I ordered the lean brisket, jalapeño & cheese sausage, mac & cheese, spicy beans, and cornbread--and every single item delivered. The brisket was tender and flavorful, the sausage had just the right kick, and the sides were classic comfort food done right. The lean brisket spicy beans especially stood out. This was a great find on our trip to Nashville. It's located on the outer edge of the mall and was especially convenient since we were staying at the Opryland Hotel nearby. The counter service was friendly, and the menu was easy to navigate with something for everyone. I ordered the 5 baby back ribs combo with mac and cheese, coleslaw, and a drink. Everything was pretty good, but the mac and cheese was definitely the standout. There were several sauces available right at the table, and while none of them completely wowed us, it was fun having so many options to try. Mission BBQ is a chain BBQ spot with this location at Opry Mills being one of the four in Tennessee. Wven with their expansive locations, this is our first time trying them and we were fairly impressed! They are located at the far end of Opry Mills and while connected, they only have an external entrance, which I can appreciate. Normally we avoid Opry Mills, and honestly still do depending on the day or time of year, but Mission BBQ is worth the trip, especially on a weeknight. It is walk-up/counter style ordering, where you take a number and it's brought out to you. They also do takeout and online ordering, which is what we have taken advantage of. The restaurant is local centric and patriotic forward with lots of military photos and memorabilia throughout the dining room. While not my general variety of spot to frequent, the dining room was clean, drink station was well stocked and the service was friendly. Food was prepared well, and ready when I arrived. I appreciated that they waited to show me each plate before bagging it up. Really nice touch! Food wise we went with a three meat plate with sliced turkey, moist brisket and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Sausage and turkey were excellent, the brisket was a bit fatty for me. I will go with the lean option next time. I sided it with green beans with bacon. They were tasty, nothing special and definitely bacon forward. We also got a shredded chicken sandwich with fries, and a child's chicken slider with macaroni and cheese. Chicken sandwiches were solid, with plentiful shredded chicken that was tender and seasoned well. Sides were okay. Overall, we enjoyed our meal from Mission BBQ. This place is amazing! Let's start with the incredible kindness of the staff. They seem to love the work they do and help you to have an amazing experience. Next, the bbq meats are some of the best we have ever had! Great selection of both meats and southern sides. The ribs here are my favorite! So flavorful and falling-off-the-bone tender. This Mission BBQ location is conveniently located at the mall. Service was fast and we loved the pulled pork and the ribs. The lean beef brisket was a little on the dry side, and the moist beef brisket was a little too fatty. Our kids liked the mac and cheese and fries but the cornbread blew me away---it was sweet, slightly crumbly, and came in a big portion. Large order Togo! Ribs, Brisket and Smoked Salmon. Every bite was to die for! Of course, I am an Army veteran and I also was given a free Banana Pudding dessert. My order was ready in minutes. But the staff member it's National Anthem time. We proceeded to the Flag area and the entire customers and staff rose to honor the USA! This was an outstanding ambiance demonstration. During a work trip to Nashville back in September, I had a strong "I really want some Barbecue" moment. The South is known for their tremendous barbecue flavors, rubs, herbs and spices and I could not leave before I checked out one spot there that while it was a franchise --it was known to be a staple in the city.. Jumping straight to it Mission was great! Their service was fast, convenient and courteous. I remembered saying to myself, that was pretty easy. You can select your protein, sides and veggies. With a normal restaurant level noise ambiance and welcoming environment for everyone, you could really tell it was the place to be that afternoon as this location was right around the corner from the Grand Ole Opry. From the tender juicy ribs, to their greens, the food was great. My mouth is watering thinking about it. What made it fun was their assortment of sauces you can try on each bite. More restaurants should adopt this style of serving up their sauces when it comes to barbecue. Their banana pudding had a subtle sweetness and was delicious. It reminded me of the way I use to eat it growing up. This was a tremendous first visit to the Country Music Capital of the World and a wonderful way to finally quiet the beast within that just wanted some barbecue! read more

This visit was disappointing from start to finish. We came in hoping for a good meal and ended up with overcooked food and a less-than-friendly atmosphere. We arrived about an hour before closing, and it was immediately clear the staff was already focused on cleaning up even though five tables were still seated inside. When we went up to order, several employees looked visibly agitated that we'd come in, which didn't make for the most welcoming start. We spent around $130 on several orders of ribs, brisket, a burger, and multiple sides. The majority of the sides were pretty tasty, but every meat dish we ordered was overcooked. The burger was completely gray and hard throughout. When I showed the inside of it to an employee, I asked if this was normal. He looked at it and said, "It's a burger." I clarified by asking if they were typically cooked that well done. He said, "Not usually, but we don't have any more." After I asked for a substitution, he grudgingly agreed to make salmon instead. The salmon that came out was also badly overcooked and tasted fishy. Every adult at the table tried it and agreed it wasn't edible. Aside from one half rack of ribs that was just okay, everything else was gray, dry, and a letdown. Service didn't improve the situation. I crossed paths with one employee three separate times, including twice when I was picking up parts of our order from the front counter. I thanked her each time, and she never acknowledged me. After the second and third time, it was clear she heard me but chose not to respond. What makes this even more surprising is that a few Google reviews talking about "meat that falls off the bone" were what made us want to eat here. Our entire spread was the exact opposite. Maybe it was because we came later in the day and the crew was tired, but the outcome didn't change. It wasn't money well spent. We planned a lunch visit to Mission Barbecue on our way to Gatlinburg after checking them out on google. The manager was very friendly as she stopped at our table to ask where we were from. (St. Louis metro-east) and