They got my prescription wrong, and I only realized after a few months! I went there with a doctor's prescription, I got my glasses and I did not realize for some time, then I started getting headaches and blurry vision, ended up going to an eye doctor and the prescription was all wrong. I am a busy person, so it took me months to realize the mistake. In addition to that, the lenses are not good quality, they are scratched after a few months (and I have worn glasses all my life, so I know they should not be). I cannot say anything about their appointments, because I did not use that service. I will not go there ever again. read more

I have been a customer of Compton Eye Associates for a while but unfortunately, they have forced me to find another optometrist. I recently had an eye appointment and decided to get new glasses. The glasses they offer at Compton are way overpriced and pretty tacky looking. I found glasses I liked online that were in my budget but they needed the PD number to complete the purchase so I called Compton to get that number and the woman on the phone (I won't mention her name) refused to give me that information. Mind you this is information from an eye exam I recently did that I paid for. I can't believe Compton refuses to give their customers vital eye exam information all for a few extra bucks because they want you to buy their ridiculously overpriced glasses. My review is based on about three years of experience, two adults, one young adult. For a bit of background, we have ample health insurance and a wonderful HSA. We tend to stay in the city for most of our appointments due to the children's school and activities and work. I really wanted to find an eye doc that was closer to home with parking. After looking at ZocDoc and comparing the reviews to Yelp, I found Dr. Compton. I made appointments for myself first and then after, made appointments for my husband and daughter in the ensuing years. THE GOOD. Decent location with metered parking. The office is beautiful, wonderful art, state of the art equipment, Dr. Compton is knowledgeable and is extremely professional. He does an excellent job of explaining everything and all. We all felt very comfortable with him. He was neither patronizing or condescending but thoughtful, well mannered and congenial. Excellent. THE BAD. The choices for eye wear is not extensive. I would have preferred more choices. I do not wear contacts but several pairs glasses because I have to have choices :) THE UGLY. The staff. Ugh. The staff. I will explain three incidents which made me decide never to return. FIRST VISIT I entered and was greeted by a gentleman a the front desk. He was condescending and rude. I am unflappable and always polite. I ignored the snub. As I waited for the doctor I went to look at choices. I needed to see what was being offered. I saw a few pairs on Warby and wanted to compare. I've worn glasses since 12 and am now 47. It's a woman's prerogative to change things up. The glasses were chained down. One was not. I wasn't expecting that. It fell. I alerted the person who handled the co-pays etc. She behaved as if I were stealing the glasses....as I stood there waiting to be seen by the doctor. Very exaggerated mannerisms and she yelled at another person to anchor the glasses and then followed me. I am not a sensitive person. I ignored that all, decided against the glasses and saw the doc. SECOND VISIT Went against my gut and made an appt for my husband the following year. Same woman and man at front desk, same rudeness, and spoke about us in Spanish because they assumed we would not understand. Just no. We saw another doctor before Dr. Compton, she was sweet, wonderful and somewhere from the Midwest. Saw Dr. Compton. They were both GREAT. Spoke to the front desk about having someone call me so that I might order glasses. The gentlemen at the front, continued to talk about me to the person next to him, in Spanish while cutting his eye etc. I ignored all this, lots of please and thank you's (my husband hates when I do this....thinks I am too nice and will be taken advantage of). Never received a phone call at all. After 30 days I called. They said they have been calling me. They read me my husbands phone number. He received no calls. Also, my husband's number is not the call back number so how is it that they were calling them? I went elsewhere for new glasses. THIRD VISIT Heavens why did I return for a third time? Because my daughter was 17, graduating and wanted contacts for prom. I like Dr. Compton a lot and I wanted things to be done right. I trust him. Daughter is happy, excited. Has worn glasses since she was 7. It took over 45 min for the person who is to help with the fitting to explain properly how to put the contacts in. My daughter is super sweet, very apologetic. The person has super long nails, was patient for 15 min and then was just not. I was aggravated, explained that it would take as long as it needed to be done got in the car because you guessed it, the two people at the front desk were back at it again. I made sure that they were aware that contacts were covered, I paid for what was needed to be paid