Duvalin Matcha Latte (+Winnie the Pooh)
Karla L.

I go to Con Azúcar often since giving up Starbucks! My family and I love getting the Duvalin matcha latte, dulce de leche frappe, Jamaica refresher and gansito frappe. I have never had a bad experience here!! My matcha is always great (I just have to remember to mix it well) and today my barista left a Winnie the Pooh latte art on my drink which was a cute surprise!! The service is always great and the place is beautiful painted :) I'm glad there's a great Starbucks alternative coffee place here in Salinas.

Inside is sooooo aesthetically pleasing. the artwork and design is on point. The drinks are all well made, taste is good with a splash of spice. So delicious!!

Very aesthetically pleasing. I went around 12ish and luckily it was not that packed so I was able to sit down and enjoy the mural. The cafe de olla is delicious but it comes in a small cup. The latte was also good. I didn't expect the sandwich to be flavorful. Just be warned that it has a lot of mayo and if you are a messy eater like me you'll get your shirt stained.

Gansito Frappe (actually strawberry frappe)
Omar R.

I've been to this location multiple times. Today, we ordered a Gansito Frappe with a cafe de la olla. The coffee was okay. To begin, there was no line management so customers didn't know where to stand in line. However, the issue was we received a strawberry frappe instead of a Gansito frappe. We returned only to be told that it was the Gansito frappe when it's clearly not. The lady said that the frappe is usually this pink which is hard to believe. We've been at this location multiple times for the Gansito frappe and it's never looked or tasted like this, can't taste a Gansito. There didn't seem to be supervisors around, staff is very young.

Mazapan iced latte, forgot the name of the warm drink and a mini concha - which was from their mini pastry assortment bags.

I was here back in February, not too long after they opened. I walked in and there were a few people in line and plenty of open seats, which I was gladly surprised. I ordered the iced mazapan latte and their assortment of pastries. The pastries were okay, I could tell they were not fresh, but not bad. The mazapan latte was on the sweeter side. I would ask for it less sweet next time. The staff was not friendly or rude, you could tell they were still trying to find their rhythm. They seemed to need training or have someone take ownership in managing the staff. I believe there was 4-5 people and they all seemed to lean on each other, no clear direction from a manager. The place was clean but they had received a supply order and supplies were sort of in the way, there was a couple of staff members working on it. Overall it was an okay experience and I would go back. At this moment, I wouldn't say Con Azucar comes to mind when I want to go out for coffee. I mean, it's been 3 months since I was there and I haven't been back, but I do plan on giving them another chance.

Brown Concha Grande (didn't have in display but I asked & they had it ready to go)

We got the Concha Grande ($35) & it was fluffy, airy, & flavorful!!! Not dry at all!! The staff was friendly. There was a nice gentleman with glasses was helping us out & he had great suggestions. Everything was delicious!!! They had music playing & the aesthetic of plants was so cute!!

Entrance

I hesitated writing this review because the place just opened and I imagine there are growing pains with any new establishment. Also, I wondered if I simply ordered the wrong thing for me. So I looked around and it looks like this "franchise" is simply more in the business of appearing to be good than actually executing on service and quality. So many locations opening up and no consideration is being given to the countless complains for service at ALL their locations. Long wait times even on the "older" locations. It sucks for the investment into these viral businesses that have no proven concept. Best of luck, as for me, I can make better tasting coffee at home . I will add, even when the coffee is bad but the service is great you have a chance, here : quality, and service were subpar.

Even arriving close to closing, we were met with exceptional customer service, a thoughtfully designed menu, delightful pairings, and truly outstanding espresso. All of this unfolded in an intimate, charming setting that basically transported us to a European bistro. It's a rare and wonderful experience to feel so completely taken care of, and this café delivers it effortlessly.

The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, with trendy décor that is very appealing to the eye. When I arrived, it was a little challenging to find the full menu, and I wasn't greeted right away. However, I understand places can get busy, so I didn't let that affect my overall impression too much. I ordered the Panini Caprese sandwich, and my son ordered the Caesar salad wrap. My sandwich didn't look quite as full as the photo, but honestly, the flavor made up for it. It was delicious with great texture, and I loved every bite. I also appreciated that it came with pickled jalapeños on the side, which was a nice extra touch since I love adding those to sandwiches. My son rated his wrap a 3 out of 5. He felt there wasn't much chicken inside, and there also wasn't much Caesar dressing, so it mostly tasted like a wrap with lettuce. It would have been a much better experience if they had included more chicken and Caesar dressing on the side to add more flavor. Overall, I'd definitely come back and try this place again because I really enjoyed my sandwich and the café itself has such a cute, cozy vibe.

Anyways, im so glad my coworkers told Me about this place because it's been a nice addition to my frequent-places-to-visit-on-the-regular list. Honestly there is nothing I've had from this place that isn't good. From their lemonades, coffee, smoothies to their avocado toast, wraps, sandwiches, and cookies. They really nailed down their menu options! Not to mention the biggest thing, their staff is super friendly, welcoming and patient when you're trying to decide what to order. They may be located by the courthouse in Salinas but don't let that stop you for visiting. You won't be disappointed! & if you happen to need to serve jury duty, this is a nice spot to go hangout and enjoy a little break from doing your service. Or on any day, with some indoor outdoor seating!

Everyone loved the sandwiches as the ingredients were fresh and they use Otto's sourdough! I wanted to make sure to leave a review for those that are looking to cater a luncheon, send them an email at villariveracafe@gmail.com. Their phone is weird because it is through the govt building and goes straight to voicemail. I also sent them messages on their social channels before finding the email and they responded there too lol... email is way better. When you are trying to find them, they are tucked away under what looks like a bridge of a building in the center of the campus behind two pillars. Sorry I didn't get a photo of the outside so I hope this description helps. Racquel the owner is the sweetest and I hope you all support this cafe!

First of the cafeteria has a wide range of lunch option that are all delicious! I normally get the burritos or tortas but my partner has also tried some of the salads they offer and everyone has been amazing. But the baked goods are really where this place shines. I'm always impressed with the large variety of options that the bakery has. And while I haven't tried them all, every single one that I have had has been absolutely amazing! I would have to say that my top pick however would be their Tres Leches cups. It is absolutely divine and is hands down the best Tres Leches I have ever had no contest. They also do wedding cakes. I had my wedding this year in Monterey and they were able to provide an absolutely beautiful two layered cake with a perfectly spiced carrot cake as the bottom layer and a wonderfully moist Tres Leches cake as the top layer. Absolutely everyone was raving about how good the cake was!
