Three out of my four children went to Confident Driving School and had a great experience. (My oldest child went to a different driving school and that was a disaster.) My youngest just passed his drive test and is looking forward to getting his license when he turns 16. I was very pleased with the professionalism of both David and Sherry. I felt they took their job seriously and wanted my kids to be "confident drivers". I loved that the classes were on zoom and I didn't have to drive my child to class and then wait two hours to pick them up, as I did with my older daughter. I felt the feedback from the drives with the instructors was both fair and helpful. I 100% recommend Confident Driving School to anyone. read more

I gave confident driving lots of grace a few years ago when my daughter took the course because it was doing during COVID. Now it seems the classes are lazy and quite frankly, I feel my money was stolen as we have to redo the course (obviously we will be going elsewhere). The classes are still held via zoom and not in person at all. both Sherry and David share so many personal anecdotes and talk about random things it's hard to follow along. on the drives, they focus on what the driver is doing wrong instead of helping them become confident drivers. If you have a kiddo that's anxious at all about driving or needs more encouragement look elsewhere. Don't give your money to lazy instructors who only care about making money and not building confident drivers. read more

This is a terrible place to take your kid to! My son was humiliated by Sherry multiple times. My son doesn't want to drive anymore after going to this place. The students in her class refer to her as hitler. I condemned my son for participating in it until I started watching and recording his zoom classes. DO NOT GO HERE This place is a joke! $425 and there was ZERO instruction was taught. David is condescending, unprofessional and should not be working with youths. This place is unorganized and I wish I would've done my homework before wasting my money. He never told us what was being done right/wrong or showed us any test results, even after asking. My kid studied her butt off and still failed and even after that he wouldn't show her where she went wrong. Dalivn was awesome and actually taught her instead of sitting and texting on his phone. If I were to take a driving test anywhere, it would be here, it was amazingly short and straightforward. There wasn't anything bad to say about the experience, there was however, a problem with getting into contact over the phone with them. Other than that you can expect to pass with ease if you know the fundamentals. 5/5 experience, 2/5 communication. read more

There is a reason they are the cheapest driving school. The owner and operator of this school is a terrible person to have teach your kid how to drive. If I had any more kids - they would go anywhere else. The owner belittles kids, talks on his cell phone while having kids on drives, and is all around a terrible driver. My phone number was mistakenly confused with a student enrolled in their program. Despite informing each of the employee's multiple attempts over the course of two months to contact said student that they have the wrong number - even a formal email to their website - I am still not only being contacted but being sent contact information for all students enrolled and being put into group chats with parents. This morning we saw one of "confident driving school" muscle cars was speeding down a residential street in Montavilla, followed by another street racing car. The cars slowed down when we shouted our disapproval just to speed up and practically pull a cookie. We were a big family group with very small children. We are concerned about the speeds and general reckless on our small residential streets. As should a "confident driving school" be. In Portland, last year a record number of pedestrians where killed by drivers. If "confident driving school" were involved with one of these horrible deaths, it could very well have horrible consequences for your "business". From all appearances, it seems "confident driving school" is selling "how to be an asshole". Please stop. There are already enough on the road. read more

In Washington state, your teenager is required to take driver's ed in order to get their license. As a parent, I hated this initially. After all, I'm a great driver(just don't ask my wife). I can teach my son. However, because my son wants his license and he doesn't want to wait until he's 18, I had to enroll him. So like any parent I went online and started looking for schools near me. My son happens to love Chevrolet Camaros. Imagine my surprise when I saw a Camaro on the front page of the Confident driving school website. I emailed and asked about getting my son enrolled. (I know they won't be driving sports cars, but I thought it was cool anyways) I recieved a reply within a few hours and had my son enrolled shortly after that. The fee was modest compared to the competition, and there were openings on several dates. Communication was great up to the start of class. I was able to email or text whenever I had questions about anything. I attended orientation with the other parents and they explained class procedure and what to expect as well as what they expect from us. The class my son is taking is located in the Camas location(Lacamas Fitness). His teacher is a wonderful lady named Sherri. You can tell from the beginning that she is very experienced and cares about the students she's teaching. She demands respect(not in a drill instructor way, but in a mom way). She is very engaging with the students and shares some personal insights from her own experience. Students will drive behind the wheel of a driver's ed car and are graded on their performance. Parents are allowed to ride along during these drives. She seems to be very fair in her grading and is willing to explain what needs work and how to improve. This is getting long so I'll summarize. 1- driver's ed is required. 2- since your child has to go, you might as well send them to a good school. 3- for the money, the quality of education your child receives here is outstanding 4- I'm not as good a driver as I thought! read more

