Iced Chai Latte with Oat Milk
    Abigail D.

Stopped by here and absolutely loved their iced chai latte! It's creamy and full of spice and flavor. I ordered it with a non-dairy milk option of oat milk. Customer service was excellent. Interior was simple yet had lots of character. Plenty of parking.

    Was ok lil dry scone

Any person that walks in is graded with a smile and a hello. All the employees were super sweet and had a smile on their face so they must love their job! I got the first frappe starting with Oax, which is dark chocolate and cinnamon and it was so good I chucked it down. I got Oreo one for my daughter and it was delicious. The scone was OK it tasted a little raw in the middle and dry, was ok.

    Iced Oaxacan Mocha

not as strong as other mocha drinks I've had, the smallest size they have is Medium for the iced one so keep that in mind when ordering! :)

iced vanilla latte (i would add an extra shot next time, kinda watery)

Given the low competition in the area for locally owned coffee shops (bc people in salinas just need 10+ starbucks locations?), this place quality wise is up to par. The north side definitely could use another 1-2 spots but I'm glad to see Viva has stayed consistent and weathered the years so far. I've personally never had service issues and everyone has been friendly here! Some of the highlights: If I want something blended + coffee forward, my go to is a Classico or Oaxacan Dark with no whip If I want something blended + sweet: Oreo If I want something hot: Oaxacan Mocha is a popular here, tastes like a mix of hot chocolate and coffee with a hint of chai, kinda sweet so not for drip/black coffee lovers If I want something iced: Dulce Canela or regular Iced Vanilla latte *add a shot to any latte here if you're picky about "watered down"/too much milk Iced Mint Mojito used to be a classic here but I think they got rid of it unfortunately it's no longer on the menu In a regular oat milk fan but they use the kirkland brand here which I stray away from bc it tastes like soy imo.

The Oaxacan mocha was delicious! Great cinnamon and dark chocolate taste and the cafe itself is super cute!

Are there any vegan food/pastry options?

Even if there are, don't get them. I have given Viva Espresso so many chances for their pastry's. Every time I get them, they disappoint me so much. It's like I forget how truly bad they are. Everyone knows it, but their coffee is so good that you… Read more

This is definitely not a place you'd go to for simple espresso drinks. We were content with our drinks: Curious George (mocha with banana cold foam), For the Girls (cold brew with strawberry cold foam), and Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso. The flavors came out as expected, but it is was on the sweeter side. The drinks here are on the pricier side. Each of our 16 oz drinks were over $10 after tax and tip. They offer larger cups too around 24oz, similar to a Venti from Starbucks. Given the price only, it's hard for me to justify repeat visits. The store itself is tiny. There is no room for you to sit down and enjoy your drink. The staff were great. They were kind and very attentive despite being very busy when we went. I'd only come if I'm craving their specialty drinks.

Pricing 3/5 stars for two medium drinks it cost $19 and to be quite frank, they pour a ton of ice! Literally 1/2 the cup and even sometimes, 3/4 of the cup will be with ice. This GREATLY reduces how much of the drink you are actually receiving. What's even more comical is if you ask for light ice they CHARGE you ¢50 more per drink the reasoning is "we are putting more milk and product". Come on, in all honesty you guys are just being stingy af. You already put very little product for these overpriced drinks, that do taste good, not gonna lie. This makes me only wanna come here maybe 1x a month as instead of more often. I understand that everything is expensive but overcharging your customers and trying to get over on them by creating the illusion that they are receiving large amounts that is magnified from the amount of ice you put is disappointing.

To be clear, yes, they sell donuts, but no, they do not sell ice cream; and, furthermore, it feels as though the donuts only exist because of the lottery tickets and scratchers that they sell as those have a better selection than donuts. That said, I did purchase a donut from their meager selection in the afternoon. Not sure if that selection was limited by the time of day, or simply reflects all that they have but the donut was decent, I believe it was called a cinnamon crunch, but the remaining selection of donuts were a small collection of cake and old-fashioned. Still not sure why ice cream is listed in the name as the sign outside the business does not reflect that either. I went to purchase my donut only to learn that they only accept credit cards for purchases over three dollars. Good to know my donut was under three dollars, disappointing if you fail to bring cash they have a decent sized sitting area in the back behind the lottery section. Ironically, I feel as though it is more generous than the area used to sell their tickets and donuts, the attendant was neither nor cordial. Experience was less than memorable. The only reason I chose to do a review to help others avoid a similar disappointment. My final advice, walk across the street buy some box donuts from Grocery Outlet and you'll be similarly pleased.

We've tried the pistachio drink, brown sugar milk tea with boba, the dnutty açaí bowl, the cutella açaí bowl, rio green bowl (it was actually blue), and the hulk green bowl. Everything we've tried has been delicious! The brown sugar milk tea has been my least favorite, but was still good and the boba was very soft and nicely chewy. All the bowls we've tried have been 10/10. It takes a bit for the staff to make your order, but of course! All the ingredients are fresh and everything's made to order - it's incredible. No complaints from me. I'd recommend Monky Bowl to anyone looking for quality food in Salinas for breakfast, lunch, or even dinner honestly - it's never too late to get your fruits and veggies in for the day.
