Me and my Fam wanted to try their espresso drinks. Arrived early morning (8am), right before the morning rush. We were greeted with a smile from the very nice young lady at the order counter. [You place your order, given a number to place on table--if dining in. You're called to get your drinks, but meals are served at the table] Aside from going there to try their espresso drinks, after looking at their menu, we decided to dine in and try their breakfast. First, the Espresso drinks that we ordered--Mocha Mexicano, Iced Shaken Brown Sugar were promptly served--and very well made, and tasty (perfect balance of ingredients). We were skeptical about how the food would taste. The breakfast dishes arrived, fresh and hot (not more than 10 minutes). We ordered Huevos Ranchero's, Meat Lover Burrito, and Chilaquiles Roja. Beautiful plated/presentation is one thing (as shown in the photo), but how it tasted is what's important. Well, for three individuals who are particular when it comes to meals (quality of meats/ingredients, the use of spices/ratio), the three of us weren't disappointed. Dishes with just enough spice to taste a bit of heat, yet not too overbearing that you couldn't enjoy the meal. The cafe's decor is culturally done up, and tables frequently wiped clean as patrons departed their table upon completing their meal. Today's visit made for a good start of our day. I got the chilaquiles half chipotle and half poblano. They were really good. The beans were very good. The potatoes were a little salty. The one thing that I did not like was that regular black coffee did not have refill and they had a long line to buy another one. I finished my food without coffee . They should also have an option of tortillas with the skillets. read more

Trying this place for the first time to support local businesses and ordered pumpkin spice latte, pink concha and abuelita chocolate with shot of expresso. Ordered the abuelita drink extra hot but I got it, it was warm. My wife said her pumpkin latte with added expresso was drowned out by the milk. I'm a little bummed out I tried this place in San Jose and was really excited for mantecas opening but it didn't live up to expectations. My mocha was very grainy and my husbands coffee was grainy as well which is weird he ordered el Cafe de olla, when I asked it about my coffees texture I was told apparently that is the way it is served I didn't end up drinking it, we ended up getting a concha and it was very stale and the serves at the pick up counter were very rude to my husband call it the stress of just being opened but this was not it at all. read more

I was excited about this Cafe and couldn't wait to go try. I've been trying to plan a time to go with my bestie, so yesterday, at the last minute we decided to go. Right when you walk in you'll just feel energy. The Cafe was super cute, and we were just in ahhh. The menu has so many options... that it was kind of hard to choose. I ended up getting a brown sugar shaken espresso with almond milk and a chorizo burrito. My bestie, she got a pina colada refresher and carne asada skillet. Both of our drinks were good, and very tasty. My burrito was great, but as for the skillet, once you moved the egg (which was paper thin and super dry)... looked like something's missing. She said that the seasoning was on point... but it needed something else maybe cheese. Overall, this is such a cute Cafe with great energy with good service. It's small, but perfect for this area. Tried this place a few times since it opened and I can honestly say very very welcoming and great vibe for sure . Only problem for us is when we go food isn't really consistent with taste and quality. Sometimes it's great sometimes bread is too hard and taste just different . I'm specifically referring to the torta . I had to order it twice to see if it was the same and it was not . Also someone on the counter needs to speak English and Spanish I asked for a blended drink and got it iced . So my review is good and bad I'm just figuring out what to get and not to get at this point . But overall love the new cafe ! read more

FOOD: The food is satisfying. Great portions, seasoned, and cooked well. The menu truly sticks to the Latin flavors from coffee, refreshers, pastries, to plated dishes. There is nothing on the menu that makes me want to drive back for a specific dish however, if I want a place that will make good brunch and will satisfy my craving, its con azucar. There was 4 of us and we each ordered a breakfast dish and coffee, the price was not bad at all. A little over $100 including tip. I got the dulce de leche latte which was way too sweet for me. I am someone who prefers coffee on the sweeter end, and that drink was way too sweet for me. I would recommend cutting out a few pumps if you want it more balanced. The brown sugar shaken espresso was delicious and perfectly well balanced. It almost tasted like a bit of horchata. You can taste the spice of the cinnamon. Highly recommend. SERVICE: Overall the timeliness of receiving food was quick. Within 15-20 minutes of ordering plated food and drinks. The food was nice and hot. Looked very presentable, and it made you hungry. A HUGE downside however, that will keep me from dining in was the lack of dine in experience. It would make sense to receive a number, and be seated at a table by a server, after being asked if we want our items to go or dine in. At Con Azucar that is not the case. The tables are first come first serve once you receive a number. If you choose to order dining in, be prepared to have plates of food be brought to you in your hand because there are no tables available. From what I was seeing, most customers were enjoying their drinks at the tables or waiting for their drinks and not eating. This made it hard for customers who ordered food to dine in. Where are you supposed to eat with your glass ceramic plates in hour hand and no table? We finally managed to snag a table that was meant for 2 and not 4. They brought out the food however we had to inform them to pack it all to go. There was no way to eat any of it. No space, no chairs, no room. It was a big let down as we wanted to enjoy the ambiance. We also had to bag our own food at the end of it. AMBIANCE: I enjoyed the cultural art work, the tile, chairs, and light fixtures. Overall it was a pleasant, bright, fun space. Their menu offered a wide range of selection however it was a bit hard to read as the menu itself was busy for my eyes. I would have appreciated a more clean and simple look. There was a swing and a feature picture wall. I love the idea of a viral picture moment however, they could have added a bunch more seating in replace of that. Also, it would have helped in separating customers who are dining in vs just relaxing and waiting. Would I go there again? YES! To go for pickup. As of right now I would not be dining in, don't feel like fighting for a seat. read more
