I've had a desktop PC for over two years (Dell) and a month ago it wouldn't boot up. I took it to The Computer Barn on the Barre-Montpelier Road for them to fix it up. They have a standard 3-day turnaround time, but the next day they called me saying it was fixed up. It was as good as new and they gave me the part that needed replacing (which they did). I've had three separate transactions with these fellas, and they were all successful. I wholeheartedly recommend The Computer Barn. They do top notch work and their pricing is above board. Ive never done a yelp review but Computer Barn's customer service is horrendous enough where I felt I had to. I went into Computer Barn 2 weeks ago and showed them my laptop that I needed a screen fixed. A simple replacement, maybe 2 hours at most. They told me they would order the part and it would take a few days. I asked them if they wanted my name and number to call me when the part came in and they said no. I could leave my computer there until the part came or don't bother. I told them I couldn't leave my laptop there for the week because I used it for work. I told the guy it was an easy job and I would just drop it off when he had time to work on it. But he never made time for me or cared about my business. I called back a few days later when the part arrived but they didn't remember who I was. Hello! I was in here last week! I asked to schedule an appointment they said they were too busy. If I wanted to leave my laptop there for the week, he would "get to it when he got to it". - direct quote. I brought in my laptop three days later and I was told there was a que. I said 'the que I tried to put my name on twice and you told me I couldn't. That que'? I reminded him that I've already talked to him multiple times about the laptop. He didn't remember me! Maybe its just me, but when a business gets potential customers, they should probably get their info so they could do a followup and try to bring in some more business. Not Computer Barn. I asked him when he would have time to fix it and he said he didn't. Horrible customer service. Actually, thats the worst customer service I've ever received in my life. I really hope business isn't as good as they say it is because they don't deserve it. I wouldn't recommend Computer Barn to my worst enemy. Go to BKs Computing right in Barre. No one should have to beg a company multiple times to do their job. If you're too busy, hire more people: there's a lot of people that need work and clearly, you idiots needs help. read more

I had the same experience here as other reviewers. Been here twice and was waited on by the same guy. He was condescending, projected an air of impatience and disbelif and "knew" things about my personal computer habits that he doesn't know. The staff here is dishonest and rude. I recently took my computer here to resolve and issue with it not booting properly. While they did fix the issue they also installed two invasive programs onto my computer without my consent. One of these programs (Syncro) would regularly force my computer to restart and the other (Splashtop) was some type of remote monitoring software. While I don't believe that these programs were installed with malicious intent I find it disturbing that the staff here sees no issue with installing invasive software without reviving consent from the customer. On top of this they also failed to notify me that they installed these programs after the work had been completed. Finally while I was there the staff was very condescending, dismissive and rude. I'm not often one to leave reviews but my experience here was truly horrendous and I would not recommend computer barn to anyone. read more

Thanks to the friendly and expert service at the Computer Barn, I dodged a bullet! The highly skilled technician made a quick fix that revived my computer that I was sure was toast. It was so quick they were kind enough not to charge me. They warned me that the computer was likely on its way to heaven so I was able to go and make sure I backed everything up. I have purchased PC components from them and built my very own PC that was kick-a--. Cost less that 500,00 dollars. That had XP PRO. They could not fix when I lost internet. So I purchased a new PC through them with windows 8.1. It was for gaming and it was to be a rocket. Very fast and compatible for earlier games. It was not. I could not even load WOW. I took it back and had them fix and make better. ( over a hundred bucks ) and it still would not work. As of a few weeks ago my hard drive started to fail. I took it to ACK in Northfield and he fixed both of my PC's and they run perfect. The one I purchased from the Computer Barn now runs all my app games and older games. I am talking Total Annihilation. Like that is a rush. I won't buy or have mine serviced there again. Don't get me wrong. Good people just don't really know enough to solve tough problems. read more

What a wretched place. I walked in and was greeted immediately- I was hopeful it was going to be a positive experience. I couldn't have been more wrong. The techs and head counter guy were patronizing rude "know it alls" who seemingly believe their customers are all idiots. In less than 15 mins I heard them mimic phone customers, tell a woman HP tech support was stupid, and put down Apple products. As a long standing Small Dog customer I can say these clowns could learn a lot about customer support. I only wish small dog could fix my PC. What a colossal disappointment. Never again... read more