tell us about their "mission". We all enjoyed our burgers, pulled pork, ribs, cheesy potatoes, bottled soda and fries. Food/Drink 4/5 You order up front everything is à la carte. I got a platter with pulled chicken, collard greens and a side salad. My wife got the grilled shrimp and macaroni/cheese. Both orders came with a drink and corn bread. The pulled chicken was moist and tasty. The collards were OK... a little mushy for my taste. The corn bread was the best I ever had. I normally don't like corn bread but I would eat this if I could find the recipe. The side salad was probably the most disappointing as it was mostly shredded iceberg lettuce that was not very green, two little tomatoes and cucumbers. It could have used a larger portion of ranch dressing. The sauce selection was great with six different varieties. Each sauce recipe came from a different region around the country ranging from Memphis to the Carolinas. I tried them all and the Memphis Belle was my favorite followed by the Smokey Mtn. The picture included show my ranking Left (Favorite) to Right (Least Favorit It included unlimited soft drinks including sodas, teas and lemonade. I love every single aspect of this place. From the location and decor to the overall quality of food and pricing... Mission BBQ is 100% "On Point." First of all, I'm very much a fan of the fact that they "Support the Mission" when it comes to their involvement with the support of our troops, protecting national security and honoring those that have unfortunately stood their last watch. It's juicy, it's flavorful and it is easily complimented by the variety of sauces at your disposal. Helpful hint: DON'T DROWN YOUR MEAT IN SAUCE! I was so eager to try each and every sauce, that I decided instead, to make little piles of each sauce and dip my freshly sliced to order, brisket sandwich into each pile. NO REGRETS! I partnered up my brisket sammy with a hot cup of Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese and washed it all down with some kettled brewed iced tea (sweetened, of course!)... and I tell you what... after spending a full week in Nashville, this was, without a doubt... my most favorite meal. My coworkers who joined me in sharing this meal both ordered a 3-meat, meat sampler and they both truly enjoyed the brisket, sausage and pulled-pork. It is nice to see a place that pays tribute to those who serve in the US Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice. The set up is very casual and reminds me of some of the BBQ places I went to in TX. We stood in line, ordered and paid for our food, sat down and wait for our name to be called. I really enjoyed Mission BBQ. We visited twice during our time in Nashville. Kudos to this place for taking care of our Veterans. This location is very clean and the staff is respectful and kind. Both times we came in I got the Brisket Sandwich and it was mouth-watering delicious. I couldn't decide which BBQ sauce I liked the best so I just tried a different one with each bite. I had fries the first time and cheesy potatoes the second time. I preferred the fries as the cheesy potatoes were very rich. We ordered a slab of ribs with coleslaw and potato salad as our sides. With the various BBQ sauces offered at the table, we were able to sample them all. Decent BBQ. I just got into town and needed some real food after a long day trying to exist on airport snacks. This place had one really important quality--location. It's located at the Opry Mills shopping center just down the road from my resort. I love that the restaurant is dedicated to military, police, and firefighters. There are patches from all over the US pinned to the walls. I got the "lean" brisket which, I think, is the flap with the point and fat layer removed. It was tender, smoky and delicious. There are a variety of sauces on the table. The BayBQ (Maryland coast) style was me favorite. This would have been perfect with a beer. The baked beans had way too much Liquid Smoke flavor, which definitely seemed like someone had messed up the recipe. The cornbread was also pretty dry. They have a wide range of BBQ sauce options to choose from. I tried them all, but none of them really stood out as being all that great. The service was pretty good overall, though one person behind the counter insisted on screaming at the top of her lungs when an order was ready, rather than using the PA system that other employees used to call out orders ready for pickup. The location is convenient, with both indoor and outdoor seating. But cleanup was definitely being neglected, which took away from the experience. Overall I just wasn't impressed. We were walking around the Opry Mills Mall and this sounded good to us for supper. We chose to share the 3 meat sampler with brisket, pulled pork, and turkey. We ordered sides of green beans and salads. The young man taking our order at the counter was very friendly and helpful. When the food was ready, they called our name and we went back up to the counter to get it. At first, the side salads looked tiny, but they packed a lot of lettuce in those little containers, and it was crispy and fresh. The meat portions also seemed small, but maybe because it came out on a big platter. All of the meats were smoked nicely and were tasty. While we were there we met a 99 year old veteran who had his picture up on the wall. As for the food, the brisket was nice and juicy, the jalapeño and cheese sausage was a bit spicy, the pulled pork was good, the bbq shrimp was plump and delicious, the green beans had plenty of bacon flavor, and the broccoli salad was absolutely delicious! My two year old LOVES bbq and it's something we lack here in Boston. This was our first stop after checking into the Gaylord resort - so close and I am still thinking of the food. We were in Nashville for Thanksgiving and decided to order our Thanksgiving Turkey from Mission BBQ. Ordered by calling their catering number and specifying a pickup time on Wednesday. Pick up was easy and timely. The turkey breast and leg came with a pan, bag, and reheating instructions - the best options they said was to put the breast in the bag and cook in the oven for 2-2 1/2 hours. Ours took longer than that - probably closer to 3 - so just keep this in mind when preparing. We were staying at house rental, so I'm not sure how standard their oven is. The turkey was outstanding. Moist and flavorful - definitely had a strong smoked and spiced flavor on the skin. I did not pay attention to how many pounds we got, but we had enough for Thanksgiving and leftovers for multiple days for four of us. While I was there, I also picked up a ton of meat for us to eat for other meals around Thanksgiving since we were in town for a couple of days - pulled chicken, pork, sausage, and brisket. Brisket was a little dry, but all had great flavor. Our favorite was the chicken. Also got it with the cheesy potatoes, salad, and caramel apple cobbler. I would recommend all sides but the salad.