I would stay far away from this driving instruction school. Everyone of our kids friends that went through the class with our daughter didn't pass the driving portion of the school without bringing cash for 3-4 "extra" drives that needs to be handed to the instructor before the drive. If this seems like a scam... I'm sure it is and probably they are not reporting this income to the IRS one could be sure. My daughter has disabilities and they belittled her while driving and we paid many extra times to pass the driving test and they won't let me go with to see how they are testing her and just say oh well she didn't pass after paying all of your money. Washington of course has a law where your child has to pass one of these classes to get their license. There is no competition and only two companies around us that offer the service and they charge heavily. I'm not even sure how low income families are able to afford the services. I finally got a call back from a manager of the company Allie and she was rude about me even daring to wanting to talk with the owner David. He called us back after my wife sent an email and I had talked with the manager 3 days before. David started the call with a condescending remark about us not putting any effort into teaching our daughter to drive and said she was not a good driver. I had many many drives with my daughter and she was impressing me with each week that went by and I was shocked that she couldn't pass this. Until my daughter explained that the driving instructor was stressing her out with everything on the drive and condescending when she would make any little mistake. They marked her down with things like "driving to slow," "doesn't turn right on red when legal" things that are not safety issues and she was being extra careful as the instructor was very stressful. The instructor was also yelling out quiz questions as she is driving and then telling her immediately that she messed up and stressing her out. I would never recommend this service to my worse enemy based on the attitude of every person at this company that I had involvement with. Please do yourself a favor and if you live in camas or Vancouver go to the other driving school that has good reviews instead of this one and maybe David will get the picture once no one goes to his driving school. read more

We pay for INSTRUCTION for our kids, and what actually happens is that they expect US to teach, and they will check your work every two weeks. I should have probably wrote this when I was 16, but better now than never! Confident Driving Instruction is a no-nonsense, detail orientated class. I've heard horror stories from various other driving schools where the instructor just pops in a movie and calls it good; this is NOT what you will get at this establishment! David, the wonderful instructor, lays everything out comprehensively and makes sure each lesson fulfills particular Washington state requirements. Slackers beware: (first off, you probably shouldn't be on the road if you failed to take time and learn the rules) You MUST attend every class session, though make-up classes are available for emergencies. He has a small fridge full of soda and water bottles for students to partake in exchange for .25 cents. There is also a giant glass jug of candy for students to partake in for free. The reason being so students would stay awake and alert with a dose of sugar. He is by far one of the nicest, patient, and personable, instructors I have encountered. Driving school cost around $250, which was one of the least expensive at the time- I'm not sure of recent rates. read more

All the teachers treat the kids horribly and scare and intimidate them....while they're doing their driving test no less! Confident Driving Instruction is where I went to driving school. My experience there was excellent. The owner is David Gile, he teachers all classes at this location and all the other ones. David Gile has the funniest humor and makes class exciting, he makes up and tells driving examples on the spot. He really does know what he's doing. He supplies the class with a never ending jar of candy, a vending machine (new) and water. In the first day we had an orientation that helped us get familiar with the whole situation. We where all told how everything works, the classes went by quick, and I got my license in no time at all. I recommend this place because it's a lot cheaper than other schools, and the classes are full of education. read more

