Okay, that's it. I've got to write a review and get this all off my chest. Let's start with the good. Cook Out is one of my top fast food loves. I see some people saying that the quality of food is low. It's fast food, friends. And Cook Out definitely provides one of the most real, satisfying menus in the fast food world. The burgers are thick. The quesadillas are crispy. The cheese is plentiful and gooey. It tastes like food that just came off the grill at a backyard cookout. Surprise! It's good stuff. I also see people saying the prices are high. Preposterous. The food is worth every penny, and the Cook Out tray is one of the best fast food deals ever. Seriously, if the cards are played right, that thing could feed an average American adult for an entire day. You go, Cook Out. You go. Now for the disappointment of disappointments. I first tried the peanut butter fudge shake at the Monticello Avenue location in Norfolk, and I was hooked. It was a drinkable Reese's Cup. Seriously life-changing. When I ordered it at this location, though, I drove away from the window and got a strawful of peanut butter (real peanut butter! Which is wonderful on the quality end, but a little discouraging if you ordered chocolate taste as well). No chocolate taste whatsoever. I've tried so many different things - asking for extra chocolate seemed to sort of work once, going back through and asking them to remake it sort of (sort of) worked another time, and the list goes on. Every single time I order here, I get a plain peanut butter shake and a mouthful (literally) of unblended peanut butter. I should have learned by now, but I keep giving them extra chances. Nothing so far has even come close to tasting like the shakes I've gotten at the Monticello location. The lesson? Cook Out as a whole is wonderful, but don't mess with my peanut butter fudge shakes. So as me and my husband are new in the area, we decided to check out this place. Its really clean, is spacious, is a good ambience. Now, food wise, we ordered cheeseburgers and a vanilla milkshake, the burgers were ok, nothing really special. But that milkshake, THAT MILKSHAKE!! I had to wait about 10-15 mins to eat (not drink) eat, the cup of ice cream i got! Ridiculous, that was not a milkshake at all. Very disappoint it. Sorry but we are not going back. read more

Was recently down in Chesapeake, VA visiting family and ran into my first Cook Out. A friend of mine had just mentioned Cook Out to me about a week prior to me going and couldn't believe that I had never heard of or eaten there. My first thought was that it was going to be another Five Guys or Z-Burger.. Far from... Food was great an prices were greater. I had a 4.99 double with fries and coleslaw as well as a sweet tea.. Delicious! Very rare that I am able to satisfy a craving that quick but Cook Out got it done. They apparently have other locations that are walk up windows and out door seating, but the one I went to had a full dining room and a great atmosphere. Wish there were more Cook Outs toward northern VA. I could see my self traveling ehh 30 or so miles just for the experience again but the closest one to me is well over an hour away.. Ahh such is life.. If you haven't been to Cook Out, give it a shot.. Heard the shakes were amazing too but did not have one while I was there. read more

Yup I love cookout ! This is one of my favorite places to eat. I order the cookout tray every time and add a milkshake of any choice for $1. With my cookout tray I order chicken strips , hush puppies & a bacon wrap . Yummmm . I've tried all kinds of milk shakes from Reese's , banana , snickers , mint chocolate chip etc. I like that they have one of the largest sweet tea cups you can order with your cookout tray . The service is always steady , I've never had to wait a long time for my order . The drive thru is also very helpful for when im just on lunch break . They make their food fresh which is always a blessing . I do recommend getting sauce with whatever you order because their food do seem to be a bit dry . Although I like my food dry others may not . If you haven't had a chance I do recommend this place to anyone especially with their cheap prices for a decent amount of food . read more

I usually don't offer any feedback on fast food because it's just that, fast food. I have however gone to this location several times. Sad to say they almost ALWAYS get something wrong with my order and the presentation leaves one to question after they wrap a burger, do they roll it in grease before handing it out the window? The food itself is decent but the quality of the presentation and the fact that much of the time you drive away leaving something of your order behind makes this place a 2 star. read more

