please be aware don't take any of your electronics there to get repaired. The guy is not even certified and he is very unorganized. I would not buy any electronics from them either because they are not fixed correctly in the first place he should vinyl records. I wouldn't want anybody to make the same mistake. Great little store with a diverse selection of Rock, Psych, Prog, Jazz, Soul etc. The owner is really what makes the shop special. After retiring from a career as a brilliant engineer, he gets to repair and/or tinker with vintage audio equipment and listen to vinyl and reel to reels all day. Not many people have this skill--- and the ones that do don't openly chat with you about it the way this guy does. He is as rare of a find as some of his records. I had my parents' old stereo receiver sitting in the basement - never been serviced and it was worse for wear, at least in terms of how it functioned (outside was great though). G&T tuned it up like magic - new light bulbs, fixed the corrosion around the knobs...it works like new. Well worth the price for reviving old memories - now I just need a record player so I can have this thing ring out Boston or one of my dad's old classical music platters. Thanks! read more

I bought my TEAC GF-680 in because the power button suddenly ceased working. Thinking that maybe something came loose, I checked for a reputable audio repair. I came across Grooves and Tubes. My unit is an all-in-one type of component that includes a turntable, dual cassette deck, radio, and 3-disc CD changer. All components were working just fine before the power button ceased to work, with 3 CDs still inside the unit. I bought my unit in on October 10, 2023 and just picked it up today (November 2, 2023). When I bought it in, my only issue was the power button. Now my CD tray will not open, the selection buttons for the tape and phono options are either missing, or damaged so that I cannot push the button, and my turntable won't play. OH, the three CDs, two were recovered, one simply poofed! Supposedly nowhere to be found. I bought it in with one simple problem, now my unit is trashed. I found a place in Levittown, PA. Hopefully they can undo the damage and restore my unit so that I listen to my music. Buy records, but don't bring your audio equipment for repair!! read more

I've been taking my vintage gear to Grooves and Tubes for a couple years now and am consistently pleased with the results. Basic turntable maintenance took only a few days. My cassette deck was a more complicated matter--refurbished examples of this model are expensive and hard to find--but after a few months, Gerald had the belts changed, wow and flutter issues and vu meters fixed and it works fantastically to this day. Most recently, he replaced some transistors on my Marantz receiver and it sounds smoother than ever. A beautiful late 1970s-era Pioneer receiver I bought here several months ago also still works like a charm. I usually pick up a couple Jazz or classic rock records whenever I'm in the shop too. Some things I especially appreciate about Grooves and Tubes: 1) Repair and maintenance costs are very, very reasonable. 2) All repairs, maintenance, and equipment purchases come with impressive warranties, which are scrupulously honored. I've only had one warranty-related issue thus far, and Gerald took care of it straightaway, no questions asked. He stands behind his work, which says something about the quality you can expect here. 3) Gerald is honest with respect to costs and repair timeframes. It's also easy to call for updates. I can't recommend Grooves and Tubes highly enough. If you enjoy vintage hifi and you're anywhere near greater Philly, you owe it to yourself to check it out! read more

Extremely and unnecessarily overpriced record store. I've been to literally 8 record stores between 10-30 mins away, and none come close to the prices here for the same records. You'll find the same records for a dollar or two that are like $8-10 here. Completely taking advantage of the customer. Never seen a record store with no records under $3 read more

Grooves and Tubes has provided one of the best record shopping experiences I've had. Their name is quite literal. They provide both grooves (a.k.a vinyl records) and tubes (along with an assortment of tube-related vintage electronics such as amplifiers, speakers, and turntables) and not much else. This decidedly retro feel even extends to the scope of albums sold here. It's mostly 50's - 60's pop / rock / jazz / classical. It will take you a while to thoroughly browse each tightly packed box of vinyl here but it's worth it. I caught myself gasping several times upon holding albums I'd only previously seen in books or on the internet. The majority of the items do not have price tags, but when the (very nice and friendly) owner tallies up your total he is more than fair. Also, while you're perusing their collection, you have the pleasure of overhearing the other (exclusively older male) clientele geek out about their hi-fi systems. It was fun for me, at least. I don't know too much about the technical aspects of analog sound systems, but the museum quality vintage equipment here is beautiful and great sounding. I kind of wanted to keep this place a secret, but I also want it to do well so please come here for all of your vintage music / electronic needs. read more

This place is place is pretty awesome. First, the dollar bin is huge and has some great finds. Also, the store selection has some pretty interesting and rare records at fair prices. The store is not huge, but, outside of Philadelphia, it's pretty big, all things considered. Also, there is a very large jazz, soul, and pre-60's selection if that is your thing. Also, the guy that runs this store is a good dude. RECOMMENDED. read more

I travel a couple times a year and always looking for the best vinyl stores. I'm just back from Paris and checked out Croc records on the left bank. The prices at Croc were 2-3 times what they are at my fav store Groves and Tubes in this quant little antique store mall in Centerville, De. A man was trying to deal for a copy of the Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers album, the one that Andy Warhol did, they wanted 45 Euros $60.00, I bought mine at Groves for half that, hell I think I paid $20.00 for it. Your missing a real gem of store if your not checking out this place. Open only in the afternoons on Thursday through Sunday, you may want to call before hand. read more

This is a rad little gem of a record store. There's something comforting to me about the smell of that many old records in one place. As stated in other reviews, this place is exactly as advertised, Grooves and Tubes. He has a nice selection of old tube stereos. They also do repairs on vintage stereos. Although you will find some rare gems from time to time, it's not something they specialize in. I get the impression that they more or less are buying out estate sales, sorting all the junk out, and selling the records that are in good condition. So with that being said, you'll find plenty of 60's and 70's classic rock, blues, country, jazz, some big band, and even some some records from the 80's here and there. I love going to this place to fill out my classic rock collection. read more

Grooves and Tubes is a gem and definitely worth the drive if you're not nearby. The prices are very fair and well marked. Gerald takes sleeve and LP condition into great consideration when pricing things and you'll be blown away by some of his mint condition records. Great varied selection at this small shop. Lean on punk and hiphop, but great classic rock, jazz soul. Huge dollar bin section outside and very large $5 records. My biggest complaint is no listening station, you have to ask the owner to play stuff (even though there are 2-3 turntables ready to play things) I probably would have bought twice as much. read more

He is semi-retired and does not want to be deluged with work, which is, I believe, why he does not yet have a web presence (and may never). Anyway, I can highly recommend him... Great place for finding decent shape vinyl and their dollar section is always worth a look as well. I always find something everytime I go there. The owner is a real nice guy and knows his stuff. Great if you are looking to fix that amp, or turntable to it's former glory, too..or damn close to it. A five star all around in my book. read more
