Not knowing any better, I made an appointment with the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy, who qouted me $500-$2000 for an "advanced repair ATTEMPT"?!?!!? Distraught, I came to Altex and was quickly greeted by Matt and the store manager Jacob Wiese. Explaining my problem, they offered to attempt repair for a nominal charge- how reassuring! Jacob broke down the concepts of disc drives and solid state drives into terms I could understand [thank you!] - so I immediately purchased a new portable solid state drive. I left my "broken" hard drive with them- feeling much more confident in their skills. Within 2 days they called to inform me they were able to access the data and transfer it to the new SSD! While I am impressed with their technical expertise, I am MORE grateful for their kind, patient, customer-friendly demeanor- helping those of us who are novices and helplessly lost.
