I just needed a quick bite to eat before I attended a funeral in the area. Service was subpar. It's located near NCCU and you may be a little leery to stop at this location. I ordered fries and some sort of chicken balls. The fries were hot and crispy. The chicken balls tasted like it came from a frozen dinner. There were a lot of them but it gave off fake meat. I only ate about 4 of them and decided to throw the rest away because it didn't seem like a good idea to continue to eat them. I was given one bbq sauce and told if I need more it would be 75 cent each for more. I only ate as far as the lil cup of bbq sauce lasted and trashed the rest. read more

Had a meh experience. They are testing out a computer system at the window that felt inpersonable. Just a robot voice taking your order. It also didn't repeat it back to you so you knew the order was correct. My sister and I sat at the window for literally 5-10 seconds after getting our food to check the bag, ensuring we had everything. The lady at the drive-thru window opened the window and said "could you move up please." There was no one behind us. We just wanted to make sure the food was right. It's walking distance from NCCU's campus, which is great for students. I'd go back if I had to. read more

They got my order wrong. When I came back to ask them to fix it the so called manager spoke to me like we were on the street corner and told me it was my fault. I repeated by order, all she did was as add 1 thing instead of fixing it. When I asked for it to be made correctly they wanted me to go on a busy street and reenter their parking lot so their time wouldn't be slowed down. I said no...I asked to speak to the GM who was there and Bernard refused to come to the window and they just issued me a refund. Location has been horrible since it opened. Even with plenty of staff, the wait times, quality of food, and customer service is horrible. If you wait at the window, expect to be there for a minimum of 10-15 mins before even being acknowledged, even when there are 10 workers standing around and 3 of them doing nothing but staring at you. Then when you actually get the food, expect it to be cold or lukewarm at best even with the additional 10-20 mins of food cook/prep time! Food isn't even that good for the wait. Literally one of the worst fast food restaurants in Durham. It's not that hard to give quality customer service. It's not that hard to greet customers and say "I'll be right with you!" when you notice them. It's not hard to communicate food wait times. I've been working in customer + food service for nearly 10 years and it's literally not that hard to be nice to others. Improvements needed. Granted the location is not the best, however the service makes it no better. My husband and I came here 2 times. The 1st time the drive thru "froze" . Of course we went to another restaurant to find something to eat. The 2nd time, we were the 2nd car in line. I saw this one just opened up in Durham and figured I would give it a try I wish that I had an exclamation mark the drive-thru line for 24 I actually got my food. Then to add insult to injury the person who handed me the food didn't even give me a straw or a napkins. I ordered the big Buford burger which is a double cheeseburger with lettuce tomato pickle onion ketchup mayo and mustard. It was awful! Seriously it was one of the worst tasting burgers I've had anywhere. Then I tried the fries which you supposedly have won awards for being best fries, I don't know he handed out these awards but they must not have tried any other fries from any other restaurant! I have only used this excuse for bad service once before so it's not something I take lightly at all: don't bother to eat here if you're of the Caucasian/White persuasion since you'll be ignored and only given your order (incorrectly, I might add) after every black patron has been served. Let's just say that after I placed my order on the mobile app and then walked up to the window to let them know and gave them my name, at least 10 cars and 3 walk-up orders of black customers who placed their orders after me got served before me When I finally got my order after a 35-minute wait, I simply pointed out that I ordered 2 drinks but got only one (as clearly indicated on the receipt) but was told they were out of root beer. The manager walking by said that they did have root beer after all but they still made me wait another 5 minutes just to get the drink, which turned out to be coke and was only 2/3 full. To top it off, when they finally handed me my drink after 5 minutes since I was clearly antsy, I was told that I had no reason to be impatient since they had been working an 8-hout shift! read more

