment" sticker on the door. The owner and staff are all very kind. The array of cutlery on the wall makes one feel quite at home. Large dining area to the left. A beautiful display of Thai Family Memorabilia intermingles with a proud MAGA presence, backed by John Wayne. One cannot fictional a life something of this sort. Amazing! Ok the food. What I had was better than any "legit Thai" in Asheville. I had a simple bowl of coconut soup, egg rolls, and fried potstickers. They were e awesome but I had my dog and left in a hurry. I drove 20 minutes to the Appalachian Trail by Watauga Lake to run the dog. My soup was still steamIng aNd all fried items were crispy and delicious. All items obviously were curated with a living hand of a knowledgeable and dedicated Thai Chef. We arrived back at the car a couple hours later. The fried I items were still crispy! Unheard of by this guy. The soup had also cooked into a delicious stew if mushrooms, radish, and other Thai veggies. Monsoons is worth the drIve from Asheville for non-pretentious , legitimate Thai delicacies. When I go back I will not forget CASH. Cash only. Closed Sunday and Wednesday. Yelp says 7 days, but that is her Asian Market in Kingsport. Have fun and keep epicurean on!

On their website/Facebook page the menu can be found under “photos”, not sure if the prices are updated though.

    Is this open on Saturday?

They close the grill at 7:30 on Saturdays. :)

The waitstaff was very kind- that's the only highlight. The shrimp were rubber- and they put everything on skewars which is weird. It's like the shrimp fully evaded any salt and pepper. Got the pad see ew which was super mushy. Their mango salmon and shrimp was insanely overcooked. But the sauce it was in was flavorless and oily. My husband eats everything and would not finish it because it was so bad. Their purple rice was the mushiest thing ever. I have never seen an Asian restaurant that can't make rice. Like that's the bare minimum -Asian folks are rolling in their graves over how bad that is. They have zero kid options- so one kid got the crispy chicken fried rice which was also so bland and mushy but had pockets of strong ginger and soy taste but not well distributed- the chef has zero knife skills- half of the scallions were huge and half were cut right. The chicken was also cut weird. Like half in super thin strips and half in giant chunks. Son's chicken pho was 100% star anise. It was the only flavor in there. The chicken was all fatty and flubby. The decor was even more strange. They were simultaneously decorated for valentines, Christmas, Thanksgiving and had weird Asian "pillows" Wrapped in plastic. I literally would eat anywhere else before ever coming back here The waitress was nice enough to take the pad see ew and rubber shrimp off our bill- but I'd pay to never ever eat that food again as long as I live. Please do not be fooled by the reviews which feel like they are written by bots. This was SO bad. Abort mission- eat anywhere else.

First meal in Boone... and unfortunately, not my favorite…read more I ordered the Green Curry with pork, Crab Rangoon, and a Thai Iced Coffee for about $23. As someone who loves Thai food and has eaten a lot of it over the years, I may have walked in with high expectations. The star of the meal was definitely the Crab Rangoon. Crispy, creamy, and served with a sweet chili sauce that hit all the right notes. The Green Curry was a different story. The curry sauce itself was flavorful enough, and I actually ate all of it. But the pork had a texture more like pulled pork than the sliced pork I'm used to seeing in Thai curry. It felt out of place and wasn't something I'd order again. I ended up leaving most of the meat and vegetables behind. The Thai Iced Coffee was also a miss for me. I know Thai coffee tends to be sweet, but this was sweetness overload. A few sips in and I was done. That said, this is a college town, prices were reasonable, service was quick, and the Crab Rangoon alone saved the meal from being a complete disappointment. Life is too short to eat mediocre food, so I'll keep searching for my favorite meal in Boone. This one just wasn't it for me.

We are quite versed in Thai cuisine,…read morehave only become interested in Vietnamese cuisine in the past few years, but are completely ignorant of Lao food. The portion sizes here are huge! Here was our order: -Shrimp Salad (Summer) Rolls: 10/10...the rolls were twice the size of rolls you get at other Thai places for the same price. But with the peanut sauce, they were transcendental. That peanut sauce could be bottled and sold en masse. So so so good. -Papaya Salad: 7.5/10, very refreshing, but with a secret hit of spice on the back of the palate that wakes you up. Crisp, fresh, healthy. -Larb chicken: this was a first for me....to my unrefined palate, it tasted almost like ground chicken cooked with pho spices/herbs. I ended up drizzling some of the leftover peanut sauce on the chicken which was amazing. Again, lots of protein and vegetables, perfect for health-conscious folks. 9/10 -Pad Thai: this is my wife's safe order that she always uses as a litmus test for restaurants, and it did NOT disappoint! She said this was her favorite pad Thai EVER, and with drizzles of the extra peanut sauce and lime juice, this dish was truly elevated. 10/10. -Mango Sticky Rice: 100000000/10, my lord I don't know how I lived my life without this. It's reminiscent of peach cobbler in my opinion, but with mango. The sweetened rice isn't overly sweet, which allows the sharpness/sweetness of the mango to shine. The mango itself was perfectly ripe, whereas most mangos tend to be sickly sweet and mushy from overripening. All in all, this is our new favorite for Thai cuisine in Tri-Cities, and my introduction to Lao food was beautiful and filling. We will absolutely be back in the future, as I'd love to see how Lao pho differs from Vietnamese pho. Plus the mango sticky rice is etched into my mind permanently.
