I stopped into Concannon's as I was leaving Muncie. I was in the mood for coffee as usual and a local baked good. It's a nice shop. Staff is very friendly and were enjoyable talk to on what felt like a slow morning for them. The coffee was good and I got both a danish and a donut (not surprisingly I had to stop at a bathroom about an hour outside of Muncie on my drive) and they were good. The only downfall is that I was hoping to relax a bit and do some work while at Concannon's, but they have no WiFi. The setup is more of a store and bakery than it is a cafe. While they have chairs and tables, it's not exactly a great environment even to sit down, eat, and have a conversation and read. That's something I was hoping for with the experience and that just isn't there. Otherwise, it's a very good spot. Also, Concannon's is just blocks away from a place called Bad Boys Bail Bonds. So, this is a good place to come to the morning after you have to pick up your friend from the nearby jail. read more

I usually reserve a 5 for the best of the best. There may be better bakeries, but this is amongst the best I've been to. The only minor knock I have is customer service. There is an expectation that you will know what you want when you get to the counter. Never mind the counter is 60 feet of doughnuts and danish, you are expected to know if you want a box or a bag, how many, etc. No time for uncertainty. A bit like New York. Sometimes the staff comes across a bit indifferent, like "this might be special for you, but I've handed out 40 dozen this morning already". But these are minor issues when viewed with the quality of the product. Most excellent. Go - indulge! read more

I had the chicken salad croissant with the loaded potato soup. The croissant was overflowing with a cranberry chicken salad, very good tasting. The Loaded potato soup was some of the best potato soup I've ever had (Don't tell my mother-in-law). All of the desserts looked amazing and it was hard to decide which to get. We went with something we've never had, the puff pastry. It wasn't as I expected, more solid than I thought and very sweet icing on the inside and outside. It wasn't horrible by any means, but I will likely try something more decadent next time. read more

I'm a new Muncie-ite! In my hometown there was a family owned bakery with the most delicious baked goods that I thought I'd lost by moving away... but Concannons restores my love of donuts. They make a lot more items but their beautiful, delicious, variety of donuts is awesome! The biggest problem you'll have in choosing which one you want today! If you're from the mid-west, OK, I get it. You don't know any better. However, being from NY, I have tasted far, far better better than this. Like the donuts, all their breads taste the same. Rye taste like their white which taste like their wheat and so on. Also, I find no difference between their donuts and Payless, Target, Walmart, etc. Payless has better artisan breads. Unfortunately, there is no competition so this is as good as it gets, folks. read more

Very disappointing seeing how it's already Monday and if you're like me I'd like to get some good breakfast on the way to work to start the week off right, when I drive by on Monday's I can't tell you how many cars you'll see circling the parking lot because they see their closed. Thought I would try this local business again after being fed up with their price gouging over holidays. Cashier was totally indifferent to me. Had to ask what I was purchasing. Returned my change with any acknowledgment. She was too busy talking to another coworker about non work related issues. Obviously this business has too many customers and doesn't need any more. Concannon's has been a Muncie staple for a long time, but I realized the other day that I had never had their muffins. Bought some blueberry muffins the other day and, wow, really not impressed. First, muffins are not cake. Supposed to be a denser texture. These are cake, plain and simple. Worse, we are apparently in some sort of blueberry shortage, because they really skimp on them. This place is so cool and totally unexpected when you behold it from the outside (to me the building exterior looks a bit more like a doctor's office than a bakery). I was completely overwhelmed by all of the options, all of which looked wonderful. There was a line at the counter, which I always take as a good sign, especially given it was snowing the morning I was there. Concannon's has been a part of my weekend ritual for many years. Visited today to find almost half of the patrons in line not wearing masks. When I asked my sales clerk why the staff was not asking the customers to put on masks she replied " we are not required to". We ordered a birthday cake which was picked up 7/11. This cake was very stale. The icing left such a horrible after taste. None of our guests are more than two bites. I called this morning and spoke with a manager, Sharon. She said they only bake cakes 1 or 2 times a week. Well, there you go. That explains why the cake tasted stale. I image the icing was very old as well. Perhaps even spoiled, causing such a horrible taste. Never got an apology or any kind of offer to make it "right". What a gigantic waste of $30 for a small cake. Just remember next time you need a cake, don't call them. read more

The wonderful smells that surround you as you walk in the door are worth the trip alone! The doughnuts were delicious. There is no price per dozen as I'm used to. Instead, they are individually priced but there were no prices displayed on the trays. And labels for the type of doughnuts would have been helpful for newbies like me. The clerk patiently answered my questions, but was distracted and several chosen doughnuts were missing when I got home. I had a 1/2 Cobb salad in the cafe. It was a very generous size and also came with roll, butter, and snicker doodle cookie on a cute little tray. Next time, I would order the dressing on the side because it was applied heavily. The service in the cafe was excellent. There were loads of beautifully decorated cakes and a case of chocolate candies. The seating area was very pleasant. People drive from Indianapolis to have donuts here. I can't say that I blame them. Colcannon's is a Muncie classic. I was very glad when they built this second store. They have wonderful sandwiches and ice cream and coffee. I haven't tried their candy, but I intend to in the near future. The popcorn is pretty good. The big question is, what about the baked goods? Well, Concannon's has never had the greatest bread or pies (too sweet, crust not flaky). But their donuts used to be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. They were crispy and the icing was rich by not cloyingly sweet. I think they used to use lard to fry them up--but I don't think they do anymore. The icing seems sweeter than before, too. The same goes for the cakes, which used to be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G x2!!!! I hope they can get back up to snuff! read more
