I ordered from the walk up window: the service was good and food came out quickly. I've always loved a good cookout tray. I got a burger tray with two chicken wraps as my sides (one Cajun and one Spicy) and my husband got a burger tray with fries and onion rings. He said the fries were a bit soggy but enjoyed everything else. I thought my burger was flavorful and the chicken wraps always feel like another entree to me (which I love). I wanted to take my daughter out to try something new. We looked at restaurants near us and ended up deciding on Chipotle with Cook Out being a close second. Well Chipotle is a weird place with zombies for employees so we left and ended up at Cook Out. My daughter tried the Cajun chicken sandwich and ended up devouring it! She enjoyed it so much that she didn't realize it had mayo and tomato on it! Two things she just never wanted to try before! For dessert she got the caramel cheesecake shake and obviously loved it! Cookout is one of my favorite fast food restaurants in the Carolinas. Upon relocating to Raleigh a family member changed my life having me try one of their famous burger trays and white cheddar cheese bites. I did not know what Cheerwine was until trying Cookout. The burgers are always chargrilled fresh and satisfy any craving for family barbecue food. I've always enjoyed the western style burger tray with slaw, white cheddar cheese bites and the world's best hush puppies. Perfect every time! This location is my 2nd favorite next to the western Blvd location near NC State. I will admit the line moves a little slow but it's so worth it. I love me some Cook Out. Their milkshakes are my favorite in the whole world, especially the watermelon milkshake, available only in the summer time. Mix and match the flavors as you please (yes you can combine multiple flavors together at no charge!), and enjoy! The burgers are also quite good, and their pulled pork BBQ is solid. The only downside is there's no indoor seating, so it's either take it to go or find a place to sit outside and enjoy your milkshake. It may just bring all the boys to the yard. I've been coming to cook out for years. If you are looking for a fast, drive up burger or hotdog this is a great place if you want to 'stay local' instead of the typical McDonald's or Wendy's stuff. I'm a huge fan of 'cook out style'. This is a regular burger with chili and cole slaw on top. Their fries are great, look to have been cooked with the skins on, maybe hand cut but can't tell. I ended up with this rating after much consideration. It was at a 4.5, but I decided to round down, only because there have been fast food/burger places that I've been to that are better in taste. Despite this, there are some very unique factors to this place that I think warrants the high rating, and I think if I weighted the price more heavily, this place deserves 5 stars. The first factor is the HUGE menu and the variety of items you can choose from. There is pretty much everything you could possibly want from fast food: burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, chicken strips, milkshakes, ice cream floats, etc. But if you are indecisive like me, the easy way out is their cookout tray, which gives you 1 main entree (choose from a wide array of burgers and other items), two sides, and a drink (+$1 gets you a milkshake) for just $5! Also just the milkshake menu alone is quite hefty, and you can also choose to mix and match different flavors into your milkshake. The second is actually the milkshake itself. They are scrumptious and very deserving of their hype here. (PRO TIP: Mocha + Oreo go very well together. A friend told me Reese's goes well with this mix as well). It is a very good size for just under $3, but it is simply a steal for $1 more with your tray. The third factor is the quantity of food. The burger is pretty much what I expected (the Cookout Style is my favorite thus far. the A1 style is also very good). The sides are what really make this tray combo special. One of the sides is actually a corn dog! The others are a chicken wrap, onion rings, cole slaw, etc. The chicken wrap is really delicious, and very filling just on its own. You will find yourself absolutely stuffed with this tray combo, and for less than 5 bucks! But wait, we're still not done. You get your choice of drink with your tray as well. The iced tea is delicious and they give you a LOT (with free refills if you are at this dine-in location). But to me, the $1 more shake deal is too good to pass. A couple final notes: I have heard that the line here can get rather long, but I have yet to experience that. Also, they have seasonal milkshakes that you may love or not care too much for. The watermelon milkshake was okay, in my opinion, but some of my friends claimed it was delicious. Finally, another item worth mentioning on the menu is their cheer wine float. The food here is super cheap, even when you're comparing it to other fast food restaurants. What made this place 4 stars and not 3, are their milkshakes. Once I found out about these magical milkshakes, it definitely got added onto my list of guilty pleasures. I'm not a big fan of bananas, but when it's mixed with a vanilla milkshake and ribbons of fudge, I can't help but get weak in the knees!
