I took my daughter into this driving school to take her permit test. I wish I would have read the reviews before I did. We went two different times once during the week and again to do a retake on the weekend. I experience two different women staff members, and the experience was the same, lack of customer service, cold, careless and get you in and out as fast as possible. The women wore masks around their chins, there was no friendliness and neither of these ladies seem to be able to mulit-task well without becoming frustrated and taking it out on anyone that walks through the door. What pissed me off more is the test examiner himself asked me before I started to do the last set of questions on the last page asks"Are you about done yet?" And shortly after calls his wife on the phone while I'm STILL taking the test to tell her that he was running a little late that he'd probably be done/home in 20mins or so. And ALSO he let someone listen to their headphones while taking the test on an mp3 player. Uhm last time I personally checked that's prohibited on ANY state exam. DOL needs to investigate this. Scammers!!! Be aware!!!!! I went there to take the driving test. Charged 50 dollars. The guy taking the test made a few racist comments and then kept talking the entire test and distracting me. I have been driving for more than 10 years with no accidents! He FAILED me in the test and out rightly LIED about things I did or didn't do! I just finished putting my 3rd child through this driving school. I am thoroughly impressed with this school's way of teaching. I am not from the NW and find that drivers here are, in my opinion, bad! I was so excited to see that Centerline teaches driving the correct way - they follow the laws. Jeanie is a kick in the pants and such a nice woman. Chris, the owner is phenomenal as well. I would highly suggest Centerline as your driving school of choice. There is a serious problem with the woman who answered the phone when I called around 10:45 this morning. I tried to explain to her I currently an Oregon resident and have an Oregon Identification Card, however my Washington drivers license is suspended and in order to have it reinstated (which would result in Oregon allowing me to have a drivers license) I need to take the knowledge/ driving exam. I also advised I have documentation from the DOL showing my name and Washington drivers license number. She was rude, abrupt, talked over me, and was unwilling to hear anything I was saying. She kept repeating I need to finish with the courts before I can take the driving tests.. mind you I have been finished with courts since 2015. Anyways, I called another driving school and they said my credentials were more than sufficient and I have an appointment to see them on Friday. read more

NO customer service After seeing that they are one of the allowed testing locations for Washington license, I reviewed their website carefully, noting hours and services. We drove over during the hours posted ON THEIR WEBSITE. Apparently, the hours are wrong, we went to the office to find that NO ONE was at the desk/office, although we could hear voices in the building. We waited for 10 minutes. NO ONE came to the desk. We went outside, where I called their number. I was connected to the answering machine and asked for a call back for an appointment. (It seems that 'walk in' really means we don't acknowledge that you are here.) We waited for several hours, no call back. I called again. No call back. Every time I've visited the office, they have been unorganized. Sometimes they are friendly and sometimes they are distracted and abrupt. If you're there during a "shift change" you might as well just take a seat and wait for them to figure everything out. In one case, the woman in the office was downright rude when I asked her a simple question. She was in a lecturing mood and I had to put up with her rant. Bad timing on my part We were told that if we were referred by someone, that person would receive a gift card as a Thank You. When we filled out the paperwork for this, we were told they are "behind" in mailing these out. So, I'm not sure if our referral ever received the promised gift card Some of their classroom/drive instructors are knowledgeable and helpful. Others are not as engaged, so are not very good. They try to make sure you don't have a choice in actual "behind the wheel" driving instructors. I was told "all our instructors are great". But, we didn't share that opinion. They have one fantastic instructor that everyone wants. It's why people come to the school. By not acknowledging that and working with the less popular teachers to improve, they are really missing an opportunity to improve their business overall. I've heard mixed reviews about many of the driving schools, so I'm not sure how Centerline stacks up. But, they definitely have room for improvement in their customer interactions and general organization. read more

