Today was my first time coming to Pho Lao Kitchen Der and I was impressed. I ordered the pad kee mao topped with the lemongrass chicken. Wow, what a great combo! I ordered the coconut shrimp to start and included the mango sticky rice. Please don't forget to order the sticky rice. Really. I could have had a #4 spice level because #3 was not really noticeable. Maybe the kitchen left something out..? Anyway, I'm glad I made the trip to Boone's Creek today. Excellent meal! I'll be returning soon for another dish. read more

Service was amazing and food was even better. Some of the best Thai food I've ever had.

My wife and I ordered from Pho Lao Kitchen Der for takeout. We are quite versed in Thai cuisine, have only become interested in Vietnamese cuisine in the past few years, but are completely ignorant of Lao food. The portion sizes here are huge! Here was our order: -Shrimp Salad (Summer) Rolls: 10/10...the rolls were twice the size of rolls you get at other Thai places for the same price. But with the peanut sauce, they were transcendental. That peanut sauce could be bottled and sold en masse. So so so good. -Papaya Salad: 7.5/10, very refreshing, but with a secret hit of spice on the back of the palate that wakes you up. Crisp, fresh, healthy. -Larb chicken: this was a first for me....to my unrefined palate, it tasted almost like ground chicken cooked with pho spices/herbs. I ended up drizzling some of the leftover peanut sauce on the chicken which was amazing. Again, lots of protein and vegetables, perfect for health-conscious folks. 9/10 -Pad Thai: this is my wife's safe order that she always uses as a litmus test for restaurants, and it did NOT disappoint! She said this was her favorite pad Thai EVER, and with drizzles of the extra peanut sauce and lime juice, this dish was truly elevated. 10/10. -Mango Sticky Rice: 100000000/10, my lord I don't know how I lived my life without this. It's reminiscent of peach cobbler in my opinion, but with mango. The sweetened rice isn't overly sweet, which allows the sharpness/sweetness of the mango to shine. The mango itself was perfectly ripe, whereas most mangos tend to be sickly sweet and mushy from overripening. All in all, this is our new favorite for Thai cuisine in Tri-Cities, and my introduction to Lao food was beautiful and filling. We will absolutely be back in the future, as I'd love to see how Lao pho differs from Vietnamese pho. Plus the mango sticky rice is etched into my mind permanently. read more

Excellent Huge portions that are shareable. Fresh. Limited seating but best by far in JC. Shrimp fried rice is awesome. They don't skimp on the shrimp Don't overlook this little place. Easy to miss the entrance too. One way in and out read more

My boyfriend and I got takeout and absolutely loved it! The yellow curry was absolutely phenomenal, the perfect comfort meal for a rainy day. Also the young man on the phone was very pleasant over the phone, and even more so when I arrived to pick up my order. We will definitely be back, I highly recommend you try it too. Give this place your business :) also if you scroll down and see someone by the name of "Steel"s review, I believe they may just have bad taste and also may not understand that a giant restaurant is not something to poorly rate a restaurant over. read more

Delicious food! Got the House Pho two nights in a row because I loved it so much. Will be back

I expected better food from the high ratings. The dish I ate had tofu that had gone bad (tasted like sour milk) and the vegetables were flavorless and large. The spring rolls were like the ones you buy at the store. The dining room area is pretty small, I think I counted 6 tables, with two or three of them being 2 tops. Honestly, the only redeeming factor was the service. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food also came out pretty quick (5 mins). read more

I went here on a Saturday, only 2 people were inside eating and it's very small. Not a lot of sitting space maybe 6 tables or less max. Food was good, the guy that waited on me was equally amazing just amazing customer service. Nice little place to relax ...I will be back read more

Great Laotian / Southeast Asian food. The Tom Yum and Tom Kai soups are the best in the TriCities and are meals by themselves ( the soups are Very large). The entrees are also very well-prepared. The staff is also very friendly. Highly recommend. read more

We got the crab rangoons, pot stickers, orange chicken, and house pho. The appetizers tasted house-made and were delicious. Their orange chicken was honestly the best I have ever had. It was tempura battered and absolutely divine. I will crave it from now on. Their pho was also good. Their meatballs were very good and the broth was flavorful. As far as ambiance, the place is very small. They had a steady stream of to-go orders while we dined in. The service was very friendly. Will definitely eat there again! read more

Great food. The bar b que beef and pork is delicious and so tender. Love their dumplings.

Love, love, love the sticky mango rice!!! The shrimp dishes have HUGE shrimp and cooked to perfection. Dishes come out of kitchen as soon as prepared and are very hot naturally...no warming lamp I can't get enough of this place. Oh, and gluten free is always an option‍ read more

The best Thai cuisine we have had in the area. Absolutely delicious. The most amazing peanut sauce on earth. Curry is fantastic. The soups are otherworldly. The service is excellent. I cannot say enough good things!! Go hungry and often. We do! read more

Fantastic and Fresh!! A favorite in Johnson City, the food is delicious, fresh, and portions are definitely shareable. The appetizer of tempura shrimp is misleading, it is an amazing meal for us with both tempura shrimp and a mixture of tempura vegetables. The shrimp are very large and the batter is delicious!! Best tempura in the area. The fried rice dishes are delicious too. Again large portions! The orange chicken is also a favorite, I like extra sauce, it is so good!! The mixed vegetables stir fry (with beef) is delicious!! I've forced myself to try different dishes because I always want the tempura and orange chicken and every dish has been amazing. I'll continue trying until I've had them all!!! I visit JC often and sometimes arrive just after closing and they have always been gracious enough to wait a few minutes after closing so I don't miss dinner! Thank you Pho Lao!!! read more

Food was not authentic but service was excellent. Small place with few tables. Few people were getting to go foods

I don't usually give 5 stars but really good Asian food in the Tri Cities is Hard to find. Well this little restaurant is the exception. The food is very delicious and not your ordinary Asian dishes. I had the Pad See Ew and my wife had the Orange chicken with sticky rice. We also got the best Won Ton soup I ever had to go....We will definitely be going back or getting food to go. read more

Consistently great food. The fried rice is amazing and unique. Pad Thai is the best in the area. Staff is always very friendly.

Good option for Thai food. Pho is better at roots but it's decent here. The rest of their menu is very delicious. I'm not a fan of some of the flavors in the Lao cuisine but that's just me. Try it out and decide for yourself. The one lady who works the front is obviously overworked but she is super friendly small seating arrangement not my favorite so I rarely eat in there. read more

Amazing and consistently delicious. Everything we've tried has been great. Quick service and great for take out.

Excellent Thai and Lao food. We've been here twice so far and really loved it. Between this and Zaap Lai the area now has two great restaurants added with authentic Thai and Lao cuisine. It's also very clean and well maintained inside with fast and friendly service. We'll definitely be back again! read more

Hidden gem, awesome! This place is one of the places that should be busy but is sadly not. Good service, great food, and if it would bigger it would be nice but it's sadly not busy enough. Would come again! read more

The server is a young lady who is fantastic. All the tables were taken when we were there plus people coming in to pick up orders. She remembers who ordered what and how they like it.