I was in the market for a new computer and tried this place since it was nearby. I was shocked at the very poor components they were trying to pass off as good quality. They had a machine they were advertising as a gaming computer, selling it for $700 with no peripherals, but the parts they had put in it were worth $300 at most. Dual core processor, and a Radeon 5450 video card which is a very basic card worth about 30 bucks! It might have been appropriate for office use, but certainly not for gaming. I asked an employee about it and he pointed me to another machine they were selling for $850 which he compared to a "ferrari" but was only slightly better than the other one. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, it was like a bad stereotype of a used car huckster trying to sell me a lemon. I don't know if this business is actually trying to rip people off or if they simply don't know what they're selling, but either way this is a place to avoid. And a sobering reminder that if you're not computer savvy, bring a geeky friend with you to do your computer shopping, because you can't always trust places like this. read more

Needed to get a new charger for my MacBook Pro. We called and asked if they had the usbc charger and they did, so I drove down to get it. When I showed up, I was surprised by the what the inside of the store looked like, but they were friendly and wanted to help. However, when I saw the price of the charger I was a bit confused. I have had to buy this charger in the past and it was about $100 and I was this one was about $80. The charger was also branded with the Apple logo like it should be, but did not come in an Apple packaging, just a clear plastic container and was wrapped with foreign writing on it. Despite this, I was desperate so I got it anyways. I went to go charge my laptop and it worked, but I was suspicious again when I saw that the cord did not fully plug into my laptop of the charger cube. I then tried to move my charger from the spot it was in and when I took It out of the outlet, the part with the prongs came off!!!!!!! I then looked more closely and saw that it was not made the same as the actual Apple product. With my real charger, the prongs are supposed to come off and slide back on. When this happened, there were a bunch of tiny pieces that came out and was just metal underneath and couldn't be put back together. Don't think I can trust buying these types of products here again!!! Super sketchy!!! read more

I admit that I am not computer savvy and that I am very sensitive to being gouged and that of late I have encountered as an 80 year old widow some most distressing efforts to exploit my vulnerable state in these regards, but I feel it incumbent on me to write this review if only to give an opposing opinion to the disappointed man named Eric who felt otherwise about The Computer Barn. I found Computer Barn personnel to be extremely forthright, cordial, fair, empathetic, patient and almost suspiciously without regard for their own profit in dealing with me and my chronic computer problems. I have an inexpensive Acer, bought at The Computer Barn. When I bought it Computer Barn staff explained in detail the differences between the $300.00, $400.00, and up to $800.00 laptops (my price range.) No effort was made to convince me to buy the more expensive equipment. When I bought the inexpensive model Computer Barn people spent many uncomplaining hours with me on the phone and during the conversion of my old files onto the new one. Their bill was approximately a quarter of what my neighborhood Boston bill would have been, and there was no charge for several subsequent visits seeking answers to technological questions. I need a company I can trust NOT to rip me off, so, let me say that the issues, which the author of the criticism in question seemed unsure about what were, cannot exist at Computer Barn simply because the personality characteristics necessary for such behavior do not exist there. Of the four staff members and several students I have encountered at Computer Barn over many many years (a small business does not stay in business unless it is well regarded )all have been enthusiastic about instructing me, caring that I understand their instructions and unhurried in their delivery. Integrity in all areas is what I seek in my interactions with any business and it seems more and more lacking as impersonal encounters and greed pervade the economic "progress" of our species. "Savvyness" is, of course, the other necessary component to selling computers and Joe and his wonderful colleagues at Computer Barn embrace both integrity and professional skill. I have used the computer Barn numerous times and have always been EXTREMELY happy with all aspects of the experience. I have used them to purge computers of malware, spyware and viruses. I just used them to add memory to my wife's laptop(they could not add memory to my wife), and transfer data and hardware between two aging desktops so I could squeeze out another year or so of use of one of the boxes. This also involved transferring license for quick books and they did this all for a very reasonable price. When it comes time for me to replace my computer I will not go to a big box store or buy on line, I will have them make one to my specific requirements with parts that can be maintained and upgraded in the future without costing me an arm and a leg. Horrible customer service. I have never been in a store and treated like this. I went in to get my screen repaired and the guy behind the counter insulted my "old" phone (not that old less than 2 years), made rude noises and made me feel like an idiot for not knowing the back pops off. I just wanted my phone fixed but he proceeded to look up used phones and told me I was better off getting one of those instead. I knew I could get a used one cheap but I had just wanted mine fixed (I didn't want to mess around with changing sim card and whatnot-I wanted a professional to just replace my screen). I go to places like this because I know they know more about them than me.I expect them to. I don't go to be made fun of and to feel like trash and spoken to like I am a complete idiot. I had just gotten off a long night shift and didn't deserve to be treated like this. I walked out with my head down like they just didn't want my patronage and wasted their time.