Excellent, friendly, professional. It is clear that they want you to succeed. Also: 1. Only 10 bucks more to use their car for the skills test. very fair price compared to some other schools. 2. If you fail your first WRITTEN test attempt, you get a single retest for free. Again, very fair, so if that happens, you can go home and study your tail off and come pass it in a day or two for no extra charge. My experience: Moved back here after being out of state for a few years, and accidentally let my out-of-state license lapse by a week and a half. To get my WA license, I now had to take both the written test and the actual skills test in the car. Some of the yelp reviews I read about this place were pretty brutal, but when I read them closely, they had the tone of a special snowflake beginner driver that maybe didn't do so well on their test, (eyeroll). (No offense, just trying to find the best place :-) The woman who answered the phone was clearly very busy (had to put me on hold), but was polite and responsive. (I actually don't mind if I call someplace, especially local, and they are very busy - I usually take that to mean they are doing good business, so they're possibly doing something right. But hey - my opinion only) I indicated to her that I was trying to knock these tests out ASAP, and she took the time to clearly explain my options in the manner of "If you are comfortable taking the written test now, you can come in at this time, then you could take the skills test at this time, but if you need to spend a day refreshing on the written test, you can take it on this other day, and come in for the skills test on the weekend..." (How bad am I at writing dialogue? lol) I took option B, because I haven't taken a driving test in many years. Note: You can find many good FREE practice tests online to get you dialed in. Result: passed the written, past the skills test. Helpful hint: for those re-testers who already know how to parallel park, the test is really not that hard - but try to avoid touching the curb with your tire, even slightly. :-) read more

This place is a scam. The owner is rude and angry. He purposefully failed my son on several occasions just to make more money. When my son got a different instructor he passed no problem. They are also not following cdc guidelines for the coronavirus. The owner Chris took off his mask while doing the test and was eating and coughing all over the place. He also touched my sons hands without a glove or permission. They charge extra to use their vehicle because it was being sanitized which it was not. The secretary also was not wearing a mask. After reading the reviews on Yelp regarding the office staff, I was very hesitant (AKA fearful) to ever speak with the office personnel. However, my interactions have been very pleasant! The first time I met with someone in the office it was the owner's wife (although I did not know at the time) and she looked a bit disheveled, but she was very kind and never once made me feel like a bother (even though we were in at the last minute of the last hour before a holiday weekend). The next time I met with someone in the office, it was the "official" office person and she must be the one everyone talks about, as she was very flustered and frustrated at the time. My advice is: give her a break. We've all had to deal with more than we can handle at times and she must be super capable at doing what they need or else she wouldn't be in this position. Apart from the office staff (who does NOT teach your student or do the drives with them), Centerline Driving offers really top notch in instruction. I attended every one of my daughter's drives and was so pleasantly impressed with the care and concern and level of attentiveness that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this school to anyone else in the future. read more

Customer service. The front desk. You'll see a theme with all the one star reviews. Her name is Jean Wilson. I have NEVER experienced someone that rude. Not just to me- everyone! Every single person who came in the door got the Jean treatment. Even the driver trainers (all male today) had to put up with the flat-out abuse. It's not poor service- it's abuse. I almost walked out, but decided to stay (I need to get my OR changed to WA for renewal & a lot of these "schools" have bad reviews.) My apt was at 3:30. She actually yelled at me when I walked in the door. She said, "we tried to reach you!" They hadn't. "We had an opening at 3." Which she had earlier assured me they wouldn't. She then told me "YOU were overwhelmed! You should have been here earlier!" I actually was having a nice afternoon lunch- I wasn't "overwhelmed." There was about 4 people there. Every single one of them was with head down. Any sort of competence or sanity had already been sucked out of that room. Earlier in the day she had fully insulted a very nice Hispanic teenager who was interpreting for her very polite mother. If Jean has been anywhere else she would have been promptly kicked out. If you HAVE to go here, please don't take the verbal beating personally. If you are anything other than white & male go somewhere else. There is no excuse for this downright shameful behavior and racism! It is wrong on so many levels! Business owner- DO something about this appalling behavior! read more

