He also only accepted Zelle. I knew that I should've gone with my gut instinct about that bc what proper business only accepts Zelle! Anyways - he apparently hired an architect that he never met to do our house. This guy was terrible. No communication - submitting things to the city that we didn't okay. Plans were approved by the city and we hired a contractor. The contractor pointed out if we did the plans they submitted we would have a 3 ft high family room! We went back to Jacob and this and he yelled, screamed and said this is now our problem. Run away from this scam artist! read more

Max Wolf was the contractor from Concept Renovations that we initially consulted with and who ultimately spearheaded the huge project for us. We told Max our list of wants and he and his team delivered beyond our satisfaction. Our home looks and feels like a brand new home! Not only was Max's team amazing at their job, they were quick. After the initial waiting period for permits, demolition began on July 29, 2024, and by February 2025 we were all moved in to our beautiful "new" home. Hiring Jacob from Concept Renovation to remodel our bathroom was one of the worst decisions we've ever made. From start to finish, the experience was a nightmare. Jacob showed up to sell us on the job, then virtually disappeared. He made maybe one other appearance during the entire project (oh, perhaps to pick up a check!). We asked for a discount when we first negotiated the price, which in hindsight was a huge mistake because it seems we got the "C team" as a result. It turns out Jacob doesn't even employ his own team--he just subs out the work to random contractors and slaps Concept Renovation t-shirts on them to create the illusion of a professional crew. While the workers themselves were polite, the lack of accountability and oversight was glaring. And it wasn't just oversight--the people he sent to the job were, frankly, incompetent. The stone fabricator clearly didn't know what they were doing, and Jacob had to send a second tiler after the first one botched the job. It felt like he was just throwing "not best in class" people at our project without any care or consideration for quality. As for Jacob? Every interaction with him was unpleasant--his attitude was dismissive and condescending. Fast forward three years, and the bathroom is falling apart. The walls around the shower are decaying from water damage, and when we reached out to Jacob to address it, he immediately deflected blame. He claimed the issue was with the shower door, which he conveniently says isn't his responsibility--even though he was the one who outsourced the company to install it. Worse still, it's clear they skipped important steps that could have made the shower area more waterproof, and not once did they suggest better options during the project. Concept Renovation is the definition of unprofessionalism, poor craftsmanship, and zero accountability. If you care about your home, your money, or your sanity, look elsewhere. EDIT:-------------------- I feel the need to respond to Jacob's comments regarding the timeline and wear and tear. Yes, the project was completed 3.5 years ago (the review mentions 3), but I'm not sure why that matters. As for the claim that the issues are simply due to wear and tear, we have another bathroom in the property that was remodeled before this one, and it is in significantly better condition--proving that this is not just normal aging but rather poor craftsmanship. Did they use the proper drywall for wet areas? No. Did they properly seal all areas? No. Did they use the correct baseboards for wet areas? No. Did they advise us on potential water damage risks? Nightmare Experience- Terrible Communication, Disorganized, Being Treated Rudely in Our Own Home, and Average Results. Our project was two bathrooms and a fireplace removal. We had to cancel the second bathroom halfway because the experience was overwhelming. Besides some initial delays due to materials and permits, the contractor, Phil, often took random leave, 2 to 3 days per week, and even once for nearly a full week without providing any explanation. When we followed up, both Phil and the project manager, Max, blamed the delays on our material orders; however, he took time off without even checking the material status with us. Scheduling was a mess. We'd be told someone was coming the same day, then get time changes midday, or be told someone would come tomorrow and not hear anything until they didn't show. It was hard to tell who the actual client was. We raised these concerns and saw minor improvements for a couple of days--but then everything slipped right back to chaos. The most upsetting moment came when my husband casually asked a coworker about the progress and next steps--out of curiosity, not criticism. Phil overheard and suddenly yelled at him in our own home. He is 5' 10", about 200lbs. It escalated fast and left me so shaken that I had a panic attack and had to leave the house. I ended up needing therapy, and to this day, I