for out of pocket before I left. My daughter called me from inside the store. Seems the people at the front desk were haranguing her for cash for the contacts and she was in distress and on the verge of tears. We came in together, you saw us together, I confirmed as the adult that was in charge of the financial portion and paid for what needed to be paid for. Why would you do this? It was humiliating for her. I told her to leave EVERYTHING, went in to the store and asked about my insurance coverage etc. I walked in and the woman at the front desk proceeds to say she needs to look up information etc. as if she has NEVER seen me before. I explained that it was already and she already rang me up. She responds with a smirk on her face with some nonsensical response. And that was that. I dreaded writing this review because I knew it would be long and upset me. I will not ever return due to staff. Companies, retailers will always lose clients because of the staff they employ. I speak with my wallet and I will never pay for someone to devalue me as a human being. read more

Highly recommend. I went here because my favorite pair of sunglasses had gotten bent. They straightened my glasses, tightened the screws and cleaned the lenses. And then when I went to pay -- they told me it was free! I couldn't believe it. Everyone who works there was attentive and friendly, and the store is professional and approachable. Just giving an updated review... Recently went for my two year exam and this office is SIMPLY WONDERFUL! Doctor Cruz administered the exam and helped me find the best prescription for my contacts (which is a process cause I have astigmatism and different prescriptions in each eye. She helped me with an abundance of patience!! Jeanine helped me pick out a trendy new pair of spectacles and educated me about "Blue Blocking" being offered on the lens I use in my frames. So pleased to have this option for my glasses considering I use a computer screen for almost 10 hours a day. I left the office that day, more knowledgeable and with a better understanding how to care for my "tired eyes." Received a call from the office in 5 days that my glasses and contacts were ready for pickup!!! read more

Rest assured, the five star reviews for this optometrist are warranted. Came here because I was due for an eye exam as well as some new glasses. My insurance covered me for one pair, and I also bought another pair of designer frames separately on Amazon. As soon as I walked in, it almost felt like I was on 5th Avenue or something. The place just exudes style and professionalism. I was graciously greeted by the staff in the front. They accept various insurances, and there's a wide variety of frames that are covered. I then met Dr. Compton whom gave me my eye exam, and was very knowledgable and helpful throughout the process. When it came time to purchase frames, I didn't feel pressured to pay for add-ons like Crizal, etc....Unlike other optical places I've been to here in Inwood, I felt exceedingly comfortable at this place. On top of everything, they put lenses into the frames I bought outside their shop, and let me use their $75 for $100 Yelp deal to pay for them. I got my eyes examined here for the first time in 2020 and instantly knew this was going to be my permanent optometrist. It was during Covid and the office was constantly being disinfected and cleaned. My examination was thorough and on time. My glasses came in with no issues. Fast forward to today as I took my 6 year old here for his first ever eye examination. I wanted to ensure that his eyes were good after a year plus of zoom calls an increased reading. The office was still as clean as ever and what I thought was going to be a routine quick examination turned out to be a much longer process - this is because not only were Dr. Grace and Dr. Rivkin extremely patient and at ease with my son, but the examination was so in depth and thorough that I am so grateful that I took him here. I don't think anywhere else could have given him the level of service and care that he got today. The Drs and the Specialty Products Coordinator, Natasha, answered all of my questions and made it such a great experience for both of us - him as the newbie and me as the anxious mom finding out what aspects of his vision needed to be corrected and also learning the impact on other areas of his development. Wow! The office ambiance is extremely welcoming and very aesthetically pleasing. The waiting room has tons of magazines and mini-waters so you can be comfortable while you wait. The staff is extremely courteous. I made an appointment to see Dr. Compton via ZocDoc which is extremely easy. The office assistants and optometrist assistants are knowledgeable and friendly. I came here for a vision test for a drivers license renewal. I scheduled an appointment online the previous night but did not receive a confirmation due to scheduling the appointment past their operating hours. I showed up at my appointment time the following morning and after filling out a short form, I was seen immediately. The service here was fantastic. Every person I came across was very nice. Ok so