Service was amazing and food was even better. Some of the best Thai food I've ever had.

My wife and I ordered from Pho Lao Kitchen Der for takeout. We are quite versed in Thai cuisine, have only become interested in Vietnamese cuisine in the past few years, but are completely ignorant of Lao food. The portion sizes here are huge! Here was our order: -Shrimp Salad (Summer) Rolls: 10/10...the rolls were twice the size of rolls you get at other Thai places for the same price. But with the peanut sauce, they were transcendental. That peanut sauce could be bottled and sold en masse. So so so good. -Papaya Salad: 7.5/10, very refreshing, but with a secret hit of spice on the back of the palate that wakes you up. Crisp, fresh, healthy. -Larb chicken: this was a first for me....to my unrefined palate, it tasted almost like ground chicken cooked with pho spices/herbs. I ended up drizzling some of the leftover peanut sauce on the chicken which was amazing. Again, lots of protein and vegetables, perfect for health-conscious folks. 9/10 -Pad Thai: this is my wife's safe order that she always uses as a litmus test for restaurants, and it did NOT disappoint! She said this was her favorite pad Thai EVER, and with drizzles of the extra peanut sauce and lime juice, this dish was truly elevated. 10/10. -Mango Sticky Rice: 100000000/10, my lord I don't know how I lived my life without this. It's reminiscent of peach cobbler in my opinion, but with mango. The sweetened rice isn't overly sweet, which allows the sharpness/sweetness of the mango to shine. The mango itself was perfectly ripe, whereas most mangos tend to be sickly sweet and mushy from overripening. All in all, this is our new favorite for Thai cuisine in Tri-Cities, and my introduction to Lao food was beautiful and filling. We will absolutely be back in the future, as I'd love to see how Lao pho differs from Vietnamese pho. Plus the mango sticky rice is etched into my mind permanently. read more

My boyfriend and I got takeout and absolutely loved it! The yellow curry was absolutely phenomenal, the perfect comfort meal for a rainy day. Also the young man on the phone was very pleasant over the phone, and even more so when I arrived to pick up my order. We will definitely be back, I highly recommend you try it too. I expected better food from the high ratings. The dish I ate had tofu that had gone bad (tasted like sour milk) and the vegetables were flavorless and large. The spring rolls were like the ones you buy at the store. The dining room area is pretty small, I think I counted 6 tables, with two or three of them being 2 tops. Honestly, the only redeeming factor was the service. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food also came out pretty quick (5 mins). read more

Fantastic and Fresh!! A favorite in Johnson City, the food is delicious, fresh, and portions are definitely shareable. The appetizer of tempura shrimp is misleading, it is an amazing meal for us with both tempura shrimp and a mixture of tempura vegetables. The shrimp are very large and the batter is delicious!! Best tempura in the area. The fried rice dishes are delicious too. Again large portions! The orange chicken is also a favorite, I like extra sauce, it is so good!! The mixed vegetables stir fry (with beef) is delicious!! I've forced myself to try different dishes because I always want the tempura and orange chicken and every dish has been amazing. I'll continue trying until I've had them all!!! Consistently great food. The fried rice is amazing and unique. Pad Thai is the best in the area. Staff is always very friendly.

Good option for Thai food. Pho is better at roots but it's decent here. The rest of their menu is very delicious. I'm not a fan of some of the flavors in the Lao cuisine but that's just me. Try it out and decide for yourself. The one lady who works the front is obviously overworked but she is super friendly small seating arrangement not my favorite so I rarely eat in there. read more

I don't usually give 5 stars but really good Asian food in the Tri Cities is Hard to find. Well this little restaurant is the exception. The food is very delicious and not your ordinary Asian dishes. I had the Pad See Ew and my wife had the Orange chicken with sticky rice. We also got the best Won Ton soup I ever had to go....We will definitely be going back or getting food to go. read more

We got the crab rangoons, pot stickers, orange chicken, and house pho. The appetizers tasted house-made and were delicious. Their orange chicken was honestly the best I have ever had. It was tempura battered and absolutely divine. I will crave it from now on. Their pho was also good. Their meatballs were very good and the broth was flavorful. horrible experience. server didn't greet me. gave me the wrong pho. Lie to me about my food twice then added the "steak" I originally ordered to my chicken pho that I didn't even order. Didn't eat my food, no apology. Still paid but just fyi don't waste your time here. Go to roots if you want genuine good Vietnamese. very very disappointed here! And it's my only day off at that. Asked three people about the broth my food was in wanting beef broth, the first guy lied then other two lady's say it's chicken and chicken and beef broth. So what's the real answer?? totally not what I ordered and she didn't even care. Sad. and this is exactly why businesses go downhill, not because of mistakes or accident but lack of care!