feel anxiety just walking into the newly remodeled bathroom. Eventually, we decided to terminate the rest of the project and informed Max. However, the invoice they sent still included charges for the second bathroom and for electrical work that was never done. After two rounds of negotiation, we got a corrected quote. Their finance team responded quickly--but that was the only consistently professional part of the experience. One last thing: after removing a closet frame, Phil left the ceiling and floor messy and promised to fix it--never did. We had to ask Max to send someone else in to repair and paint it properly. The quality of the work? Passable - it looks okay at first glance（based on the materials that we selected by ourselves）, but closer inspection reveals a lack of attention to detail. If you're considering this company, be aware: you may end up managing the project yourself while living in a high-stress, poorly managed construction site, and a borderline hostile experience in your own home. read more

We reconnected with Max a few weeks after he provided an initial quote for a kitchen laundry renovation. We resumed communication over text and email to revise the scope of work and update the estimate with the intention of starting the work. He sent over a revised estimate, but it didn't include any of the full contract details--no legal clauses or standard terms. When I followed up to ask for more information and flagged a few basic items that should be clearly outlined in the contract--such as warranty terms--Max stopped responding entirely. I've since seen a few reviews here mentioning poor communication, and I'm relieved we discovered this before handing over any money or signing anything. Decided to add a full- service bathroom to a downstairs room, used as a all-purpose room (office, family, entertainment, etc). As I get older, I realize that it might not be so easy to get up and down the stairs to the two bathrooms upstairs. Rudy and his staff did an excellent job to not only assist me in deciding what I wanted it to look like but also in meeting the projected timeline to complete the job. I tend to ask lots of questions and Rudy was extremely responsive in explaining what I was asking about. They also found a leak from the bathroom pipes from upstairs so that required another fix for upstairs. They also connected with the City of Long Beach to get the necessary permits and the required three-level approvals. What started out as a bathroom renovation for a small 8x9 bathroom turned into a major redo of the primary suite, new Fleetwood Windows, THE BEST tile work I've ever had done using ANN SACKS tile, custom vanity and all new custom cabinets and closets with lighting in every bay. First of all, I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled to do one in this instance. My husband and I recently purchased a 4bd, 3ba home in Studio City and wanted to remodel before moving in. We have had extensive experience with gut renovations and my husband also works in corporate real estate so he is very familiar with construction processes and costs. I provide this context because we have worked with all types of contractors from good to bad to evil and have had a range of experiences in the past. I can unequivocally say that Jacob and the Concept Renovations (CR) team is the best residential contractor out there. If you are familiar with contractors, a lot of them overpromise and underdeliver, hitting you with change orders and hidden costs at every turn, often going over budget and well over time. You will not find this with Jacob and his team. They are honest, reliable and and we felt they had our best interest at heart. This is priceless, especially in our situation where we gave him an almost impossible timeline to meet, ahead of the arrival of our new baby. He managed to meet the timeline and budget- often having workers work late into the evening hours and almost every weekend through the construction period! To summarize, our project involved replacing all the flooring, baseboards and window casing throughout our 3000+ sq ft home. We also wanted the whole house repainted and had a number of cabinets demolished and the walls opened up. We also had a doorway terminated and relocated some French doors. There were a number of things we threw at the CR team during the construction such as installing a custom, feature wall in the master bedroom and relocating j-boxes and switches. Jacob and his project manager Val kindly threw in a lot of these last minute changes for us at none or nominal cost. Val is amazing to work with and we consulted her on a number of design questions which she was happy to advise on pro bono! She is super responsive and frequently at the project site making sure things are on track. She even had the guys haul away a lot of junk the previous owners had left in our garage! Overall the work done by CR is of the highest quality and we were thrilled with the end result. Every worker and tradesman that entered the home was