I have to give 5 stars for going above and beyond! We had dropped in yesterday 10/17/16, only to find out drop in hours were over. Instead of making us come back another day, they made every effort to accommodate us. We were able to take the written test. Then, they had an unexpected cancellation, and offered us the appointment! To no surprise there are already negative reviews posted in regards to their front office. I couldn't agree more with all of them. Over the course of my child's classes I called in several times during business hours. Each and every time it went straight to voicemail and either never got a call back or wouldn't hear from them for several days. Unfortunately, I had to resort to just dropping in where I realized a larger level of dissatisfaction and incompetence. They are clearly disorganized, possibly understaffed, and I too have witnessed rude behavior at times. As for the behind-the-wheel instructors I found that to be a positive experience. They even allow parents to join which I found very helpful to keep a level of consistent learning. All were patient, communicated effectively, and provided helpful instruction. Each drive felt like a learning experience and not an exam. They too have to deal with young clients in a stressful environment, but seem to pull it off. read more

I've never heard of this business, but happened to pull up behind one of their cars with a male driver and a very young child in a baby seat as well. We were at the stop light on top of the interchange at St. John's and SR500. The driver seemed edgy, pulling forward, stopping quickly, repeat. Then apparently the presumed driving instructor decided he could wait no longer, and turned left against the red light. Unfortunately, in addition to this being against the law, the driver also did it just after the light from EB 500 to NB St John's had changed to green, and he and his child passenger were nearly hit by a car turning on to St John's. Pretty terrible judgement and execution in my observation. I'd look elsewhere if I were looking for a good driving school. read more

After reading past reviews, this seems a bit redundant... But I want my "pound" of flesh, so here it goes... My daughter is a very accomplished student and a self starter. She chose this school because some of her friends thought it would be fun to sign up together. The poor kid (and her poor old man!!) cannot get free of this place! They conveniently fail you over and over for nit picky stuff and as has been stated in past reviews, on every re-test... There is another charge (seems like as in politics and healthcare... a conflict of interest!!). I have been driving with this young lady for better part of a year. She drives better than at least half of the other drivers on the road... And I drive for a living, so I think I know!!! My biggest beef with this aside from the financial gouging, is the affect this has had on my kid. Of course I want her to be careful and mindful, but NONE of us are robotic and flawless in our driving... I don't see how we get out of here if EVERY time the instructor finds a way to fail you and you never get failed for the same thing. I assure the reader: this 3.4 student.. and VERY responsible, self-starting young lady, can drive a car SAFELY... And I would assume, become more adept as we all hopefully have... since we have legally gotten behind the wheel. Seeing her NOT able to get through this obstacle, and becoming more demoralized with each "fail"... hurts FAR more than the money. To all parents: there HAS to be a better school than this place... The teachers are great, but the lady in the front office always has a bad attitude. She belittles everyone that i have seen her correspond with. Have you ever met a person who feels the need to be rude to younger people, just because they are old? Well, if you haven't now you know where to find one. She is so unorganized, cluttered, and horrible at customer service (yes, i paid for a service and expect good service). There is a bit of disorganization in any small business, but I found one great quality in this one that puts it head and shoulders above all other like businesses; they truly CARE about turning out great drivers. They also extend themselves to special situations. Have a teenager who is deathly afraid of traffic in Portland? Know someone who flips out from taking any sort of test? Failed the road test several times? Are you an older driver who has a relative that wants you to be reevaluated? They will assign you an instructor that will calm you down, always talk nicely to you and fan the flames of your own confidence. Deathly afraid of driving on the interstates? No problem. Can't parallel park to save your life? Easily solved. Ashamed of not being able to read English that well? There are many languages available and even orally given tests are given respectfully and professionally.The patience and steel nerves of the instructors is phenomenal. This IS the place! read more