My husband loves this place. I think its just OK food, but the cheap price always has us coming back. We always get the trays which you can combine just about anything. I just left this Cook Out which took FOREVER to get serves!! I drove up to the outside lane and there was a truck placing their order and 1 other car in front of me. So, I thought I would stay with the outside lane because they were equal as the inside lane when I first arrived. BAD mistake!! I watch the inside lane give serves for 5 cars and our still had not moved. I watch 2 cars that had pulled behind me back up and pull to the inside lane and get serves. After a lengthy time I had finally thought I would do the same. Mistake #2...I backed up and pulled up to place my order and no one came across the speaker. There was 4 car in front of me and I had just heard the last car that pulled up and was served. I waited for a bit and then said "Hello anyone there?? No response. I ask another 2 times and still no response. In the mean time the outside lane cleared all its customers and the cars in front of me were now Gone. Finally after they served the last car in front of me they came across the Speaker and took my order. April 20th 23:35 Cashier Yuneek. My impression as they were all laughing at the window when I pulled up was this was done intentionally!! So this is how late night Cook Out Team gets their Kicks!! This is the absolute worst!!!!!!...... Burger I have ever had since my conception....I can honestly say that....and if I could give them negative stars I would. I usually have a little fun with my reviews but this shid is not fun....to serve a paid for product with this lack of care angers me. Sent my passive husband to get my order simple....h3ll no.... I ordered the huge burger no mayo no raw onion he comes back like a hunter with fresh meat or something #1 the burger looked very small opposing the huge concept #2 the burger looks like stacked crap with huge raw onion rings on it #3 had no charcoal taste non #4 I picked one of the burgers up it fell to pieces #5 I called the corporate offices to check see if this was real polite discussion....this is how it's supposed look .....SO ...I will never eat at another Cook Out and if I drive by one it take everything good deeply rooted in me not to pull over to verbally and physically attack the entire chain of command .......somebody's got to hurt.....not my food........................ not my food. read more

Decent food for what it is but the customer service is abysmal. Had an issue with an employee and when speaking to the manager on duty, he refused to accept or admit his employee had any wrong doing just offered to make another. My disposition had nothing to do with the meal but solely had to do with the interaction with his employee. Sadly, after dealing with him, I understood why she had no care for how she interacts with customers. Went across the street to a different chain and had an entirely different experience. The staff at this location is completely ignorant & rude. The food was alright, but when asking simple questions about the menu I got attitude from one specific female employee. If you don't want to do your job & answer simple questions maybe a customer service job isn't for you. Also when pulling up to the window she just handed me my food, did not look at me or say one word, & proceeded to close the window. Great food.... Great prices ...... Great choices....... Not so great that they have so much waste in styrofoam packaging products. I can see carry out. But even they even give you styrofoam containers for dine in. Can't beat a styrofoam cup. But there are better choices for serving food in. Not to mention styrofoam containers are expensive. The service is quick even when the lines are long, the food tastes great, and the employees are friendly. I mostly get the Burger, fries, and corn dogs. I tried the chicken and it wasn't great, but it was alright. The BBQ pork wasn't vinegar-y enough for me but still good. Overall, I'm Happy with the cook out! read more

I would like to begin by saying that I am actually a fan of Cook Out but NOT this location! What is worse is that this is the location near my home, so , when I decide I want Cook Out I will have to drive clear across town to the location near Janaf as this is the only location I know of that has always done their customers right! So what was my experience well to begin this was my first time at this location ever as I forget about it being close by and only stop when I am in Norfolk .. so first thing was that the Drive Thru was really slow and the person taking the order extremely ghetto and I had to repeat myself several times, I was in the outside lane ordering so when it was time to pull up and pay it took a few to figure where that would be, I get to the window 2 females as ghetto as can be talking about their person stuff loudly -- I pay, get my food and leave. When I got to eating, I notice when I said "everything except tomatoes" several times, she only hears "everything" good thing I am not allergic, so I not only have to peel off stuff I asked them not to put on but it doesn't even look like a burger -- nothing was on the bun but it did have SEVERAL very LARGE onions, almost like eating an onion sandwich the sauces were everywhere on the bun - in it, on top of it, even under it .. so needless to say WORST experience EVER ... but that isn't even the highlight! The next day, I was reviewing my bank account and found 2 charges from that store back to back .. now granted it was not a huge charge BUT it was a charge for something that shouldn't be there! I went online and went to the contact me section and sent a message about it .. of course a week later I still have not received any messages and still trying to get a supervisor on the phone! My advise ... NEVER go to the Chesapeake store if you want a good experience drive to Norfolk -- better food -- better service and no additional MYSTERY charges! read more