friendly, respectful and HAPPY (which says a lot)! My husband is a stickler for details and every paint imperfection, nick and scratch that was identified in the final walkthrough was taken care of. We've worked with Jacob on 2 of our homes in the last 4 years and we highly recommend as they have been incredibly professional, responsive, and deliver on your vision. Our first project was on our 1920s bungalow which included a 100 sq ft addition to a kitchen reconfiguration and powder room addition. It was super important that we blend the old with the new and Jacob and his team listened to our needs and delivered. We increased the scope mid project to update the exterior with hardscaping, landscaping and paint. The home was truly a dream but our expanding family led us on our next adventure. Our second home is a 1950s original build that required every inch to be touched. We reconfigured spaces to open up the floor plan and completely rebuilt the kitchens and bathrooms. I simply cannot recommend or compliment the Concept team enough- if you're debating between contractors pick them. You hear all of these nightmare stories about contractors and unless you have a solid word of mouth reference from a person- it is so hard to find a good one. It's hard to trust online reviews when you're about to put so much money into something that has to be done right. We were pretty nervous as we interviewed about 5 different ones. . With Concept they are a one stop shop- complete w design, they help get the permits for you etc. We were doing a total gut renovation on a 1920s Spanish bungalow in Glendale . Concept Reno was a dream and they probably still are. I needed to Reno a kitchen, powder room, a guest bedroom and a serious paint job throughout the house. It took 2.5 months from start to finish along w new floors, correcting electrical (because the 60s house I moved into had some massive mismatch and combobulated throughout). The team is a dream. Super responsive, patient and very attentive. They work together very nicely and it made the job run smoothly. All subs are suuuuuuper nice. The demo crew was phenomenal. Concept Renovations has been our go-to kitchen remodeling agency for almost 5 years. The first time we approached them was in 2013 when one of my friends in West Hollywood suggested me to recruit them to redesign my kitchen. Since my husband was too busy with his job, I dealt with them throughout the process. I took their help again last year to make my kitchen kid-friendly so that my 2 toddlers wouldn't be able to cause spills or catch handles while running around. Their project manager, Jonathan and designer. Ayelit first listening to my needs and came up with a proposal and a set of options. They decided that the cookout should be kept out of traffic areas and also made sure that none of the cabinet doors had sharp corners. Now, there is finally a designated place for keeping kitchen knives on the wall instead of taking up counter top space, which is a huge relief. They also proposed to keep the refrigerator accessible to both passersby and the person cooking in the kitchen. While it sounds like a small deal but it saved me from a lot of cleaning and mopping. I spoke to a rep and was told I can continue to post as long as I adjust the original post to remain within compliance of their TOS. He told me it was defamation of character and refused to hear the truth that consumers have the right of speech to let other consumers know of their poor experiences. I left the lawyer on hold as I called my lawyer and was advised not to talk to their attorney. I blocked the number but still revceived a blocked voicemail message which I am including below. "Hey Matt this is [lawyers name]. You know if you don't want to talk to someone it might be nice if you just tell them that as opposed to putting me on hold. I will be sending you a letter and filing a lawsuit against you unless those posts..all those posts are removed by 5 pm this Friday and I would need to hear from you immediately that you're going to do that, otherwise I'm going to start preparing this and that's just going to be that uh [phone number] You have until 5pm this Friday uh to remove the posts, uh otherwise I'm going to be suing you. Good bye." Consumers - please do not be scared my Concept Renovations lawyer's threats and be wary of this company as they think it's okay to have their lawyer make threats. It's been 3 months and I never received that letter in the mail from the lawyer or from the court. I wanted a last minute redo in my kitchen and a fresh look for my bathroom coming into this new year. I called several companies and looked at some on both houzz and angies list and ended up hiring these guys. They had availability and a great attitude. The work was small and only needed 3 weeks to finish everything, really 2 weeks of work and one week of my picky yet indecisive personality and charm. Anyways they were GREAT! Wanted to write something great for them and to wish them a great start to this new year... 2019!!
