I was last in there about a week ago and was treated royally by the young woman at the register who took me to another staff person who knew where to find another alternative to what I sought. You won't just be pointed towards 'Aisle 4', they'll escort you there All this is a great credit to the management/ownership who obviously 'GET IT'. I am a single woman living by myself and take pride in trying to problem solve my household issues by myself. Nelson Hardware personnel go beyond being helpful. One example, trying to fix a toilet handle, they spent time with me and sold me the exact fix I needed. Another hardware store in town couldn't put down their coffee and even offer to help. My outside water faucet wouldn't turn on this spring. Once again I headed to Nelson's and got the exact info and fix I needed. The staff here is AMAZING. They are always willing to go out of their way to help or find someone who can help you. I have actually had the staff on several occasions leave the store to help me! ALL of the staff is friendly and great. The only drawback to the store is some of the pricing is insane. So, I try to buy small stuff there, but for example I bought a fluorescent bulb at Walmart yesterday for $8.50, Ace was $19 for the same bulb! I can't justify the price gouging, but its a really nice place to shop otherwise. read more

The customer service aspect of this place far outweighs any other hardware or department store. That is why I don't mind spending more money to shop here. For most items I purchase, the price is not that much higher. Another thing to mention is that their paint department staff is also extremely helpful and will go out of their way to make samples of stains or colors so you are confident about what you are selecting. I went to Benjamin Moore at Aubuchons and bought a stain for my deck and when I got home it was a light pink instead of a light cedar color. Yuick. I went to Ace and the girl there was very knowledgeable and helped me pick a deck stain that I absolutely love (honey gold). It was also $15 a can CHEAPER than Benjamin Moore. I am now doing a bigger paint job on my house and will only go to Nelsons Ace. read more

We just bought a house near Worcester and went to Nelson Ace with a really long list. We soon had three staff helping, finding housewares, lawn and garden stuff, cutting carpet strips, changing a watch battery. They knew instantly where to find things in the cavernous store. The experience was great, the selection good and prices down to earth. Kudos to the staff. That's my hardware store from now on. 5 stars. read more
