Place inside looks how a bbq joint should - lots of wood, lots of TVs, and lots of tables. If you're heading out of town it's only like 8 minutes from the airport, perfect place to stop.

I ordered the lean brisket, jalapeño & cheese sausage, mac & cheese, spicy beans, and cornbread--and every single item delivered. The brisket was tender and flavorful, the sausage had just the right kick, and the sides were classic comfort food done right. The lean brisket spicy beans especially stood out. This Memphis native who also lived in Kansas City for years has a high bar for 'que. Papa Turney's is one of those IYKYK kind of spots. This is the place if you want fall off the bone ribs. That is surprisingly hard to find consistently in most of the barbecue places in Nashville. The pork here has great flavor good, but sometimes is a little dry. I love the beans and the potato salad here. The coleslaw isn't creamy, so it's not for me. I do wish they had bigger cups. They are hilariously small for a drink to go with flavor-filled BBQ. This place is not fancy. That's what is great about it. You get a free view of the marina, and after you eat be sure to visit J. Percy Priest Dam. They champion great music here, and I've enjoyed the solo players on the patio during warm days. I look forward to coming at night when the joint is jumping. They have a full bar with a nice selection of bourbon and whiskey and a pretty impressive lineup of local tap beers. When you go to other cities, you should definitely research what the local specialties are in order to give it a fair chance. Nashville BBQ is completely different from Texas BBQ. Nashville is more pork ribs and dry rub centric whereas Texas is all about the beef. Peg Leg is known for their competition style ribs. They have lots of awards and trophies showcasing their dominance in that category. They smoke their meats daily and make from scratch sides. Their menu isn't huge. You have a variety of appetizers and entrees mainly focused around chicken or pork of some sort. If you come looking for some beef, you ain't gonna find it here. We went straight to real food and skipped on apps. My friend and I decided to share a rack of ribs and two sides. The food was ready after a little wait. First impressions just from looking at it, I knew we were in for a treat. They were heavily seasoned and I expected a salty bite, but their mix of spicy was just right. The ribs itself fell right off the bone. They have sauces on the side which were pretty good. Dry rub was good on it's own though. For our sides, we got potato salad and baked beans. I liked the beans a lot, but the taters were just ok. We also got some banana pudding to get a little something sweet. It was mid at best. It didn't really have a pronounced banana flavor. The manager on the phone told me to bring the food and the receipt and I could get it fixed, so I drove down there and she tells me that it's going to be an up charge for the difference. It's going to be a little more than what I paid. Mind you I don't even have shoes on, I was in the middle of preparing dinner and jumped in the car to come down there to fix their mistake... I was pretty appalled that they took the meat, typically if food has been taken all the other places I've been to have said just keep it. We can't take it back... But we'll get you a new one. So then I asked for more barbecue sauce because with 2 pounds of meat, they only gave me two little shot glass containers of barbecue sauce. She then asked me if I wanted to buy a jar of barbecue sauce, to which I replied, no I'd like to have more barbecue sauce for the 2 pounds of meat that I bought from you.