background: I'm blind as a bat. Literally can't go out without contacts. I was surprised to get an appointment on a Sunday- so accommodating! But seriously it was such an awesome experience. So it's nestled across he street from the park next to tonnies cupcakes. I walk in was greeted by the doctor and staff. Got there about 15 mins early because I needed to fill out paperwork and they even take a pic of you for your file (definitely looked like I rolled out of bed). So I do all the necessary paperwork and the girl told me about the new option to check your eyes instead of dialatipn: costs 39.00 BUT SO WORTH IT. Best decision I've made in my life because you don't walk out blinded like a vampire. Then did he usual checks of vision and then the doctor came in for my assessment and to go over things. The great thing was that he was very attentive to family history and knowledgable about it all. The better part was that he actually educates you without the medical jargon and really breaks down your eye to you. After a few questions we were able to go through what I needed - contacts obviously- and next steps. The doctor is super thorough and really nice. The place is new and clean and the eyeglass selection is actually pretty nice from what I saw. And I left with trial pairs so I was happy. Had a great experience here. The front desk staff and doctor were super helpful and friendly. They have really advanced equipment that make you feel like you're getting the best treatment. I tried a new brand of contacts and ordered a year supply but after a few days I realized they weren't for me and with a quick call they were able to cancel that order and place a new order of my old brand. They processed the new order, gave me a refund of the difference and even a few trial pairs to last me until the order came in. Couldn't have asked for a more seamless and helpful experience. I walked in today to see if they took my insurance (NYSHIP). I'm relatively new to it, and it's really confusing at times to know who is covered and who isn't. I went in, and she took down my information and said she would call to double check for me. She even asked what my co-pay was and what was covered on my specific plan. After gathering that information, they said that the doctor could actually squeeze me in if I wanted to see him today. Then, EVERYONE (Dr. Compton, included) worked really hard to make sure I was paying as little out of pocket as humanly possible because I needed contacts and new glasses. They were absolutely amazing. I swear she ran the numbers like ten, twenty times to ensure I was getting the best possible deal (my insurance doesn't cover contact lense fittings). Everyone was constantly nice, and they went out of their way to accomadate me. I'm leaving town Tuesday (December 22), and I asked if there was any chance that I could get my glasses by then. I was willing to pay any rushing fees it would take. They said they would get it out to the company they had to go through for my insurance, and they would make sure it would be back in time for me to have it before I leave. Honestly, I am SO impressed by them. I messaged my roommate who needed to get his glasses fixed for a while now, and he dropped them by on his way home. They told them they would fix it for free even though he wasn't a previous patient and didn't buy the glasses there. On top of the WONDERFUL staff, the facility itself is extremely clean. There's a lot of white, which shows dust and dirt easily, and I couldn't see a single thing. I grew up with a dad whose job it is to walk through hospitals and spot every ounce of dirt, so I have a habit of doing the same thing when I walk into medical type facilities. There's was immaculate. I plan on moving from the neighborhood within the next year, but I'll probably travel all the way back up here just to see Dr. Compton again. Let me explain, after I had my eye examined the lady that shows me the glasses pretty much looked at my insurance and told me your insurance covers those rite there but I can show you others. Basically, she's too good to show me cheap glasses. I went along with the higher price point one and I saw a pair I would buy. This is the first time I would have worn glasses so I wanted to make sure before I spent $400. She proceeds to tell me I can lower it for you for $350 I'm like can I come back she goes and tells me well I normally don't sell glasses so my prices may not be the same as the other person. In truly spectacular news: they do a glaucoma test that doesn't involve dilation (in the grand tradition of glaucoma tests, it does cost extra), which is a huge plus for me. My Wife went for an examination and this is what happened. first. the doctor exam went well. second. when she's ready to make a payment they charged and extra $14.00 dollars surcharged because she paid with a credit-card. third. She went to pick up the eyeglass, at the time she was ready to pay they want to charge her a $7.00 extra fee using her debit bank card. fourth. they pass her the eyeglass just as a piece of bread. they didn't ask her to try-on to verify if the prescription was up to according to the examination.