I was so excited to have a Checkers location in Durham, but this location is currently just a big disappointment. You can tell they hired an incompetent manager. Hopefully after a few months of practice they'll improve, but right now it's not worth your time or money. So now that I've said that let me paint the picture. I went on Saturday 8/20. The line was about half a block long, but the problem was they were only getting through 1 car every 5-15 minutes. The walk up window looked a bit faster, but I didn't try it. So after waiting over an hour to get to the order menu I ordered 2 burgers and 2 fries. Then I waited another 20 minutes to get to the window. It was 5 more minutes before someone came to the window to take my payment and give out the food. No napkins of course. Now the food. The burgers were barely warm and the bacon was under cooked and chewy. More importantly Checker's famous fries were also barely warm mashed up pretty badly and rubbery/chewy. You can tell someone made the order as soon as it came in, but then it waited 20 minutes for me to get it so it wasn't good. You could tell that the fries were being over crowded into the fryer. It's the only way to get that particular type of bad. If you put too many fries in the basket and/or drop 2 baskets into the oil at the same time it cools the oil too much and it can't cook properly. You get oily chewy mushy fries instead of crispy outside fluffy inside fries like they should be. Honestly the Checker's branded frozen fries at the grocery store come out better in the oven than these did in a Checkers. read more

I waited in the drive thru for around 10 minutes and then at the window for another 10 - even though it was only me and one other person at the other drive thru. I got my food and I got funnel fries instead of 2 brookies and a sprite with ice instead of a hi-c no ice. I did ask them for the brookies but I didn't bother with the drink since I was so thirsty lol. The lady at the drive thru was nice and didn't seem to mind. The food was pretty good. I got the cheese champ burger combo with fries. My burger was PACKED with lettuce and onions. Other than the super slow service and abundance of lettuce and onions, it was pretty good for my first time. I wouldn't recommend this specific location if you're in a rush. I was driving down Fayetteville street and I passed by checkers (I should have kept driving). I was hungry so I decided to stop. Well, that was a mistake. I pull up to the Drive Thru speaker and I'm greeted by an automated voice (that's creepy). I ordered my food -two cheeseburgers, reg fries, and a drink which came to a grand total of 13 bucks. Okay, whatever! Then came the wait and the wait and the wait. Then to add insult to injury they gave me the wrong order which caused me an even longer wait. Finally, the food arrives and it is absolutely disgusting. The burgers were cold and the fries were chewy. This place should be renamed, "Chucky's" because this was a horrifying experience. I was waiting for this place to open dreaming about their bacon cheeseburger and banana milk shakes which I use to order when I was in college. Too bad I didn't get to taste anything. This is one of the mist poorly run establishments I've ever been to. I waited 20 minutes to get to the order menu but that did bother me. What was so bad was that the car in front me took forever to order and seemed to be talking and joking with the staff member taking the order. Mind you, there are a line of cars down the street waiting to get into the parking lot. After I ordered the car in front of me apparently knew another staff members who was leaning in their car to cary on yet another conversation. After another 5 minutes I just gave up! If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The service is absolutely awful here. We came on a Saturday afternoon. After about a 10 minute wait to order, when we were probably the second customer at the time, we were told chicken strips would be an 8 minute wait. We got to the window and could definitely tell we were the inconvenience to the workers who were blasting music as loud as they could inside. The food was lukewarm, and they forgot one of our drinks. When we reminded them again, we were met with enough attitude to understand that we were really ruining their day with our patronage. I'm mexican, and my husband is Caucasian. To be honest, this totally felt like a reverse racist situation for no good reason other than the color of his skin. We did not even bother to ask for any sauces. We were given no napkins. Overall, this was one of the worst experiences we've ever had at a fast food restaurant. Save your money, and go someplace else. A word to management and workers. Having worked in food service myself in California for years, it does not matter how much you hate your job or the customers. Customer service is horrible may be better if it wasn't so much playing around and joking in the back ground. The food was cold would think it was made fresh since there was a 25 minute wait in line with only a few cars ahead. Also everyone must not be aware on how to make the items on the menu...no reason wings should be given to me as fried chicken drizzed with barely any sauce on top, not even close to the picture. When checking your food to make sure it's correct to avoid having to wait in a long line the second time, they act impatient as if you are holding up the line, if that same thought process was used to move the line more efficiently then it may be a better experience.
