They got their start selling floor standing console radios in the 1920s, & have remained on the cutting edge of electronics, & the technology leader ever since. They are most likely the oldest consumer electronics entertainment company in America (if not the World's oldest), & they are still family owned & operated. I've been to plenty of other stores where the "customer service" was condescending and tried to upsell me. Soundscape was very different. Ed listened to my needs and budgetary restrictions and gave me several incredible options within these parameters. He was helpful and insightful without being pushy or condescending. We also listened to some really great tunes on really great speakers while I was deciding. This was exactly the experience I needed to make an informed decision and I will return when I'm ready to purchase any more home entertainment audio equipment. I'm testing my new system on Pink Floyd's The Wall right now!

To me, this response avoids taking responsibility or showing much professionalism. It also includes claims that simply aren't true--at no point did we tell anyone to go to our uncle's shop or say he'd do a better job. That never happened. We 100% do NOT have an uncle or bloodline family that has a shop. Weird how he chose to go with that fabricated claim. The guy was Carly's coworkers brother.. I did get a laugh out of the part where he says he's reporting my reviews. Personally, I'd rather they stay up. Let people read both sides and decide for themselves what happened. If you're confident in your version of events, there shouldn't be any issue with people seeing both perspectives. Below is the series of events paraphrase.. My girlfriend and I were in the store while another couple was discussing selling a large reggae record collection. The owner was already talking about other stores and possible buyers for a collection of that size. Since the conversation was already centered around outside options, my girlfriend casually mentioned another local shop that might also be interested. The response was immediate and hostile. Instead of simply saying he preferred competitors not be mentioned in his store, he repeatedly raised his voice, saying it was "unethical" and asking, "How dare you come into my store and try to steal people?" His voice got louder each time. The interaction became so uncomfortable that another customer followed us outside afterward to make sure we were okay. Even the couple involved commented on how strange and over-the-top the reaction was. What makes this especially confusing is that the conversation was already about alternative stores and potential buyers. We're customers, not business owners. Most people wouldn't expect that mentioning another local shop in that context would lead to being publicly yelled at. Needless to say, I won't be returning, and I can't recommend a business that treats customers this way. If you take this review with a grain of salt, that's completely fair--but understand that, in our experience, simply mentioning another local business during a conversation that was already about other shops was enough to earn a public scolding. The photo below includes the owner's response. It conveniently leaves out the fact that we had already been talking with the couple and that multiple outside options had already been discussed before Carly made her suggestion. He's entitled to his version of events, but it doesn't reflect what happened that day. Regardless of the disagreement, I don't believe it's appropriate for a business owner to speak to customers--especially by repeatedly yelling at a young woman--in the way he did.

Gramophone carries the very best in all the categories and groupings that constitute the vast repertoire of audio equipment: bookshelf speakers, floor speakers, CD decks, amplifiers, turntables, receivers, sound bars, isolators, precision cabling, and much more, exclusively featuring only the most reputable, trustworthy brands in the high-end audio equipment market. For the nascent audiophile who is a recent entry to the world of high-end audio and who might be challenged by the dizzying array of available high-end audio equipment that graces the market, fear not, for Gramophone's employees are the most knowledgeable, skillful, and passionate in the business, bar none. Of equal importance--and perhaps even more so--they are willing, able, and sincere in assisting you in whatever way possible, since they instinctively know that the purchase of high-end audio equipment is a deeply personal, serious decision and one involving a substantial financial investment. Case in point: in Spring 2025 I made the leap from an owner of a reliable, intermediate, matched stereo system that had served me in good stead for decades to a complete high-end audio system consisting of Yamaha, Sonus Faber, Marantz, and Tascam audio equipment. The Gramophone employees assisted and guided me at each step along the way as I assembled a high-end audio system that met my needs, musical tastes, budget, and personal expectations. The end result is that I am now the proud owner of a complete high-end audio system that fills my home with exacting, precision, enriching sound quality that I have so keenly desired for such an extended period of time. Another category in which Gramophone is unmatched in the world of high-end audio is that it stakes its very reputation on standing behind every product that it sells its customers. There is a personal situation that I encountered with a product--a Sonus Faber Lumina I Bookshelf Speaker--I purchased from Gramophone a short while ago. While time and space do not allow me to go into great detail about this situation I will personally attest that Mr. Justin McMahon, one of the Gramophone high[er]-level managers, took care of every detail that impacted this situation and replaced the defective Sonus Faber Lumina I Bookshelf Speaker and its mate with a pair of brand-new Sonus Faber Lumina I Bookshelf Speakers. It is demonstrative of the professionalism, courtesy, and laser focus on customer satisfaction exhibited by Mr. McMahon that has elevated Gramophone to loftiest pinnacle of exceptionalism in the highly competitive world of high-end audio equipment companies. Lest I be remiss in completing this review to my satisfaction I must also pay tribute to two other Gramophone employees: Joseph Moscatell and a young man named Daniel. Joe Moscatell has assisted and guided me in ways too numerous to mention throughout every step of each purchase I made with Gramophone, and there have been quite a few. Daniel is a young man whose knowledge of audio equipment belies his youthfulness. When I was researching high-end audio equipment it was Daniel who took great pains to explain in excruciating detail the functioning, performance, and harmonizing of high-end audio systems and how best to match components from various audio manufacturers to achieve an absolutely flawless sound quality. Having now passed mid-life I am no longer a young man; ergo, by this time in my life I have dealt with scores and scores of companies, with some ranked appallingly poorly to a few at the extreme other end of the quality continuum, thus earning a very high mark. As a consequence of dealing with scores and scores of companies, I have, out of necessity, developed a much-needed sixth sense for evaluating their overall quality, reliability, and trustworthiness. In all my many years on Planet Earth I am respectfully honored to state that Gramophone is, in all likelihood, the one company that has exceeded my extremely high expectations in every possible way. Keep up the outstanding work, Gramophone; your class, precision, and excellence absolutely do not go unnoticed. A supremely satisfied customer. Mr. Nick Glorioso
