My experience from 7/21/25. A few issues, overall lack of value, contentious interactions from staff and not good follow-thru. Originally took there for my fiat 500 as it had an episode of hard starting after storage. I asked to replace sparkplugs, look it over, do an oil change, tell me what the check engine lights where on it. I get a call next day (they also were able to get me in quickly) that the car was done but they recommended replacement and cleaning of various air filters. I agreed to all costs. They called a little later and said it was all good to pickup. I asked them about the check engine light, to which i was told "thats not on my work order, if you wanted us to diagnose that it would be around $200. I said how can your guys do a tune up, check over everything and miss a check engine light?? The guy was not interested or had the patience to apologize and simply said "do you want us to do that?" I declined diag and said i just want what ever codes present to be notated. I picked up today and wanted to go over the invoice. Again met with resistance and any lack of service or cooperation. I asked to know how they arrived at the labor cost of $300 to replace 4 spark plugs in this engine. (Plugs cost $100 in parts). They admitted they dont have a published labor rate (not a good practice imo to keep honest and transparent). But they said the system they use to build the job was Mitchell and it called for 1.52 hours for the spark plugs, which means their labor rate in their system is around $191/hr. For an independent shop that has 3.5/5 stars. I talked to the guy i spoke with during intake and asked why he didnt put the check engine light on the work-order and further why his guys (that he trusts to do everything correctly without documentation), failed to bring up a CEL found during an intake. I am a first time customer and simply asking for justification, if they care to provide service or wish to repair the beginning of a new clients relationship. Their reply was "no, we are not going to be able to make you happy so we just need to move on". Move on I will, not feeling its unreasonable to validate why a business charges the way they do and holding them accountable when they don't do what they said they were, are resistance and not accommodating when called out, and their techs are not thorough enough to notice a check engine light and notate or dig deeper. read more

I'm really questioning this place and its treatment of customers. I don't know if it's just me as a Black man or if this is how they treat everyone. I live just a few blocks away and was on my way to Costco when my car notified me that I needed to top off my coolant. Since this shop was right there, and my usual service center--Mercedes of Lynwood--was a bit far to drive with low coolant, I figured I'd stop in and see if I could pay for a quick top-off. When I walked in, I asked the front desk if I could pay for a coolant top-off. The guy at the desk asked for my car's year, make, and model, then asked if I had ever had service done there before. I told him I had tried, but either they couldn't get the part or didn't have time--can't remember exactly. His response? "I don't have time." Meanwhile, there was a customer just sitting in the waiting room. I said, "Okay, I'll just go talk to one of the technicians." I approached a tech and asked if I could pay him directly to top off my coolant. He said, "No, but I'll do it for you--no problem." I really appreciated that, so I told him I wanted to thank him by sending lunch to him the next day. Later, I realized I had forgotten his name, so I called the shop to ask for it, just so they'd know who the food was for when it arrived. The person who answered told me they don't accept tips--which is fine since it was just food--but then went on to say, "Everyone is out to lunch, so he doesn't need lunch." I responded, "Okay, I'll just stop by after work to get his name so I can send him lunch tomorrow." Then the guy on the phone said, "Don't. Don't come up here talking to my technicians. They're busy and don't have time." He then went into this whole explanation about how they keep their prices low--information I never asked for or needed. That experience made it clear--I will never go back to this shop for any kind of service. And if I were anyone else, I wouldn't either. I live less than two minutes away, and I know most of my neighbors. Some of them take their BMWs and Mercedes there, and I'm sure they'll rethink that after hearing about my experience. Conaway motors worked in my Audi s3. After many hours of tearing it apart and trying to fix it myself, I accepted defeat and towed it to Conaway. They were fast. Took 2 days to diagnose, and 2 days to get it done. I had originally figured there was water in my fuel and thought I got it all out, but when Conaway took it, they diagnosed it with the same issue and cleared my tank + crankcase correctly. Eric, the tech who worked on my car was extremely knowledgeable and had great customer service. Had a great conversation with him over the car and he was super helpful. Told me exactly what he did. My float on my fuel pump was even broken (I told him don't worry about it), but he even fixed it for me when he took the fuel pump out. Along with adding a clamp to one of my loose hoses. And then told me other little things about my car just to make sure I knew about them Broken plastics/supports etc). Overall, was worth my money and great experience. They know what they're doing for sure. Adding on to that, Logan was super nice over the phone and even though I was being a pain in the butt, he stayed professional and reassured me. Brought in my old, very low mileage (77k) '97 Lexus ES300 presenting with a surging/stalling problem occurring when engine is loaded while climbing hills. Another repair shop had a replaced ignition coils, spark plug wires and fuel filter believing one of those were the cause of the malady. Obviously not because subsequent road testing brought a return of same symptoms. A few days later, I brought the car into Logan and Sam at Conaway Everett. After some preliminary diagnostics, they suspected the problem was sensor related and suggested I replace the MAF sensor that likely was faulty. No charge for the advice so I got the part and installed it. Symptoms persisted; so no benefit. After further investigation at Conaway, the EGR position sensor was replaced with a new one. However road testing on hills still brought out the same negative result. Ater a third visit to Conaway the new sensor was swapped for my old sensor that was kept for this eventuality. At this point Logan stated they could not pinpoint the problem but that it seemed related, in some way, to EGR related components. Also, that there would be no charge for work and time spent searching for a cause. Having, in the past, been a victim of the Guess ~ Remove ~ Replace ~ Pray method of auto repair; I was impressed and really appreciated the integrity and honesty in the service I received from Conaway Motors. read more