I'm giving this school 2 stars because one of the driving instructors was great. We've had two children go through this school. Though we had success, I cannot recommend them. They don't have enough instructors to offer a good offering of times for drives, classes are late which I'm sure works for some people, but definitely not if you have kids in sports like we do. I was exhausted not getting home until 9:00 on school nights, still have homework to complete, etc. By far the worst is Shari - her style is simply awful. She tries to impress parents and kids alike with a "higher than mighty" communication style (which accomplishes the opposite), from opening night. When kids struggle with the exams, she doesn't bother to offer assistance, look at the exams to see if there is an area that she may have done a poor job of communicating - nope. Shari blames the child and seems to be unable to self-reflect. Sadly, I've heard the same story among friends. 911 is a better solution I suspect, have heard wonderful reviews from parents. read more

Don't remember the owner's name or maybe my brain purposely forgotten because he was THAT horrible. It's sad and pathetic (for him) that I even have to take time writing this... years back I was sitting in a class, doing my written exam in the back of the room. I guess he wanted to get my attention and called me by the wrong name multiple times. Wasn't my name so of course I didn't turn around. He then decides the best decision is to throw crumpled paper at me and tell "Ching-chong ling-Wong" I highly regret not reacting in anger, after class he only even apologized for calling me by the wrong name. All in all he's an unprofessional, bigoted, little man who should NOT be exposing racist and idiotic behavior to young kids who are just trying to learn how to drive... read more

I went here and just got my license today, I didn't study for my written I just went off of knowledge from what I learned in David's class! And I passed my drive with a 96! Hi I'm Igor B. a former student at Confident Driving Instruction. David (owner&instructor) is the most passionate teacher I've ever learned with. He cracks jokes makes us all laugh & have a great time. I I would give this school a 10+ rating if I could. Best 375$ I spent on school. Would recommend for anyone trying to get there license. I did not have a good experience with the location on Gher Road. I was five minutes late and they refused to test me but when I called to reschedule they informed me that I would have to pay again when no one told me and it says no where on there website that I would have to pay again if I missed the appointment. I stated that to them and gave them my number to have the manager call me back and never heard anything. read more

This business is extremely disrespectful to its local residents and neighbors. They frequently drive too fast down our normally quiet streets where pets, children and families like to walk, ride bikes, and play putting us in danger of inexperienced drivers. They use our cars to practice parallel parking risking damage to our vehicles. When I've requested they change or expand their routes to different streets they've denied my requests. Please consider a different company that is more considerate of the neighborhoods in which they are guests. read more

Giving this school 3 stars because the actual in class and driving training was great!! David was great as an instructor and my son really liked Sara who did most of his in car instruction. When it came time to take the in car driving test he made an appointment with David, expecting that David would be giving him his test. That was not the case. His test was at the Gher location, we arrived and went inside and another lady was there but nobody else. The lady was waiting for her friend who was taking her drivers test. When they came back, this super unfriendly guy comes back in with her, he didn't say one word to us which was fine he was helping the other gal. Apparently she passed her test but was telling her friend she drove onto the curb. Once they left he barely gave us a nod, I lid the fee and off they went. He didn't chat with my son, didn't acknowledge me, except for payment and was just plain intimidating. They went outside and were gone for no longer then 5 minutes. My son came back in shaking, said he failed and pretty much wanted to jet out of there. The rude man gave him the paper saying he failed and didn't even explain to us what he did except he pulled out in front of someone. I was shocked. No explanation, no instruction on what we can do to help him with his next test nothing. My son didn't take his next test until today because he lost all his confidence. Maybe if he'd nicely explain to us what Happened and wasn't so rude it would have been different. We will not be sending our second child to this school. He just took his second test today at another school and they were great when I explained how nervous he was about this test because of his past experience. He passed and they were so nice there. We definitely won't be going back to Confident. read more

This driving school was great. David is very calm when you are driving with him which is what every teen needs. Especially if they're used to having their parents freak out while driving with them. I chose his school because it was the cheapest but it is one of the best driving places out there. He makes sure people understand and is willing to answer any question you have. His goal for every student is to make sure that we are out there driving safely. He is a really nice man and cares more for just the rules but for the students too. He's not intimidating like many people think when they think of driving instructors. When you drive with him, its nothing like the experience you'd have with driving with someone from the DOL. I had never driven before his class, and even though I'm sure i would have scared any other adult while driving, he was very cool headed and made sure i knew what i needed to work on, and he will work on it with you until you get it. read more
