We had a motherboard replaced in September to support Windows 11, and Windows was installed at that time. Approximately three months later, in December, the system entered an Automatic Repair loop and would not boot. We spent nearly two months attempting to troubleshoot the issue ourselves using the reset and restore options available within Windows. A December restore point was visible during that process. When we brought the computer back to the shop, we were told that "someone must have deleted system files" and that it would be $100 to reinstall Windows. We were also told it was not possible for the issue to be related in any way to the prior hardware replacement of which a previous call to Microsoft verified it very well could be and months later at that. What concerned me was the immediate attribution of fault without explanation of diagnostic steps. Windows Automatic Repair loops are boot-level failures typically associated with update corruption, driver conflicts, storage issues, or system configuration instability -- not casual deletion of files by an end user. Core operating system files are protected and not easily removed through normal usage. Additionally, concerns were raised about side panel screws suggesting possible tampering, although it was unclear how that would relate to a Windows boot-level error. Given that this was a return visit following extensive and costly hardware work performed by the same shop, I would have expected a broader and more collaborative diagnostic discussion before attributing the issue to customer action. Multiple plausible causes exist for this type of failure, including Windows update corruption and drive health factors, and those possibilities should be evaluated and explained before concluding that files were deleted or that the system was tampered with. It was also not clearly communicated at the time of the original repair how long labor would be covered or what expectations should be if a system-level issue arose months later. With expensive hardware work, clearer explanation of warranty limits, potential update-related risks, and post-install expectations would help customers make informed decisions. Even if the root cause ultimately turned out to be unrelated to the motherboard itself, a transparent diagnostic process and clearer policy communication would have reinforced confidence and likely led to additional service work. Instead, the quick assignment of blame and dismissal of other possibilities affected our confidence in continuing to use their services. We ultimately chose to resolve the matter elsewhere. If you struggle with question of getting a new gaming PC over repairing just buy the new one over going here, you'll be far better off. read more

They took my money and did nothing, they are Incompetent beyond words, they know nothing about computers, or computer repair. Their task was installing new antenna cables in a laptop because of damaged antenna lean ends, they kept the old cables installed, used wrapping paper tape and taped the damaged ends to the motherboard. I brought my HP laptop in for them to look at, they looked at it and let me know that I was like the fifth person in the past couple of weeks thats having the same problem with that model. If I could give it 0 stars I would I brought a PlayStation 5 to this place on September 30, 2024 to have the hmdi in the back replaced. The PlayStation was coming on just wasn't getting a picture. After a month almost 2 months I finally reach out to them to see what taking so long with the repair they just kept giving me the run around. November 13, 2024 I finally just went and just pick it up once I got home did I find the game no longer comes on no blue light all of the usb plugs are not lineup with the system. If they didn't know what they was doing they should have told me. I would've taken my business elsewhere than to bring back a non working ps5. Both of my daughters have bought computers for college here and they are very knowledgeable about all they sale. I also work for a company that uses them. Steven and all the employees are always willing to help with any needs. I have called from work with issues and he will remotely go into my computer and help me fix whatever I have going on. Also he even remembered my girls buying their computers from him and asked how those computers were doing. One bought a computer and the other a mac book. A few weeks ago, I'd finally had it with my PC running so slow and decided to have it checked for viruses and such. I called Computer Upgraders, explained what was happening and asked if they could diagnose the problem. I added that I had important data on it and was assured that the information was safe from being lost. When I dropped it off, I reminded them of the important data, and was told once again that it wasn't a problem and not to worry. A few days after I dropped it off, I got a phone call at about noon in which I was told that my PC was just old and needed replaced. This made sense because I'd had it for eight years. I asked if they sold PC's and was told "yes, we also sell used PC's, but on a cash only basis." When I arrived to pick it up at about 5 that afternoon, I was told to wait a few minutes while they put my PC back together. It seemed a little odd to me that they were just now putting it back together but didn't pay much attention to it. I asked if the data was safe and was told yes. I paid the $35 diagnostic fee and was on my way. When I got it home and reconnected everything, the PC wouldn't even boot. I got an "error" alert on the screen. I called Computer Upgraders and asked about this. I was told that the PC was dying and the hard drive was functioning at only 80% and it would be necessary to return it to find out if my data was retrievable. I was also informed that they charge by the gig when performing data transfers. When I asked if there would be a charge for this return visit I got stonewalled. When I expressed concern over possibly losing all my data, I was told "we'll see what we can do." The PC was just running slow when I dropped it off. Now it was declared dead and completely nonfunctional. If they knew this to be fact, why didn't they tell me when I picked it up? Now, they made it sound as if I'd be lucky if the data could be retrieved at all. Out of curiosity I opened the top of the PC, which I'd done numerous times to blow it out with compressed air. There was a disconnected wire in plain sight. Like I said, I've had it open many times over the years and have never seen this disconnected wire. Whether this was due to incompetence or a deliberate maneuver to generate business, your guess is as good as mine, but after what I'd just seen and heard, I lost all confidence in Computer Upgraders. I like to patronize smaller businesses, but I will not pay good money for substandard work and or underhanded tactics. read more