As far as the mechanical work, they did a good job and if you don;t mind having you vehicle's paint scatched and chipped, then by all means go there. But I do mind, and yes there was 2 new chips in the paint along where the hood meets the fender. They denied that they could have done it, but they didn't even ask the tech's about it. The Mechanics are very knowledgable about older imports to new computerized vehicles. They treat you as a friend, not a just a customer. Shysters tried convincing me that I needed a new engine. The mechanic Eric completely ignored the instructions I provided to him that would've fixed the problem I brought the car in for... I paid the $110 for a bad diagnosis and had the car towed back to my home. After building a custom tool, I had the problem fixed in less than a half hour and the car back on the road. I can happily say it's been performing like expected for over two years now. I chose this place on their AAA rating, the fact that I see a lot of euro cars in and out. The place is always packed. I've made it a point to inform all those I know to not do business here based upon my experience. Good thing I know a thing or two about cars otherwise I may have been subjected to their $4000 engine swap --- be warned, these guys are out to make a buck on your ignorance. read more

A wonderful honest shop who really know their european vehicles. I have a VW Eurovan (which a lot of shops won't touch) that they've worked on for me on three occasions. Every time, they are faster and less expensive than originally quoted. I have also brought them two different BMWs with the same results. My wife's Audi Q5 started missing on accelleration (spark plugs). We made an appointment with Conaway Motors. They were able to get us in the next day and they diagnosed the problem and found a vacuum leak. The car was fixed and it runs much better than before. The check in process was great, the front desk people were very knowledgable and called several times to keep us informed on the progress of the repair. These guys did a great job replacing the catalytic converter on my bug. I made some suggestions of what I thought the problem was, and the gentleman I spoke to kindly suggested diagnosing it without performing other services that might not fix the problem. He saved me money and he was right! I'd go back anytime. They had me in and out in a workday. My only complaint is sometimes they answer the phone while you're talking and cut you off... My parents started taking their cars to Helmut Kielow I believe in 1983. There was not a finer man with whom to do business. Always very professional, honest, and the man knew his sh**! Sadly, Helmut is gone now, but his sons (and the rest of the staff) are carrying on his legacy by continuing to do business in the manner that he did. You won't find a shop that has more knowledge of foreign (and domestic for that matter) autos than at Conaway. If you value your car, take it to them for your repairs and servicing! read more

I have been a customer off and on with Conaway Motors. Frankly, I am concerned. I want to keep going there, but it seems, they are are working with a marketing person that is directing them to upsell and do more regarding repairs that is not necessary. Plus, the repairs are more expensive than necessary and way more than in the past. I brought in my wife's car and my Porsche in the past. They went through our cars and the estimates and repair costs were reasonable. Now, it seems they are trying to extend the costs and further, add other costs that are also very expensive. The guy that called me to explain the costs, seemed too polished and of the nature of a sales person. Frankly, I feel sad that Conaway motors ownership, since apparently they are not owned by the family anymore... They have lost their way. read more

This has got to be the worst company I have ever gone to to get repair done. They have had my car for 3 weeks coming on 4 and have only worked on the transmission, the men seem nice although they do not know what the hell they are doing as they have only fixed the transmission 90% doing a half ass job. They told me I would have my car back on a specific date that we discussed the day before, and told me the next day they'd call me to come pick it up. I was disappointed in our experience here. My husband brought our car in for two things. 1. The air blower wasn't working and 2. Our car was taking in water and flooding the floors. Two and half days and $200 later they confirmed that the air blower needed to be replaced and could not identify the leak. My husband and I took the car home and after 30 minutes of trying to identify the leak ourselves, we found it. We essentially paid them $200 to hold onto our car for 2 days. I was frustrated that I, who knows nothing about cars, was able to find the problem within 30 minutes while the professionals didn't take the time to really find the problem. They were amazingly helpful in being able to order me a radiator hose and have it there within 2 hours, and get my car fixed! Have used Conaway Motors since I moved to the neighborhood 18 years ago. Have had lots of oil changes and repairs done with them over the years. If there was ever an issue they made it right. Recently my daughter hyper extended the doors on her van and they were jammed. Called them up to ask if they do bodywork. The owner answered my call and said bring it in and he would look at it. He got the doors working and made a dad and daughter very happy to get her van back on the road. read more

I finally got a phone call about my car about a week later... In my previous review, I mentioned they never called me back. The girl told me they had "lost" my paperwork... maybe she shouldn't be taking so many personal phone calls while she's on the clock, ignoring potential customers. So I found out the issue with my car. I had put in regular octane gas on accident... My car takes premium only... then my check engine light came on. Then I took in my car to Conaway and they told me that I needed a new catalytic converter. I used up the rest of that tank of gas and put premium in it and my check engine light disappeared. Okay cool! About a month later, my fiance borrowed my car and put a half tank of regular gas in it (he forgot to check his text messages where I told him only put premium in the tank)... check engine light came on again. I used up the rest of that tank, and like before, the check engine light disappeared. It was my own fault for putting regular gas into the tank. But I highly doubt I would need a new catalytic converter, as my car runs fine and no more check engine lights have come on since I've been methodically only putting premium gas into the tank. I'm not sure if they were trying to take me, or what the deal was but I am glad I didn't pay the high price of parts and labor. read more

In November 2012 I took my car to Conway Motors Inc because it was overheating and leaking water. I was told that I needed a new water pump and serpentine belt. The estimate was $500, $170 for parts, the balance for labor. I approved the work order for a new water pump and serpentine belt. Six months and less than 3000 miles later the car overheated and blew the head gasket. I decided not to get the car repaired again because of the age and high mileage of the car. I gave the car to my son who is in the process of replacing the head gasket. He is an experienced mechanic, although it is not his vocation. He took the water pump off and showed it to me. It is very worn and does not spin freely. It is the opinion of my son and the opinion of the guys at Nappa Auto Parts that it was either (a) a very well used, or (b) a rebuilt water pump, and it is not possible that it was new at the time it was installed. It has serious wear marks on all contact surfaces. A brand new water pump with gaskets and bolts was $65 at Nappa today. Conway charged $99 for the one they installed in my car. That is a 45% markup (at least as they probably get wholesale pricing) on a used water pump... nice profit for you, Conway! I realize there is no recourse towards Conway since it is well over a year since the service. However, I want to warn people to be careful to see the box on any new parts and reclaim replaced parts on repairs done at Conway Motors. I have heard similar stories from others since sharing my experience with this repair shop. read more

I took in a 01 jaguar s type 3.0 for a transmission flush, my quote over the phone was $200.00 they spent about 2 hrs checking the car out and gave me a list of trouble codes. When it came time to pay the bill was $164.00 OK I'll take that kind of quality service any day of the week. This organization will pad your bill 200% on parts costs and 100% on labor. Watch for them to jack the bill sky high when you come to pick the car up...(and remember that they hold your car keys hostage until you pay up...and contesting the bill later is nearly impossible). All of these repair shops want more and more cash...and they are relying on your shortage of time and lack of awareness to pull off this alarming practice. A spark plug that you can buy for $5.95, will be $14.95 on your bill....and it doesn't end there...If you bring the car back for what should be a warranty issue, get ready for another bill fucking and screwing..Yep, that's right..the warranty is a facade that doesn't really exist. They will simply recharge you for parts and labor that you already paid for on the original invoice..and again, they have your keys....YOU PAY ALL OVER A SECOND TIME...In summary, if you are desperate drop your keys off here. Otherwise, the state attorney general and better business bureau need to get after shops like this one because they are getting away with grand larceny....and remember..they do it because they can get away with it! read more
